Still great! They have great southern focused cooking, their bakery items are absolutely awesome!

    No longer Sarah's ...
    Laura R.

I was at Sarah's Cafe a couple months ago. I didn't want to stay as it seemed "off" ... they tried to seat us in the dark, dank "bar side" of the restaurant and chairs were up in the table, etc. It's a gross area of the restaurant and has been for years. We were happy to sit at several tables on the regular side (outdoor patio is small and was full) Since I was with a large group, six of us left and went to Water Street Kitchen and Bar. (It was wonderful!!) I don't know when Sarah's closed, but I think it is a good thing. Even though I've had great service and good food there over the years, ... it needed a change. I don't know if ownership has changed, or what, but I'm looking forward to what could improve! I'll update my review when I check out the new business, after it opens. Cheers!

Eggs Benedict was amazing!! Sausage Gravy and biscuits was the best we have ever had! Hubby loved the grits! He hasn't had any good ones since the last time we visited the south until today! The staff was nice and the owner even came out to make sure we enjoyed everything! Worth the 40 minute ride 100%!!! We WILL be back!!!

Fish and chips, shrimp and grits, the vinegar also still had the plastic on it so we had to get out our mini scissors

This place definitely has potential! But it's still missing some important details. We got the fish and chips and the shrimp and grits, with sweet tea. The shrimp and grits were the standout! Absolutely delicious, with bacon, and definitely worth getting again! The tea had a nice but not overpowering sweetness, but was very lightly brewed (or not made with strong tea leaves). The haddock was flavorful and nicely fried. The fries were also nice and crisp. But they brought the haddock, fries, and tarter sauce out each in separate trips, rather than wait for them to all be ready together. It was also supposed to come with coleslaw but they said they were out and didn't offer anything different to replace it. We also got a few cupcakes to go. The chocolate one was sunken in the middle, which had been filled with frosting. It tasted more like baking powder than chocolate and it fell apart. The vanilla one was denser and had a nice vanilla flavor, but was kind of dry and had a similar texture to a corn muffin. The staff was friendly and the place looked nice on the inside! It definitely shows that this place is new, but if they're able to make some slight adjustments, it could be a great addition to the area.

Service was great place is nice and clean and quiet. Food was good the biscuits were a tad dry and gravy a little thick but I'm from the Midwest so kind of a biscuit and gravy snob...lol potatoes where great but for my taste I like them just a tad crispier but that's just my taste but the flavor was fantastic anyway!! The wife's hash was not what she expected but great anyway!! Will definitely keep it on my go to places for breakfast!!

We enjoyed Jodie's Cafe. The scrambled eggs were delicious. Blueberry pancakes were good. Didn't have that sweet sweet vanilla taste that gets tiring. Mgr clearly takes pride in their operation. Place smelled clean which is hard to do with carpet. Nice white tablecloths. Service was attentive- just a good place to stop and eat. Cute downtown area.

Vegan burger was VERY squishy. Onion rings were very oily, but still good.

We were in Wiscasset to bring some visiting family to get their "lobstah roll" fix at world-famous Red's. (The wait at 12-noon, when we got there, was over 1 1/2-hours! YIKES!!!) Anyhow, being plant-based, lobster rolls weren't gonna do it for us, so I pulled out my Yelp! app to find something for us nearby. Jodie's Cafe and Bakery popped-up -- which just so happened was right across the street from Red's -- so we moseyed on over to it. It's in a very large building; a cavernous, almost empty-like space. For ordering, I went with the vegan burger to-go; Jay ordered a vegan wrap of some kind. (The wait was WAY shorter than Red's!! In fact, as we walked to an outdoor picnic spot, our guests had barely moved halfway up the line!!!) Unfortunately, as I should've known better having had this happen on a number of "burger" occasions, my vegan burger was smushy and didn't hold to biting-down at all! Everything simply squished out of the bun! It was NOT a pleasant meal, which I couldn't finish.... (Onion rings were greasy but good.) (The "Bakery" side of Jodie's was very sparse, and (to be honest) I didn't deem it picture-worthy; and, too, there was nothing plant-based, naturally.) Bottomline is that I tried Jodie's and was able to review it from my POV. [Epilog: I wasn't expecting much for vegan options in this town, so I can't complain much; and, too, as it turned out, Red's had two vegan options that we didn't know about...!] ;)

Breakfast was ok nothing to write home about. The pastry look really good. Eggs was cooked perfect. I will try them again and order something else

Just moved locations, still great food. The chef took our advice to add grit fritters to the menu, can't wait to try them.

Excellent food and service. Home made potato chips were great! Service was quick and home made bread made the sandwiches even better.

It was close to 7:00 so we asked if we could get food up on the deck and were told yes but there was limited seating. We found seats, the view was beautiful so we planned to get dinner. There was not nearly enough staff but we eventually got drinks. It seemed like no one wanted to take our food order. My husband was finally able to ask a waiter to take our order and we got a rude reply that people with reservations came first. He came back after awhile and told us that we would get better service if we went downstairs to the dining room. He did take our order but made it obvious that he didn't want to. At 9:15 my husband asked him about our food and told him we had been waiting a long time. The waiter was so nasty and told us that he could just cancel our order. He was unwilling to even check to see if our food was coming out soon. He told us that if he did the kitchen would tell him that it would be ready when it was ready. After 45 years in the food industry I recognize that restaurants in Maine get busy in the summer time and I know that it is hard to find help but there is no reason for the rudeness. Don't allow patrons into your restaurant if you are unwilling or unable to wait on them. Yes, it was a holiday, yes it was busy. But don't open your doors if you can't handle a packed restaurant.

As soon as we walked in, i knew it would be great as you can see them working in the kitchen. I always think that shows how good the food will be if you can see them work. The food was fantastic, the donut was insane!! All of it was so tasty I can't wait to start driving up and taking everyone I know. I know I will love it through the seasons too! Everything is so fresh. The space is small but quaint so I would recommend getting a reservation! They do have a sweet bar you can sit at and look into the kitchen too. I loved the market, you can actually go and grab something to drink in there and have it for your table. The market also has quality cooking ingredients you can buy and cute nic nacs too!

I think the space is very cozy, with an open kitchen and wood tables and bar. The cute little market in back is wonderful to check out before or after your meal. The staff is absolutely wonderful. So kind and making recommendations along with answering any questions you have. I think for the price of food you are really getting a great deal. Everything is made fresh in house from scratch which you can watch when you sit at the bar which i did. Watching orange juice wbu freshly squeezed and the donuts being put together from absolute scratch. The burger is definitely a great choice, I couldn't get over the house cut fries and the alna sauce was wonderful to dip them in. The burger was juicy and delicious and paired perfectly with the Volcanique red they had on the menu. My mother ordered the grits and eggs, this dish was cooked perfectly and had a house made salsa verde. The side of sourdough is a must get for shareable side. The house made jam was spectacular - they make every sauce and dip and spread in house and you can really tell. It elevates the meal so much. The drinks were a bit overpriced in my opinion but as someone who lives in Portland i wasn't surprised they were priced that way. The standout from the meal was definitely the sour dough donut. This was fried fresh to order and we had the seasonal flavor that was lime glazed and it was absolutely breathtaking! The crispy exterior with the fluffy inside was perfection - you have to order this. I definitely will need to come and check out dinner here. Highly recommend making the trek out!
