What can I say about this place, amazing food, friendly staff, it is more of a takeout vibe in MV. When I'm in a mood for Sol Food, it's always takeout for me. It's worth the visit if you are in Marin.

I got the Sandwich de Pollo and it was possibly the best sandwich I ever had. Workers there are super friendly but I'm ngl there's not a lot of space to sit so keep that in mind if you're going there with a lot of people.

I recently tried the San Rafael location and loved it. And when I was in Mill Valley today, I knew I had to stop by! Parking was super easy. I was here at like 11am on a Saturday and the lot was kind of empty when I arrived and started filling up when I left. If you haven't been before, grab a menu before entering, right by the entrance, and order at the counter. This location is small and is more for takeout. There is a little seating area with about 6 seats and a water station located on the outside. They will ask if you need utensils and it'll come with a fork, a knife, napkins, ketchup, and house sauce. I ordered the bistec combo plate. Food came out pretty quick and I ended up taking it the library and eating it there with my friends. I thought the food was delicious. I don't know if it's the way they plate it at the San Rafael location but the portion looks a little bit bigger there. Like they gave me a LOT of onions at that location. This location didn't give as much but it was still delicious. Salad came with a vinaigrette. House sauce was good. Will definitely be stopping by again!

I didn't realize this was a take out restaurant only.. there were some seats at the window but not enough for a small group. An employee took my order and then called out my number when it was ready. I had the tripleta with fries and the sandwich was so good. A good amount of meat and the pink sauce with the lettuce and tomatoes complemented so well. The fries were ok, but probably wouldnt be good reheated. They accidentally gave me salad dressing. The fried plantains were not bad. I would try it again, but be prepared to eat it in your car or have a picnic blanket ready in your car to sit outside and eat.

First don't plan on eating here as there's only 7 barstools and they're first come first serve. We happened to get lucky with our party of five but wouldn't count on that happening again. Haven't been to this place since I visited their San Rafael location 20 years ago so it's essentially a first time haha. We ordered the bistec sandwich, pollo el horno combination, side of black beans, side of pink beans, side of fries and a pollo el horno a la mode (I wanted to try the steak and the chicken). I preferred the black beans to the pink, I like that they use potatoes with their black beans - unexpected surprise, I love potatoes The bistec sandwich was filling and very tasty. It comes with steak, grilled onions, avocado and it's pressed like a panini. Recommend their cilantro lime mayo to use on the sandwich for an amazing experience. The pollo el horno is their other super popular plate. The chicken is really well cooked (slightly under-seasoned to my liking), their rice was good. Their fries were great, actual potatoes freshly cut and fried (again potatoes are my favorite) All in all I would say the flavor and consistency has not wavered much since my visit to their sister location in San Rafael 15/20 years ago. A bit on the pricy side, but worth it once in a while. 8/10

This is a takeout only location with a large parking lot. They do have a few counter seats to eat at if you're able to grab them. My favorite was the bistec sandwich! It comes with a slice of steak (if you get the large it has two slices). I also liked the vinegar sauce for the combination meal along with the black beans. The standout surprise was the ponche which is a mango iced tea with limeade drink. I would say the chicken was just okay as well as the chuleton sandwich.

Delicious take out spot serving excellent steak sandwiches! I ordered the tried and true bistec sandwich, which was savory and flavorful, though a little greasy. The dipping sauce, which was sour and a little sweet and spicy helped balance the sandwich. Service was friendly. I enjoyed my sandwich at a lookout atop Mt. Tam, and it was still hot after a 30 minute car ride! Sol Food provides great, quick picnic food in Mill Valley. It was on the pricier side.

Got a large Sándwich Bistec. It was pretty good and a lot of food. Honestly would probably just go for the regular size in the future. Meat was a bit tougher than I would have liked, but other than that no real complaints. This location is pretty small and there are only a few seats, but they turned over reasonably quick

The food is served to go, but there are a few chairs available if you'd like to eat on-site. You can order online or place your order in person, and someone is always there to help you through the process. The food comes out quickly--and it's delicious! The ribs were incredibly tender, and the garlic plantains were perfectly crunchy and flavorful. The beans were well seasoned, and the salad dressing was surprisingly good too. Overall, a great experience!

I've been a longtime fan of Sol Food in San Rafael--the food there is consistently excellent. However, the Mill Valley location has been a major disappointment. In our last three visits, they've messed up our pickup order every single time. That's not bad luck--that's a pattern of carelessness. We drive over an hour to get to this location, and after yet another frustrating experience, we've likely made our last trip. If you want the real Sol Food experience, skip this spot and head to one of their other locations. To make matters worse, management resisted issuing a refund for an item they failed to include in our order. Hopefully, they'll do the right thing and refund what we paid for but never received. When you're charging $28 for a half chicken meal, the least you can do is double-check the order.

I've had the pleasure of having Sol Food in San Rafael last summer, and I've thought about it since. A year later, I'm back in NorCal this time at the Mill Valley location. Food is great a both locations and made quickly. At this location everything is packaged to go and there's no seating area. I can confidently say the only thing that sets both locations apart is customer service. I ordered an ice coffee and at $6.50 you'd think they'd be more compliant with making it the way you want. When asking to please dump some out and add more ice coffee because it was way too milky for my liking it became a whole ordeal the manager had to take over. Still unhappy with my coffee i just accepted it. So, unless you'd like some coffee with your milk I'd suggest getting your fix elsewhere. Food is great. Vibes are off.

They move quickly, and the food is absolutely worth the wait. The decor inside really makes you feel like you've stepped into Puerto Rico. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. You order at the counter and seating is open, so you may end up sharing a table with other guests. Honestly, that's part of the fun and adds to the community vibe of the restaurant. The service here is outstanding. Good food and fast service, what more can you ask for? My favorite dish is the Guiso de Coco con Camarones (spicy coconut stew with prawns, rice, plantains, and fresh cilantro). 6/5! Yes, it's that good. The flavors are bold, rich, and incredibly comforting. I order it every chance I get. We also had the Pollo Rostizado, and it was delicious. You can order a half or whole chicken, and it comes with rice, salad, and plantains. You get a choice between pink beans or black beans. I'm usually not a huge bean fan, but their black beans are so good that I found myself going back for more. For the plantains, you can choose between garlic plantains or sweet plantains. Trust me and go with the sweet plantains. It really makes a difference and pairs perfectly with the meal. And whatever you do, save room for dessert. The Pudín de Piña (pineapple bread pudding) is an absolute must. 5/5. It's sweet, comforting, and the perfect way to end the meal. I can never get enough of it. This is one of those places that keeps me coming back. Great food, great service, and great vibes every time.

As the summary online states it has delicious and flavorful Puerto Rican food, with popular dishes like Pollo Rostizado, Bistec encebollado, and Cubano sandwiches. And on top of that there were other orders just sitting on the counter getting cold and the lady at the front cares more about peeling mangos with her back to the front door then handing out the orders to the customers that are waiting! The manager talk to me and was able to get me my order but guess what? They gave me the wrong order. We tried the pupusas we were given, they were dry and barely any filling inside. So not even the food is good. Bad customer service which is very sad because i drove from Santa Rosa to give this location a try. Will not be coming back.
