I'm a breakfast regular, early mornings with the local fisherman and tradesmen and mid morning with families and other locals. Just order the days special, or hope they've still got haddock chowder and pie with ice cream left (all house made and great). Booths and counter space. Very casual but always clean and bustling. Super friendly (and fast and pro) staff, even if you're from away . Coffee refills at the ready (this isn't Starbucks, don't expect an espresso machine). Stopped in for breakfast at The Galley due to a local person we met earlier that morning. He told us it is the best breakfast around and he eats there most mornings. The more you look around the more you realize why it is called the galley. If you stop in look for all of the things you might see in the galley of a ship. It is a family run diner. The wait staff were very congenial and rather cheery, the service was great, the prices were good, the portions were larger than we expected but more importantly delicious. The other patrons seemed to be locals as there were lively discussions not only at their table but from table to table. When someone new walked in there were greetings to them from other patrons. This is the local, local place. Have only tried for breakfast - about 20 times - but they do the basics like bacon, eggs and pancakes very well. It might look on the outside like a drive-by to the tourists who prefer to wait in line for other places in town, but the food at The Galley is incredibly consistent, the people who work there are great and it is the best value in town. Had a good breakfast here although at first, our order didn't go through and after 30 minutes of waiting, the other server asked us if we placed an order and we said yes, we just thought the kitchen was behind since the place had decent amount of diners. Our original server was very apologetic and she didn't charge us for 2 coffees. Greatly appreciated. The food was your typical diner food, 3 eggs over easy and bacon and BF had ham.. and had an extra side of sausage too. It was good and the home fries was tasty and well seasoned. We tried The Galley for breakfast this morning. The menu offers typical diner fare at very reasonable prices. The place was consistently slammed the whole time we were there, but the waitresses remained friendly and calm. The food was average in quality. Could have been hotter, but again it seemed unusually busy so I give some slack on that. I left with a full belly and not empty wallet! read more

We happened upon this little place by accident. We were traveling through Maine on our way to Portland and needed to find some lunch. The GPS told us about this place. Not fancy, very friendly staff, just what we were looking for. I think it is family run but great people. Impromptu trip to Popham Beach since the sun was shining & the temps were over 40!! On the way home we popped in The Galley for a cup of coffee and immediately started checking out the special board!! Haddock Chowder and Strawberry Rhubarb crisp with a generous scoop of vanilla! My man had to have the 2 hot dogs with home cut fries !! Our beverages were "free refills" soda and coffee which I cannot recall last time I enjoyed such a great performance by the wait staff taking care of our drinks. we stopped in after tha usual time for lunch cause Mar took too long at Renys store. the food is verrey good and the people be nice to us. best fish in town. Mar gets confused and tha ladies were kind to her. cause she has tha Allzhammers diseases. and I got hit on my head a long times ago. any way we bee back a lot of times and all ways like everything. they have plenty of katchup for tha fries, too. and I liked my coffee, too. mar said the milk was perfect, too. read more

I mean, this place is nothing to look at from the outside, that's for sure. But I wasn't aware you could get breakfast around for this cheap. The food was good, the place was clean (despite the outside appearance which could be called shabby), and the service was friendly. It was a little bit slow though--we got there just before the 8am Friday morning crowd and I think there was only one server working. read more

I had sausage which was maybe the best breakfast sausage I've ever had. Super friendly staff, comfortable booth, I just have no negative comments about this place. Nice little Mom and Pop diner full of local people that all seemed to know each other and everyone spoke so nice to each other. Nothing fancy. Super nice staff. Quick service and the coffee just kept on coming. After we finished our lunch no one pressed us to pay our bill and give up our seats. I had lunch there for the first time ever. I always have there breakfast there and it's great. So I thought there lunch would be too. I was wrong. I got the stuff chicken and I took 1 bite and could barely eat it, my wife tried it to and she spit it right out. So they replaced it with Shepherds pie and that was gross toom the meat was so finely chopped up. It was more of a mush then ground beef. I will never go there again for a lunch read more

Great find!! Local atmosphere, very friendly and very fast service. Family of four, we had two BLTs, grilled cheese and the fried haddock sandwich. Fries were great. Really good mayo-based cole slaw, and tartar sauce. Fountain drinks-Pepsi products. Went here for lunch during a road trip. Close to Rte 1. Very unique, definitely in the "choke and puke" category. There was a gallon of lard used in the creation of my breakfast. However, $6.99 buys you a "Big Breakfast", two eggs, two bacons, two sausage links, two slices of toast and two pancakes / french toasties AND home fries. That's a ton of food for seven bucks. Overall the place is kind of dark, so very family-owned that they have one of those signs outside that is a Pepsi sign with the name of the restaurant in black and white. Counter seating down the center and booths around the outside. Update to last review is that they now take credit cards. If you're in Bath and want something unique, come here - it's family cooking if you don't mind it greasy and heavy. read more

Doesn't get more local than this! Loved the place, but food was marginal. Overheard a conversation with staff that someone was delayed getting in to work so I am hoping it was the fry cook. Really want to like this place so will give it another try. Waitress was good, but food was very slow coming out. We both had breakfasts that should have been pretty straight forward, but weren't done right. Scrambled eggs had the brown cast of being cooked in grease/butter that was burned and should have been retired. Cool thing was the number of specials written on a white board beside the front door. it was easy to tell the locals-they all stopped as they came in and checked it out. First I want to say they are under new management now the former cook took over and has started revamping the place. My omlet was amazing and the toast looked like it was hand sliced and very good, I also grab some hash from the plate next to me and that was very good as well. My only complaint would be chocolate milk out of a carton. Not my taste. Servings were huge and prices were cheap. What more can you ask for from a local diner. read more

Nice place if you're ever in bath, small, breakfast all day, very fast service, and a lot of the food is homemade, and the deserts are alright although I'm not a big person on deserts. Prices are awesome and you get some decent portions, its comparable to fast food portions just much better cooking and not completely dry processed food. Also their handcut fries are very good. We didn't have much breakfast, which is available all day might I add, but the pancakes my brother got were very good, it also came with bacon that were pretty good.
