Wow, over one hour for a simple order...kinda terrible, and some attitude from the staff too, new and clueless. The food was OK. If you are fine sitting an hour plus, the food is decent. The Marketplace Cafe is conveniently located right off of Route 1. The set up is typical diner style, but could definitely use a bit of sprucing up. During our visit, almost everyone else in the restaurant was a regular, so this place is geared towards locals that all seemed very neighborly to each other. Not so neighborly for tourists. We were in process of repositioning ourselves from Rockport to the Kennebunks and in search of a light lunch option when we cast our eyes and appetites in the direction of this small, though popular, eatery. Following a quick review of the menu and discussion with our waitress, my wife ordered a cup of the highly coveted haddock chowder while I chose Yankee bean soup, this days soup of the day. Absolutely one of THE best places I have ever had breakfast! The food was perfect! The best part was the warm, funny, entertaining and engaging staff. We felt like we were regulars, even though we weren't. They know everyone's name and talk friendly and openly with you. It's just a warm inviting place. The food comes out quick. We had Belgian waffles, eggs cooked over medium, scrambled, over well and all were perfect. Bacon was crispy! And the raisin toast was the best I have ever had. One of the best meals I had while in the boothbay region. It's well worth the short drive from the harbor for the quality, value and service. One the morning I was there, I was the only non-local because the waitstaff knew everyone else by name. They made me feel welcome though and my breakfast was delicious. I had a basic sausage and cheese omelet with toast and home fries. Plus I splurged on a toasted blueberry muffin. Everything was great. If you're looking for something gourmet or a tourist trap, this isn't it. But if you want a solid breakfast at a good value surrounded by locals, this is your place. read more

Don't be fooled by the depressed looking strip mall it's located in...the atmosphere and staff couldn't possibly be more inviting and friendly, and the food was tremendous! Had a tuna melt on rye and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. I'm glad I'm here on business for two days and get another opportunity to come back here tomorrow. :-) read more

Stopped for breakfast. Two waitresses running around, they seem a little short staffed. One of our breakfasts, eggs and a grilled cinnamon roll was good, however, the other was not. Hash browns sitting in a layer of grease, yuck. The eggs Benedict was not good. The eggs were supposedly poached, but we're hard boiled. The hollandaise sauce was congealed. This is probably our favorite place for breakfast. Prices are reasonable. Food is good. Nothing fancy on the menu. The usual eggs, pancakes, waffles, type of things, but they also have things that are not that common in this part of the country such as biscuits with sausage gravy. Additionally, they have things that once were common at breakfast time and now seem to be disappearing like baked beans.
