I've been coming here for years and I won't stop. When you want great Italian food and good service then you go to Joe's. Everything here is amazing, literally! I always start with a Caesar salad and I love me some fettuccini Alfredo so I always get that with breaded chicken cutlet. I had some business in Ridgewood on Thursday and our client asked to meet at 6;00 PM. Unusual but OK I'll make an exception. We got there just before 5:00 PM so I figure it would be a good idea to have dinner first. Yelp directed me to Joe's and I was in the mood for Italian anyway. We walk in and the restaurant is empty with the exception of maybe one or two tables. So we place our order. My associate, ha ha, actually my son who works for me now, orders "baked ziti ricotta ", and I ordered "Spaghetti Bolognes ". The Ziti dish was piled high. At first I thought no way this kid will finish it all. Oh was I wrong, he socked it away in record time. I guess I forgot what it was like when he lived at home. BTW and just for the record I like empty nesting. Now my meal. When ever I order this meal it seems there are a few crumbles of meat on top of the spaghetti. In this case the meat was piled on. More like mea sauce with spaghetti, but must have been nearly a pound of spaghetti. The best. So 4 stars. Here's my only issue. After we ordered it took about 40 minutes for our meal to come out. Forty minutes to cook spaghetti and add some meat sauce. And the ziti came out before the spaghetti. It's spaghetti for god sakes. Throw it in the water and cook it for ten minutes, pour some gravy over it and send it out. Sorry have to go with 4 stars for the delay. Just a note.. By the time we left this place was packed and I mean packed with people waiting for tables. If I'm in Ridgewood at dinner time you will find me at Joe's. I've ordered the lobster, shrimp and mussels on more than one occasion. Being in a marinara sauce, i was worried at first that the lobster would be overcooked and chewy. Not the case at all. All seafood was perfectly cooked and the sauce was really good! Chunky, hearty, flavorful, perfectly seasoned marinara sauce. I got vegetables instead of pasta and they had butter on them. They also gave a whole loaf of seeded Italian bread. I'll definitely go back to them when in need of good food! read more

Visited Joe's for dinner at 7:30, last night with my Aunt on a whim. It was fairly busy for a Friday, but we were warmly greeted by staff and seated right away in the front with our choice table by the window. There are larger tables in the back to accommodate larger parties. Despite the fact this is not an especially large establishment, the noise level was perfect. I could hear perfectly fine at the table and speak at a normal tone, something that is very important to me when dining out. Started off with a delicious Sombrero cocktail and the tomato and mozzarella. I love the fact there is a full bar in case one is not feeling a glass of wine. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the portions received. We both ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana that comes with a little bit of creamy mashed potatoes, served with a side plate of ziti. Joe's sauce is perfect, the eggplant is thinly sliced and layered. The service deserves 5 stars as well. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and professional. As much as I would have loved to try their dessert and coffee, I couldn't eat another bite. Next time I will definitely save room! I highly recommend Joe's for a lovely Italian dinner! read more

First off I want to say I always hear amazing things about this place through family & friends so I figured I would give it a shot & it's right in my area. I went for dinner with 2 girlfriends of mine and instantly was greeted by a kind gentleman named Tony and brought the drinks and start off bread while looking at the menu. The very kind waitress Camilla was extremely attentive and let us know all the specials they offer at their restaurant (since we are first timers). The appetizers came in a timely manner and were delicious and then we had our entrees and I had the chicken Francese (which I am extremely picky with since it's my favorite Italian dish) and I must say this place met my expectations 100%. It came with a side of pasta or veggies, of course I did pasta! Hello it's Italian food lol but veggies looked just as delicious (my friend got the veggies and a fish entree). The waitress and busboys were all extremely kind and checked on us to see if all was well. The atmosphere was nice and very Italian authentic, which you don't see much of anymore. So overall it's a highly recommended place I would say to anyone who loves a great authentic Italian dinner. And will be coming back! Oh and p.s the espresso was so good ! I give this place a three star rating and that is accurate. Anyone who gave more than a three star rating is probably a McDonald or Wendy's average customer and doesn't know good authentic Italian food. Me and my wife are Italian food connoisseurs and have a lot of home made experience from out Italian background. The place is small , but nice atmosphere and quaint. Parking is terrible . We had to park 6 blocks away. Then we made reservations and still had to wait about about an hour, and on top of everyone eating. At any rate, the food is good. It's not the best I ever had. The spicy calamari was spicy, as expected, but this was way too spicy. Couldn't even eat it. I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce Fra Di Avolo, and that was delicious. The baked clams were a little soggy, must have been microwaved . We ordered a Bottle of wine for $40.00 , and it was like water. It's a $10.00 bottle of wine in the store . My expectations local red-sauce Italian joints are never too high- just do the hits and do them right, seems easy enough. Well, I went to Joe's this evening for a cocktail, a Caesar salad, and some pasta. I got none of them. First off, the fella expressed excitement that he'd get to make an Old-Fashioned, a simple enough drink; however, it's hard to make a rye cocktail without any rye (quick note- rye and corn have opposite effects on glycemic index. Corn makes me comatose, and bourbon is out of the question). Ok, I'll wait for my salad... which was literally inedible. A vinaigrette that's all vinegar isn't what I had in mind for my Caesar, especially since the romaine wasn't the freshest. Rather than creamy and satisfying, the drenched leaves were literally alarming. At least the gnocchi had a chance, but I never found out. My table mates were served their entrees and were well into them before we watched the next few tables being served with with no gnocchi in sight. They weren't bringing out my dinner unless I cancelled it, apparently, because that's exactly what happened. Now, I've been a chef for nearly 40 years, which means I'm relatively easy to please because I know how hard everyone works. Not the case here. This guy spent more time out on the floor gladhanding than he did in the kitchen, and while I can't blame him (it sucks back there), at least make sure the guys are doing right by everyone, and not just friends of the house. And, again, mediocrity would've been fine. What I got instead was at first awful, then indifferent. It wasn't cheap, either- the other 3 people in my party ordered quite modestly considering the $170 tab. Me, I had to wait until I got home for a cheese sandwich. Joe's never has to worry, however, about me darkening their door ever again. read more

Very solid classic neighborhood Italian restaurant. They have all your usual Italian restaurant dishes! Everything is also very reasonably priced and the portions are very generous. My fiancé and I were craving decent Italian food close to bushwick and this fit the bill. We got two orders of plain spaghetti with red sauce and sausage. The red sauce is simple but so insanely delicious with a strong tomatoey garlic taste. The Sicilian thin crisp sausage is left long and uncut but it is so tasty and pairs perfectly with the sauce. Pasta is also cooked perfectly al dente. The portion is so big we both saved half of it for another meal. We also ordered garlic bread which they cut into pieces and is made crunchy style. Ask for some marinara on the side to dip the garlic bread and it makes a perfect snack. Definitely will come back to this neighborhood spot again to try some other dishes! read more

The food and service are both exceptional and I was taken back by how affordable this place is. For appetizers, I got the steamed mussels in red sauce and it was only $9.75. The portions were huge and the red sauce was fresh and delicious. I tried the spaghetti with meatballs ($9.75). That's the only dish that isn't cooked with the meat sauce containing pork. The meatballs themselves were made of ground beef and it didn't taste processed. I generally hate meatballs but I would have them again at this place. I also asked for a mixed seafood pasta with all types of clams, mussels, shrimp, and fish. This pasta wasn't on the menu but it cost me $28 and I was extremely happy with it. There was a lot of fresh fish and once again, the portions were very generous. The pieces of tilapia in this pasta were cooked to perfection and the sauce had just the right amount of tang and fishiness to it. As for wines, I got a small carafe of the house montipulciano and it paired really well with the pastas. I think it was priced at either $12 or $14 and I got a decent pour out of it. That's rather cheap for wine at an Italian restaurant. This restaurant has an extensive menu asides for pastas and I look forward to coming back here to try some of their chicken entrees and salads. read more

4.5 stars! I came here because we had gotten a few great recommendations from friends. The wait staff was really pleasant and friendly. It's old school Italian/ American, so think spaghetti and meatballs. Free bread with olive oil and peppers was surprisingly really good. We started off with the Calamari app because our waiter suggested it, and boy was he right. Cooked perfect and seasoned with tomato sauce and spices. For entrees we had the Chicken Marsala and the Spaghetti with Bolognese Sauce, and both were excellent. I will 100% be back here again soon. FYI portions were huge and we had some left overs for a late night snack at midnight. read more

I was really excited to try Joe's after reading how much people loved it. I have to say I did not feel the same. The warm bread served to the table is absolutely delicious and the house Montepulciano is pretty decent. The food while not bad per se, is not great. We started off with some baked clams; fairly small clams and out of a dozen about half were very fishy and the ones that were not, were just kind of underwhelming. On to the entrees, both of which were served with tasty garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken parm is huge; the chicken was tender (almost too tender) slathered in sauce. It was good, but a bit on the oily side. The spaghetti served along side it was meh; covered in a different sauce, that wasn't so good. The veal Marsala was quite good, however not a typical Marsala. It was more of a mushroom sauce with a hint of rosemary. The veal was lovely and tender. On the side was some linguine with garlic and oil; it tasted off and was not good at all; so much so that we let the waiter know at the end of our meal because it just didn't seem right. We weren't looking for anything just offering an FYI, because maybe something went wrong. The owner/chef came out to chat with us about it. He was very nice, but a bit defensive. He was explaining how when garlic is cooked and sits it could get a taste (so you know it tastes bad? I'm confused). Look I cook, I'm Italian and eat garlic and oil pasta all the time...respectively, I'll agree to disagree on this one. The whole staff is friendly and it really seems to be a true neighborhood place. I'm happy that so many people enjoy Joe's and sorry I didn't, but not the place for me. read more

Used to eat here long ago when Iived in the neighborhood. Food was always top notch even when they were in a much smaller place down the street. They have been around forever. First two orders were 5 star. Last 2 orders not as good. Food didn't taste really fresh. When we get back to my old neighborhood we will have to give it a try again. Growing up in Queens as a 2nd generation Sicilian American in the 90s few restaurants became a family staple for weekend, holidays, and special occasions. London Lennie, Park Side, & Don Peppe to make afew. I feel embarrassed almost that Joe's was not on my parents list all these years as well. I brought my husband to this restaurant after I found it and now he's in love with it too and he's not even from Sicily. Joe and his son are amazing chefs and host I love coming here and the homemade wine is amazing as well as everything else they have. My husband wanted a dish that wasn't on the menu and they made it with no problems or questions. Went there for the first time. The staff was very welcoming. They were very attentive. They gave us bread with delicious green pepper oil and butter and The oil was amazing. We then order spaghetti with meat balls. It was well cooked. Just Loved it. My wife ordered chicken cacciatore (our server recommended as she wanted something spicy) and she loved it. I tried it too and I absolutely enjoyed it. Definitely going back again. The place was very well organized and clean. The staff was super friendly and made sure to check on us regularly. I have to say this is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. You know it's legit when they bring out the olive oil seasoning dip for the bread! And the bread was hot and fresh! Great start already. We ordered the fried calamari which was decent. We also ordered half a dozen baked clams which was probably the most disappointing because it was the smallest baked clams I've ever had in my entire life. So that was the only negative thing. For entree I had the chicken parm with spaghetti which was so good. And also the garlic bread parm!! Love love love. Overall good experience and definitely coming back for more! A very quaint and intimate setting for all occasions. The host as well as each member of the staff that I encountered were so hospitable. I definitely see why the regulars return for the sense of family provided along with wonderfully prepared dishes. The portions are of large size so you will definitely be taking home a doggy bag. In addition to the portion size the food is just banging with flavor. There is no question that the food is authentic. The decor are tables covered in white linens and green foliage. The lightening is relaxing and not too bright. The music is soothing and the atmosphere just overflows with love for good tasting food. There are 2 single stall bathrooms and a few chairs lined up near the hostess stand for those waiting for a table. We arrived after 8pm on a Thursday and only had to wait for a table because we requested a section in the back but if we wanted to sit front and center we would have been seated immediately. As we waited for a table, I enjoyed watching the staff interact with several patrons as they finished up their meal. You could easily tell that the tables had regulars but then again this was my first time and I was treated like family so I could be wrong. I ordered the chicken parm with spaghetti. I was expecting it to come all on one plate but I was wrong. There was a plate with chicken and a second plate with pasta. I had loads of food and it tasted sooo good. My friend ordered some pasta and added chicken. I forgot which dish she ordered exactly but she also was a fan. I am glad she was referred to this place by another friend. Upon completion of the meal, the waitress took my plates and boxed up the leftovers. The complimentary bread with oil was also a delight and so flavorful. The bread was piping hot and interior was hot. I can only speak good about this restaurant. Dining here was such a delight and made a great start to visiting my Brooklyn friends. Yum! Can't believe that we waited so long to try Joe's Restaurant. We went there for dinner tonight and it was actually pretty crowded. A few people who came in after us had to wait 5-10 minutes for a table, but we were seated pretty quickly. After a few minutes of sitting down, we were served with fresh, hot bread and a side of peppers in garlic oil. Delicious! The oil was so flavorful. I couldn't help sopping it up with the warm bread. The menu is pretty straightforward. They've got a few appetizers, pasta dishes, veal, chicken, fish, and steak. We ordered the ziti with ricotta and the spaghetti with meatballs. We also got a side of the garlic bread parmigano (I know, more bread, but so worth it). After placing our order, we sat for a few minutes enjoying the ambiance. The restaurant is pretty quiet except for the banter of the patrons and waitstaff. The decor is minimal, but welcoming. A large party was there celebrating a birthday. By the time we noticed the picture of Bill O'Reilly on the wall, our food arrived. The portions were huge! The server sprinkled some grated cheese over our dishes at the table and then we dug in. The marinara sauce that came with the spaghetti and meatballs was great. Chunky and not too sweet. The meatballs were huge, too! I could barely finish one. I really liked Rus' dish too. Tons of ricotta and other cheese binded together his ziti and tomato sauce (I can't wait to sneak a bite of his leftovers). The garlic bread parmigano was loaded with garlic, cheese, and herbs. Recommendations come from many of the people that we share time with, but when Mom, the old school Italian type, refers to Joe's as "A Must!", well, off I went. Sauce is not something I overlook, in fact I look closely. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo sauce was so flavorful with just the right amount of spice, I would buy that sauce separately if it was available and carry it around with me, adding it to pizza or sandwiches, almost any bread based food item. The salads are bursting with fresh ingredients, a Caesar for under $5.00 is a nice start and with the house wine around the same price per glass of a nice young, not overly juicy table wine, I kept them coming. The chicken cutlet parmigiana was less than I expected, breading was over a nice pounded breast, but it was only one piece, but as it is more of a lunch hero than a dinner item, I will give it a pass. I forked a few portions of the Sausage and Peppers off the plate across from me, honestly it was one of the best I have had. The menu is ull of Italian classics, throwing a dart at the menu may be my next option to choose as what I have enjoyed thus far, instills a firm belief that everything Joe's puts ou from th kitchen is a winner. read more

The Buccatini con Sardini e finnochi was really unpleasant tasting. The salad was kind of gross (overdressed) and the spaghetti bolognese was just passable. I've been here twice so far and I think I'll be coming back pretty often. It's a great, quality spot in a mostly residential area. Arrival: The first time I came in was on a busy Friday night. All tables were taken, busboys and waiters were super occupied. I instantly thought, "Wow crowded on a Friday in this neighborhood? Must be a good spot!" But after about 5 solid minutes of not being acknowledged, my mood started to change. Staff walked by us back and forth about 3 times. I wrote it off as them being overwhelmed. Finally, the owner (I think) comes to us and apologizes for the wait. He informs us there's a table opening up soon. Another 5 minutes and our table is ready. Apps/Drinks: They start you with a basket of delicious, flaky but soft, fresh bread and olive oil with sauteed peppers. Perfection! We had the shrimp cocktail (4 per order) and a mixed salad. Both pretty good. I had a glass of their house Cabernet which was smooth. Entrees/Desserts: Over the two visits, we've tried the chicken francese, shrimp francese, shrimp fra diavolo and the chicken cacciatore. The chicken francese & shrimp fra diavolo were my favorites. The shrimp francese was my least favorite. The breading tasted too eggy. The cannoli is housemade and was pretty good. The food style is very old school Italian and you can tell they care about the quality of their dishes. Service: So, at first I wasn't feeling the service. But once we were seated it improved a lot. The waiters were attentive, recommended great dishes and created small talk with us. The food came out pretty quickly and our refills were seamless.
