Okay service Haddock chowder was more like potato soup way too many potatoes very little haddock and thin flavor was decent. Seafood platter was pretty terrible haddock was either frozen or old calamari was hard to find inside the breading same with the shrimp way to thick of a breading. Jodie's is a gem in Wiscasset! From the food to the service to the view of the water (and people-watching all the folks in line across the street), this place ticks all the boxes. So even though this seems like a classic breakfast and lunch spot, they are open til 8pm so we were able to stop in for dinner while bypassing the rush hour traffic. So glad we did! The friendly host gave us a great seat by the window and our server was wonderful - quick and very accommodating with our modifications. Great beer and wine list too. My daughter's butter pasta was a big bowl of nice, buttery fettuccine that she devoured. The club sandwich is a tasty classic, served with house-made potato chips that are super crispy and addicting. My favorite bite, though, was my black and bleu burger. I'm a sucker for this particular type of burger and this rendition was one of my favorites - big juicy patty, plenty of funky bleu cheese, super fresh veg, and a homemade roll that held up nicely to all the deliciousness. The side salad was LOADED with veggies (just how I like it!) and the raspberry vinaigrette was so good, I could drink it. We took home a homemade lemon cookie with cream cheese frosting that was flipping outstanding. At the end of it all, I was super happy with how reasonably priced everything was, especially for the quality and portion. Jodie's is a true gem! We happened upon it during a recent vacation, tired and hungry after a day exploring the area. It's a very casual, unassuming place but don't let that fool you. We sat by the window and enjoyed the wonderful river view, and then the food came. Just wow! The fried green tomatoes were piping hot, crunchy and so delicious. No crumbs left! My husband ordered the fried shrimp -- they were huge, fresh, hot and perfectly crispy. Yummy potato wedges too and cole slaw which we have many opinions about. Their version was really tasty! I had the southern fried chicken with white gravy and it was savory and satisfying. What really got me was the "vegetable of the day" -- most places have soggy corn or something but not Jodie's. It was fresh green beans, a very welcome addition to the plate. They were cooked perfectly and super fresh! We were too full to have dessert, but the bakery case was full of yummy looking treats. Jodie's is a bargain to boot. If we lived nearby it would be on our regular restaurant rotation. We will be back on our next trip for sure! read more

I was at Sarah's Cafe a couple months ago. I didn't want to stay as it seemed "off" ... they tried to seat us in the dark, dank "bar side" of the restaurant and chairs were up in the table, etc. It's a gross area of the restaurant and has been for years. We were happy to sit at several tables on the regular side (outdoor patio is small and was full) Since I was with a large group, six of us left and went to Water Street Kitchen and Bar. (It was wonderful!!) I don't know when Sarah's closed, but I think it is a good thing. Even though I've had great service and good food there over the years, ... it needed a change. I don't know if ownership has changed, or what, but I'm looking forward to what could improve! I'll update my review when I check out the new business, after it opens. Cheers! read more

This place definitely has potential! But it's still missing some important details. We got the fish and chips and the shrimp and grits, with sweet tea. The shrimp and grits were the standout! Absolutely delicious, with bacon, and definitely worth getting again! The tea had a nice but not overpowering sweetness, but was very lightly brewed (or not made with strong tea leaves). The haddock was flavorful and nicely fried. The fries were also nice and crisp. But they brought the haddock, fries, and tarter sauce out each in separate trips, rather than wait for them to all be ready together. It was also supposed to come with coleslaw but they said they were out and didn't offer anything different to replace it. We also got a few cupcakes to go. The chocolate one was sunken in the middle, which had been filled with frosting. It tasted more like baking powder than chocolate and it fell apart. The vanilla one was denser and had a nice vanilla flavor, but was kind of dry and had a similar texture to a corn muffin. The staff was friendly and the place looked nice on the inside! It definitely shows that this place is new, but if they're able to make some slight adjustments, it could be a great addition to the area. read more

Well, apparently they're doing so awfully well that they didn't need my money. I was looking for a nice place to sit down and have lunch by myself as my husband and father had headed to Boothbay and thought I would check out this place as I liked the looks of the menu. But I was informed that I could not sit on the deck that I had to sit at a little two top inside because the deck tables were reserved for parties of two or more. There wasn't a line of people waiting to come in and I wouldn't have camped there all afternoon. I just wanted to have some lunch, a cup of coffee and possibly take a dessert home with me. But apparently my money isn't any good because I was told twice that I could not sit on the deck so I took my business elsewhere. Not very forward thinking of them in my opinion. I'm from Maine and I've been in the restaurant business so I get it but now I'm leaving this yelp review and I don't know if I'll ever go back because they couldn't think outside the box. read more

Food was good the biscuits were a tad dry and gravy a little thick but I'm from the Midwest so kind of a biscuit and gravy snob...lol potatoes where great but for my taste I like them just a tad crispier but that's just my taste but the flavor was fantastic anyway!! Our first visit since the restaurant became Jodie's and we will definitely be back! My husband ordered the locally made coffee and what a great big mug and very good. Nice start to a filling and delicious meal. My husband got the chicken bacon ranch wrap. It was huge and filled with everything delicious--fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon--all fresh and served with a pile of house made potato chips which were crispy and delicious. I got a grilled chicken sandwich on a soft and delicious roll with lettuce, tomato, avocado, pickled onion, tiny slightly spicy peppers and chipotle mayo. So, so good! It came with a good portion of potato wedges nicely crispy on the outside and soft inside. 2 good sized sandwiches and one coffee was $30 before tip and tax. We thought it was a good value when considering most restaurant prices these days, plus we brought home half of the wrap and half of both of our potatoes. So much food we couldn't finish it all! The service was very good with 2 different servers bringing our food and drinks and stopping to chat and answer our questions. We hope Jodie's does well. Try it soon! read more

We enjoyed Jodie's Cafe. The scrambled eggs were delicious. Blueberry pancakes were good. Didn't have that sweet sweet vanilla taste that gets tiring. Mgr clearly takes pride in their operation. We were in Wiscasset to bring some visiting family to get their "lobstah roll" fix at world-famous Red's. (The wait at 12-noon, when we got there, was over 1 1/2-hours! YIKES!!!) Anyhow, being plant-based, lobster rolls weren't gonna do it for us, so I pulled out my Yelp! app to find something for us nearby. Jodie's Cafe and Bakery popped-up -- which just so happened was right across the street from Red's -- so we moseyed on over to it. It's in a very large building; a cavernous, almost empty-like space. For ordering, I went with the vegan burger to-go; Jay ordered a vegan wrap of some kind. (The wait was WAY shorter than Red's!! In fact, as we walked to an outdoor picnic spot, our guests had barely moved halfway up the line!!!) Unfortunately, as I should've known better having had this happen on a number of "burger" occasions, my vegan burger was smushy and didn't hold to biting-down at all! Everything simply squished out of the bun! It was NOT a pleasant meal, which I couldn't finish.... (Onion rings were greasy but good.) (The "Bakery" side of Jodie's was very sparse, and (to be honest) I didn't deem it picture-worthy; and, too, there was nothing plant-based, naturally.) Bottomline is that I tried Jodie's and was able to review it from my POV. Went here for the 1st time since it changed to Jodie's. Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly impressed. We went in thinking it was just a brunch type menu options but they have a full dinner menu. We had fried cheese curds, fish and chips, cowboy burger, and the special of the night which was an apple cider pork chop. Everything was delicious and very good portions. We will definitely go back. Came here for a party of two for Sunday brunch and were sat around 12 pm. It took a while for the server to come get our drink order but when she did she was fine. I ordered a mimosa and we both got waters. It took around 15 minutes for us to receive them. We placed our food order at the same time and waited around an hour for anything to come out. The tables around us were also waiting for a long while. While I understand that things happen and a wait is to be expected, the server did not communicate that there was a long wait or when we could expect our food to come out. In fact, she did not come check in with us once after she brought our drinks, we had to call her over and ask the estimated time. She said it would be five more minutes when it took at least double that. There was no acknowledgment or apologies for the wait. When our food arrived it was decent. I ordered a corned beef hash plate, and the corned beef hash was quite tasty. My mom ordered the eggs Benedict which came served on toast and without hollandaise sauce. It's not eggs Benedict without hollandaise. When we paid the bill, there was no acknowledgment of the unreasonable wait and no attempt to ensure our satisfaction as patrons. It seemed like there was no one running the show or someone was doing a poor job of it. Save yourself an hour or two and go elsewhere for breakfast or lunch. read more

I was passing through and popped in for a dinner alone. It was a Friday night and not very busy at 6:45. I was seated across from the kitchen and I asked if I could have one of the lovely window booths. There were 5 empty window tables. I was told no. When I asked why, the host responded: "I would like to, but my boss would get mad at me". And I said, "why? because I"m alone?". He shrugged and said something indiscernible and walked away. Despite feeling disrespected, I ordered Shrimp & grits. They came back and told me they were out of grits so I ordered the Fish Stew. The fish stew was generous but unremarkable. They took 2 bucks off the bill because I didn't get what I wanted, which I guess was nice. They probably should have taken $4 off since that would have been the cost of the shrimp and grits. Best brunch food in Maine! I love the egg, home fries, biscuits and gravy dish for a nice big breakfast. My little one is starting to eat solid foods and he devoured the grits!
