We stopped into Joe's on a Saturday morning. They open at 9 am for brunch, we got there around 11, but they didn't really start filling up until around noon. The brunch menu has breakfast items, and lunch items, which is something I really enjoy. The space is awesome, there's a nice open atrium and then a pubby feel downstairs with lots of tables. Now for the food. When I asked the waitress about gluten free food and kitchen practices, she got really excited and told me all the things they could make gluten free and safely (not all marked on the menu). They're also great with other allergens as well. We tried the lobster roll, French fries, Mac n cheese, and buffalo wings. All gluten free of course. There is a dedicated fryer for just fries- no shellfish or chicken fingers. All of the food was really delicious. The lobster was cooked perfectly and piled high on the sandwich, the Mac n cheese was amazing. My husband really enjoyed the wings. This is definitely a place to return to in Boston: they're great with gluten free and other allergens! read more

Great meal, nice ambiance good service! Went here for dinner after viewing the great elephant migration art installation on Comm Ave. Good thing they're open a bit late until 11 for dinner as we only got there around 9 and there was a 20-30minute wait too. It wasn't too bad as it was a nice summer night so we just hung out right outside watching the hustle and bustle of Newbury street. Our table was one of the booths - comfortable seats. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which had a quinoa crust and it was the most unique crab cake I've ever had! The crusty crust was so good! Added another layer of texture to the tasty crab cake! Went really well with the white sauce the came along with it! Really enjoyed it! I think that was the highlight of the meal for me! i absolutely love joes on newbury!! these pictures are from 2 different occasions but since both experiences were so good i had to leave a review. i came for a solo study date and some breakfast and the blueberry pancakes did not disappoint. my second time coming was for lunch with my family, and i would definitely recommend the fried calamari and fish and chips (as someone who loves seafood). my dad had the lobster roll which he said was good, and i would also recommend upgrading to their parmesan truffle fries for some extra flavor. the service was great both times, and the restaurant itself is really cute. i like that you get to people watch on newbury st while still having some privacy to eat. i'll definitely be back again :) read more

The service was good considering you could tell they were understaffed, and the food was decent. It did seem to be under seasoned, and my eggs were overcooked, but overall a good find. After an almost 3 hour drive, we checked into or hotel and asked for some dining recommendations and this place was suggested. We really enjoyed or dining experience. For starters I had a cup of New England Chowder. It was nice and thick, just how I like it. So tasteful! For or entrees I had the braised short rib meatloaf served with brussel sprouts. The meat loaf was perfect! So tasty and full of great flavor. I absolutely loved my entree. My girlfriend had the chicken pot pie. She said it was full of large pieces of chicken. Overall were truly impressed with or dining experience. Unfortunately, we did not have reservations so we sat at the bar, but it was a pleasant experience. Insanely busy on weekends because it's a tourist trap but we hadn't eaten the entire day so we decided to have Linner here (3:00pm). Pros: drinks were large and good, our server was absolutely wonderful, he split our entree for us in the kitchen which was so thoughtful, and the calamari:pepper ratio was in seafood's favor. I stopped into Joe's on Newbury for a weeknight dinner after a nice walk through Back Bay. I sat at the bar, which was busy but not chaotic. Tom Petty and other classic rock was playing quietly in the background the entire time I was there. The music added to the vibe without being distracting. It would have been easy to have a conversation if I were there with a friend or two. The space has that classic American bar and bistro look with dark wood, comfortable lighting, and a laid-back energy. The menu matches the setting. Plenty of familiar favorites, nothing overcomplicated, just solid choices that make sense for the location. I had the Maine Lunch IPA and a burger. The beer was cold and fresh. The burger was exactly what I wanted. It was juicy, flavorful, cooked as I requested, and satisfying. The service at the bar was friendly and efficient. Everything came out fast, and the staff kept things moving without making it feel rushed. I was dining alone and felt totally comfortable the entire time. Joe's has a great location right on Newbury, and it is the kind of place I would come back to anytime. Whether you are on your own, out with a few friends, or meeting a small group, it works. Good spot for a quick brunch or lunch bite. A few of us dropped in to eat the day after I ran the Boston Marathon while we were hitting up pop-up race events around the city like medal engraving and runner merchandise shopping. No complaints as even though it was a bit crowded we only had a short wait for a table. Service was good. Bloody Mary and hot coffee hit the spot. Despite having lived in Boston for quite sometime, I had never tried Joe's until this weekend! Sadly, I was a bit disappointed with my experience and it did not build up to the hype. I was really hoping to get a table in the outside-ish but sadly sat in the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere would've been better if there was a bit more light-it felt more like a steakhouse than a brunch spot at that hour. I ordered a spicy bloody mary and it was alright. A bit thin and weak for my liking. My friend had the espresso martini and that was great, however. The service was a bit slow in getting us the drinks and hard to track down for a second round. In terms of food we decided to split pancakes (duh) and each get our own main. My friend went with nachos and I went with the lobster benedict. I was SO disappointed by the pancakes. The blueberry compote was good but the pancakes themselves were ice cold and didn't come with butter or syrup! The lobster benedict also was a bit of a let down. The poached eggs were overdone and there was not enough of the sauce which made it super dry overall. I also don't think the lobster complimented the benedict the way I thought it was going to. If I had to do it all over I definitely would've tried the avocado or crab cake benedict instead. I didn't get to try much of the nachos but from what I did have they were nothing special. Great portion size though. Not sure I'm making it back to Joe's BUT if I did I think i'd just opt for an espresso martini on the outside facing seating! read more

First time here! Came here quite hungover for brunch and it was fantastic. I only ordered a cappuccino (others had alcohol) but all of the drinks looked and tasted great! Loved the variety of food on the brunch menu. Some more basic/ traditional options such as pancakes and eggs, and some other more complex options that looked and tasted fantastic. I ordered the crab benedict (I'm from maryland) and I loved it. The prices were also great for what you're getting! Will be adding this to my list of restaurants I recommend in Boston! When we arrived, the place was hopping, yet we had a reservation for 10 and were seated within a couple minutes, which I really appreciate. Our servers were so very fun, and funny. They had big smiles and we felt like we met a new friend. My food was excellent. The shrimp cocktail was excellent. The shrimp were large and thick and the cocktail sauce had a nice horseradish bit to it. The clam chowder was thick and almost enough for an entire meal, BUT I also ordered the meatloaf. My son was in town from college visiting his girlfriend who goes to college in Boston. We decided to drive up and meet them. His GF has gone to Joe's on several occasions and recommended it. We got there slightly ahead of our reservation. It is a pretty large place, but it was PACKED. Both bars and both levels were occupied. Inside was appointed well, and the tables had some room between them so you didn't ever feel cramped. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for our table. It was no big deal. When we sat at our table, it was comfortable. Our server was great. She got us our drinks quickly. I had the Newbury Old Fashioned. It was so good, I had two!! The chicken nachos were excellent. It was large enough for five people. The chips were crisp, the chicken juicy, and there was plenty of Guacamole. We all ordered lunch other than my son, who got steak and eggs. The steak was a true steak, and he was really happy with his choice. The home fries were awesome. I got the steak tips with fries, and they were solid. They were properly prepared with crispy fries. I should emphasize that the portions are LARGE...at least for us. We will be back the next time we visit. read more

Came here for a work lunch right when they opened at 11am. I was craving a French dip so split that with my friend along with the fried fish sandwich. While it wasn't the best sandwiches I've ever had, the food did its job. Our waiter was great though! He was very diligent about filling our waters and checking up on us. He even rushed our takeout orders so we didn't have to wait too long for them which was super thoughtful. When we were there the restaurant was pretty empty. If I were you, I'd skip this one. I'm very disappointed as I write this because this was my last dinner in Boston for this trip. My partner and I went here for dinner on a Tuesday evening around 7:30 pm. We'd passed this restaurant many times during our stay and it was always packed with people from what we could see from the street. When we arrived, we realized that there's a whole huge section of the restaurant that can't be seen from the outside. It was very quiet on a weeknight so we were sat immediately which was nice. Initially I was interested in the shrimp cocktail and filet mignon but after my experience I'm very glad I didn't order either as I would've been even more disappointed than I am now, for twice the price. Instead, I opted for a side house salad to start and the steak frites with mashed potatoes as a main course. The salad was larger than I expected which was lovely as it was a side salad but the lettuce was wet before I applied the dressing. It was probably recently washed but not thoroughly dried. Maybe I'm being picky, but I'm not a fan of wet lettuce. It wasn't a huge problem, I ate the salad, it had some pieces of brown lettuce, but it was fine. Next, the main course arrived. When my partner cut into it I noticed that it was not medium rare as I had ordered, but extremely rare. It looked like only the outside of the steak had been cooked. Medium rare is a hot pink center, this was grossly pink throughout. I'm not a fan of raw steak and this cut was pretty fatty. It was a New York strip, so perhaps that cut is fatty, who knows. As the entree side, we got mashed potatoes which were tasty and smooth. The potatoes were the only thing I really enjoyed during this meal. I didn't ask for the steak to be cooked more because I didn't want to annoy our server who seemed to be over her day of work, so I ate it and tried not to focus on the color. The actual flavor of the meat was very tasty but I was just grossed out over the appearance and couldn't truly enjoy it. Our server didn't return until we were finished with the meat, or I would've asked for it to be cooked more. After we received the check and were waiting for the credit card to be collected, our server was yelling to another server for help. We were the only occupied table in this section so I guess she felt that yelling over our heads was fine since the meal was over. I thought it was unprofessional. There's many better places to eat in the area, so I suggest going somewhere else or requesting that your steak be over cooked and pray it comes out how you like it. read more

Disappointment soup is what my chicken pot pie was. It looked good initially but the sauce was overly thick and I don't think I found more than 3 shreds of chicken in it. When I realized that there wasn't any more chicken, I stopped eating it. I let the server & the host know and their response was " yeah people say there's not much chicken in it" Neither person was concerned at all that my meal was poor and that was even more disappointing. The starter bread and butter was warm and salty in the best way. My limoncello cocktail was too strong for my taste and couldn't tell there was any mixers in it. The calamari was great but there was a lot more fried peppers than calamari. The beef tenderloin special was the perfect winter meal with tender beef. The main lobster roll was ok. We had brunch there on Saturday, and the food was delicious, especially the blueberry pancakes. I find that blueberry pancakes are usually not very good, but here the pancakes were amazing with blueberries inside the pancake and outside the pancake, with butter and syrup that was better than just about any other blueberry pancake I've ever had. Very impressive just on the blueberry pancake alone. I think the last time I had a pancake like that was an international house of pancakes when they used to put blueberries in the pancakes. Service was excellent, I think the server name was Kristina, a young lady with multiple tattoos who was super friendly and helpful and made the experience that much better!
