Haven't been eating out much lately, but wanted to treat myself, so I rolled in to Joe's a few weeks ago. I ordered the taquitos, which were described as such: "pulled chicken in corn tortillas, dip-fried, with salsa roja, queso cotija, sour cream and guacamole." I was charged $17.98. This may have included a small tip. I received two taquitos which had been chopped up into six pieces and placed over a few ounces of shredded lettuce, topped with about a tablespoon of guacamole, a tablespoon of pico de gallo, a more ample tablespoon of cotija, and a ramekin of salsa roja. All of it was quite frankly bad. For the price, it was borderline offensive. I challenge the assertion that the taquitos are handmade or dip-fried. They taste exactly like the frozen taquitos from Sam's Club. For the amount I was charged, I expected five, or at least three, but two? Really? None of the produce was fresh. The lettuce was browning. The salsa was going acidic. The guacamole was browning. The cotija was okay. This is an old Marin restaurant that people have been going to for years and years, including me. I used to take my kids there and they loved it. Food is decent and it's a fun lively place for lunch and dinner great for tourist to stop on their way home coming from Stinson Beach. One thing they have is a huge collection of bottled hot sauces to use with your food, but also try the house made hot sauce. They call it snake bite. I had a pretty frustrating experience here and won't be coming back. I ordered a taco and clearly asked for cheese and everything else included. What I received was just meat and cheese, no onions, no cilantro, nothing else. Mistakes happen, so I walked back up to the counter to point it out. Instead of a quick fix, the situation turned into an argument between the front staff and the kitchen about whether the taco had been made correctly. I stepped in to clarify and explained that I had literally just shown the taco to the cashier. At that point, I was essentially told they couldn't verify it because I hadn't physically handed it back to them, while the kitchen insisted it had been made with onions and cilantro. It got awkward fast. Rather than simply remaking the taco, the whole exchange felt like I was being accused of making it up over a $9 order. At that point, I decided to leave. It's not about the taco, it's about how the situation was handled. If there's an issue, just fix it and move on. Turning it into a debate with the customer is not the move. They are many hot sauce options available here to complement your dish, so less spiciness would make the tacos better and attract a wider range of people. Today we ordered a salad Fresca and a Jamaican agua fresca, but the service was terrible. Supposedly, if you order to-go, they need to give you a fork and a napkin. The agua fresca had a lid that was too big and spilled in the car because the lid didn't fit. The lettuce was rotten, and they gave you a pittance, and the salad costs over $20. I have to eat in my car, and when they don't give me what I need, the good thing is that 7/11 is very close so I can go grab what the place where you bought lunch didn't have. The menu is a single sheet, double sided, with a fairly large selection of items. I tried the nachos last time, and they were great. This time, I opted for a burrito and some plantains. The plantains were a little sweeter than I like, but that's my preference. The burrito was awesome. It had a good balance between ingredients, with plenty of meat in it. I walked over to Joe's Taco Lounge this morning to buy breakfast burritos for myself and a friend. There was one person in front of me inline and I could tell from the moment I arrived that this was going to be a struggle; the guy helping him was so unorganized and moved so slow; it literally took him more than 5 minutes to make the guy a coffee drink and put a croissant into a bag for him. Then for the next 5 minutes the guy was working on another coffee drink (not sure for who) and continued to completely ignore me. I quite literally stood there for 10 minutes and NEVER ONCE did the guy so much as acknowledge me, make eye contact of any sort, let alone simply say "thanks for your patience, I'll be right with you." Nothing. Zero. By now there was a guy behind me in line and after a few minutes he asked if I'd been helped yet and I said "no but I've been standing here for 10 minutes being ignored." After a few minutes the guy behind me realized that it was going to be awhile still so he left. I thought about it for a minute and finally said "fuck it I'm out of here too." So in the span of 10-12 minutes the 2 customers who wanted to order both walked away because the Taco Joe guy wouldn't simply make eye contact. Customer service is a lost art and it really saddens me that we think this is acceptable. Bummer because the breakfast burritos are really good, but I've had my last one from Taco Joes. read more

They have a nice front patio where you can enjoy the food in the great weather. I had the vallarta fish tacos and the horchata and those were delicious! I'd come back here for those. However I tried my friends's food, the carne asada and pollo tacos and burritos and they were just okay. Also had chips with guacamole and that was also not very good. The carne asada was a bit chewy and potentially because they were cut with the grain. And the guac tasted a bit bitter and not fresh probably because they are puréed for efficiency.
