People won't believe this, but if I'm in Metairie near the Causeway area, sometimes I crave a hot Joe's Cafe doughnut. It has to be hot, fresh out of that grease, though! The omelet is cool in the sense that it allows for customization. I add all kinds of meat to my omelet for under the $15-$18 dollar limit. It's pretty solid tasting overall. When I worked uptown, my boss would bring in doughnuts from a little bakery on the Westbank called Joe's. They were so amazing! Little did I know that there was a Joe's under my nose in the old McKenzie / Tastee Donuts location at Causeway and W Esplanade. What a discovery!!! Anyway, I noticed that they sold kingcake, and in a pinch, I picked one up for my kids. Holy macaroni!!! Their kingcake is AMAZING!!! What an amazing experience! The hot glazed donut had a little crisp to it. It was so fresh and delicious. We also had the glazed beignets, which was light and fluffy. The chicken and waffles were amazing. The waffles were light and crispy and the chicken fingers were crispy. We also had the pancake breakfast, breakfast quesadilla, and mini burger combo. They were good. The service was excellent. I wish we found this place at the beginning of the trip. Lack of Consistency!!! Some days I grab a bite and it's great. Other times the food is subpar, like today. I ordered donuts and 2 breakfast sandwiches to go and neither were right. HOWEVER, I walked into a welcoming location that immediately provided coffee with no questions. The staff has always been attentive and friendly when I go, half a dozen times in about three weeks, I bring their King Cakes to out of town customers and they love them. Tiny little coffee shop punching above its weight that is known mainly for the coffee and donuts, but they also serve gumbo and chicken fried steak and other delights. My eating companions were super happy about their Monster burger and Waffle Burger, and I loved my cheesesteak loaded hash browns. The price is right and the food is great - it's a little small so if you have a party bigger than 2 your only choice is the bar. The staff was cleaning behind us and under us and It was a little disconcerting to hear ewws and gags while they were cleaning the bathroom but it was entertaining! I usually love Joe's Cafe on Terry Parkway, Gretna. I order with Uber and it's normally a club on white toast. I have to call and tell them no tomatoes because it's not an option on Uber Eats. I ordered a donut king cake on Monday morning. I had a chat with the lady on the phone. I told her I bought my first king cake at Dorignac's and everyone loved it so I told her I was ordering another one for my husband's birthday. I picked it up yesterday morning put a candle in it last night. Cut it and it was a traditional king cake, not the fried donut King cake. I was so upset. I called and spoke to a guy who told me basically there was nothing he could do. At least he could have offered some donuts or put me down for the right king cake next year. Really really upset. Gave the whole thing to my neighbors. Also, the guy on the phone said no returns on the box but the only thing on my box was cream cheese. I would love to do business with them in the future because their donuts look delicious but I can't see doing it. BTW the king cake cost $36 with a tip. read more
