We unfortanely had a bad experience happen to our family, Goodfellas Construction (Danny Gold) removed 2100 square feet of acoustic ceiling for our home renovation project last Sept 2014. He said our 1970 home did not need to be tested for asbestos, which was not correct. His company did a horrible job removing the acoustic ceiling and got it all over our carpet, furniture, etc. Thanks to Jonathan Massey, he came out the next day after we discovered we may have been exposed to asbestos and did a thorough review of our home to test it for asbestos. He had the tests result as promised in 24-48 hours depending on test. Our home tested with high levels of asbestos, he quickly put together a procedure 5 report for us, due to the urgency to have remediation completed bc of the exposure to my family. He was extremely knowledgeable, works around the clock and assisted me in filing a complaint with AQMD and CALOSHA to stop Goodfellas from hopefully ever doing this to another family again. Dusty who did the inspection pre and post, was very professional and knowledgeable. I would recommend them to others. My advice to anyone doing home renovations, get it done right the first time and test your home, it is so much more expensive to clean up the mess. Goodfellas left us with large bill (over $70k for the abatement & replacement costs) and currently fighting us denying ANY responsibility to their unethical and illegal practice. Quick and efficient! I hired JLM to test a "popcorn" ceiling for asbestos while I was in escrow. They came on a Saturday, and I had the results by Monday afternoon, which was actually ahead of schedule. Yes, they do charge per sample. I thought they were pretty efficient with this, though. Very professional and prompt service. I may have asbestos in my ducts and called JLM to come out to run some tests. They were prompt and I was able to get them this afternoon. Jon, the owner came out and took a very thorough look at my HVAC system and vents and gave me a very detailed explanation of things. He then explained that he would be taking some samples including an air sample to confirm whether or not I had asbestos. This is later in the day friday and despite being after hours, Steve took the time to finish the air test for me to give me some piece of mind before the weekend. Thats what I call service! I am currently in mold he** and have had to speak to many mold inspectors/remediators. My apartment building management ended up paying for the testing, so they used their own local mold inspector (who I do not recommend), but I spoke to JLM twice for advice and they were wonderful. JLM was prompt and friendly and sent a report quickly. What I find strange is that the person who took samples didn't wear a mask or any kind of protective gear when scraping asbestos samples off of my ceilings and didn't even suggest that I leave the room while he did so. I'm not sure what the law is but if asbestos is such a dangerous thing I find it odd that experts wouldn't take precautions when dealing with the stuff. Also, although they do not do the removal themselves per regulation, they are apparently affiliated with another company, HI-Tech Environmental, that does do removal because after JLM did the inspection I received an unsolicited bid from Hi-Tech Environmental so it appears that somebody is getting a kickback. read more
