It was good. Came here yesterday for Mother's Day and requested outdoor seating. It was windy but the sun broke through the clouds which was nice. My cosmopolitan was delicious as was our fried calamari. My penne a la vodka lacked some taste. I normally like it when it's a little sweeter. My husband got the warm lobster and do not like it at all which stinks. You'd think a restaurant on the water would have good seafood. Not sure why they never brought us out bread. Tried this spot during Restaurant Week. First off, the parking lot it limited. They offer valet parking for $30 but it goes towards your restaurant bill. But if that isn't available, you have to find a spot in the lot and then find the inconvenient sign with a QR code at a $1/hour. The bar was busy when we arrived. We were seated at a table near the windows and were able to see the amazing sunset, as well as the ferry, which both arrived and departed several times during our meal. Our server was Destiny, who was very nice and did her job well. We had ordered some cocktails which took a very long time because there was only 1 bartender attending to the crowd. As for appetizers, we chose the mozzarella steak, the garlic and herb mussels and the cauliflower bites. All were served beautifully and tasted good as well. We also asked for bread and a loaf was served warm with olive oil and a half WELL roasted garlic bulb (most likely used for decoration) but it should have been roasted a lot less for it to be used as a spread. Dinner was the steak frites, twin lobster tails and golden glaze salmon. The steak was served with a salsa verde, the lobster was accompanied by a small gravy boat of drawn butter, a half corn cob and 4 roasted baby potatoes. The salmon, was my dish and was crispy and tasty, served over broccolini stalks and purple forbidden rice. Dessert took a while to come out and we were worried that we wouldn't get back to our car for the expiration of our time. It worked out. 2 of us ordered chocolate cake and I had the cheesecake. The portions were huge! I think what took so long was that they had to open up a new cake because 1 slice was warm and fudgy, while the other was more solid and dense. Not a problem, still delicious. We loved our early dinner here! We only waited 15 minutes to sit outside. It was beautiful on the deck and the live music was great. Our server was spectacular with recommendations and getting food out for the kids fast. My husband enjoyed his lobster roll. I will be dreaming of the swordfish until I have it again. It was perfectly prepared and the sauce was delicious. Others claim to know how to cook swordfish but this place actually knows what they are doing. When you come to restaurant you expect to be relaxed not rushed. For the number of years this place has dealt with bad reviews I thought I would give it another try hoping for significant improvements. While the food was better, my meal should not arrive when we are 1/4 of the way through our appetizer. When the plate is taken away from my meal and I'm still enjoying my wine - why is my checked dropped. The was not even asked if I wanted anything else. A review I'm going to enjoy writing! Black Pearl delivered a Five Star experience from valet to desert. We chose to celebrate my wife's birthday with friends at a new restaurant location to change things up a bit. The staff from hostess to table servers and clearers were friendly and professional. Our primary server Kate, or Princess Kate as we dubbed her, elevated our dining experience reminiscent of how fine dining used to be. She made a lasting impression. Food and drink were outstanding starting with the signature Black Pearl cocktails. As a table we enjoyed Fried Calamari and Half Shell Oysters as starters. The food was dockside fresh and perfectly prepared. For mains we had 1 Pork Chop special, 2 Filet Mignon and 1 Boneless NY Strip all prepared to perfection with spot on temperatures (all different from rare through medium). Asparagus, Spinach, Potatoes and Mushrooms were presented and seasoned perfectly. The meal was topped off with a Happy Birthday decorated Espresso Crème Brûlée served with candle and song. I came here with my friend for lunch. We sat outside by the water rather than inside since it was a gorgeous day out. An area with tables, umbrellas, and seating faces the water. We asked the hostess if we could sit at the seats facing the water, and she gave us a seat and opened the umbrella for shade. We had to go inside the bar to order our food, and they brought it to us. There was some confusion when we got to the bar; we were told we could order outside, but that was quickly resolved. They were very friendly and brought the food out. I had the enjoyable ceaser salad. I also had a drink called the black pearl, which I liked and would get again. Sitting outside is definitely a good choice while the weather is nice. This was our anniversary dinner for my wife and I. The day before I was out of town on business but I arranged so I would be home the night before our anniversary. Well weather issues caused my flight to be cancelled. It was the first time we didn't wake up together on our anniversary so I was under the gun to come through. Black Pearl is a new restaurant in Port Jefferson. It's actually in Danfords Inn. There have been multiple restaurants in this space over the past few years and all have failed you although I've seen good reviews I was a bit skeptical. Okay let's go. We were able to get a table outside on the deck and overlooking Port Jefferson harbor.probably the best restaurant view in Port Jefferson. For starters our waitress, Angela, was everything you could want in a waitress. The food.. I had the 2 pound lobster and my wife had the 14oz. Strip stead. Our plan was to split both meals and create Surf & Turf for both of us. It worked as planned. Lobster was succulent and the steak was tender. Came with fingerling potatoes and corn on the cob. To boot Angela comped us desert for our anniversary. We chose carrot cake which was decadent. One issue. The bathrooms were out of order so you had to walk across the parking lot to their party rooms for a bathroom. Ugh. Oh I forgot, live entertainment on the deck. I think it's fair to leave a review after 4 dinner visits with family. Limited menu in my opinion, not enough single serving steaks for a chop house. Not enough fish options. It's a common menu for downtown Port Jefferson RECOMMEND: twin tails, dad reports perfectly cooked. raw bar, fresh and nicely presented, calamari app beautifully done and love the spicy fried cherry touch. Love the roasted garlic clove served with the bread. Sides of asparagus and smashed goldies are consistently spot on. DO NOT RECOMMEND short ribs. It's a LOOOONG SINGLE rib. Not what locals expect. Too much gristle. This dish is MUCH better at Nantucket's or Culper. BP should take it OFF the menu. Pork chop was tough. Filet mignon was tough and bland. Branzino was bland. Culper's overdoes salt, BP is light on seasoning. That said, branzino better butterflied and cordon bleu quality at Culper whereas at BP, skin was soggy, not crispy. As a native New Englander, I test all chowders. Everywhere. BP New England was so underpopulated by diced taters or clams, there was NOTHING in it. Flavor was ok but if you know your chowders, this won't work for you. Best local New England is at Nantucket's and best Manhattan; PJ Lobster. SERVICE, good by most, better by some. Steak knives are DULL. Don't wait 5 minutes before bringing salt and pepper? All Staff must use crumb scrapers, if one does it, they all should? Staff is well dressed and professional. Go for the view not the food. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. House drink 'Black Pearl' some kind of a bourbon with raspberry concoction that was truly dismal. The Ginger Sesame Napa Salad was little more than finely chopped lettuce in ginger dressing sprinkled with a few nuts. Still cannot figure out the Napa bit. Herb Encrusted Atlantic Salmon over promised and under delivered, but the couscous was good. New York style cheese cake was drizzled with strawberry reduction and highlight of the night. Fantastic dinner at the newly renovated Danfords in port Jeff. Now know as the Black Pearl. We sat outside with a beautiful view and live music. The cocktails were nothing short of creative and delicious! Cocktails pictured ate the PG-13 martini mocktail, The Barbosa, and a Smores Martini. For an appetizer we got the mussels and house made bread with garlic butter. And for dinner I had the Salmon and my friend had the Chicken Milanese. The food was fantastic from beginning to end and such a step up from the previous Ferryman's Grille. Our server Johanna was very attentive and friendly and had great recommendations. The manager Clayton came over to check in on us and make sure our experience was memorable. All around great experience and the price for the amount of food was amazing. Wow. Wow. Wow. So to start off we had 7:45 reservations (highly recommend). Showed up a little early and were sat outside before our reservation time. Had a couple drinks while waiting everything was great and the vibes were no less than. Once we sat down we were greeted by our server Caleb and from beginning to end, he made our night...even if the great food wasn't part of the deal. Attentive, personable, and all around made us feel like we weren't just another table. Certainly he's nothing but a benefit to the business. He even kept to his promise about having our food served and having us to our ferry on time. Manager on shift checked in on all tables multiple times and wanted to make sure everyone's experience was what they wanted. Food solid. Drinks consistent. Service impeccable. The Black Pearl is an absolute disaster! The service is amateurish, the food is pathetic, and the atmosphere is subpar. The bar area's rug smells like a crime scene! It's sad that this is the only hotel/restaurant in Port Jefferson town and it's always a flop. This is a major opportunity for sustainable financial and social growth. Northport, Centerport, Sag Harbor, and other towns maintain a high standard and stick to it. This makes them lucrative communities and desirable destinations to visit. My friend ordered the truffle mac and cheese, which was an easy 10/10. The portion was huge (definitely enough to take home), rich, and full of flavor without being overwhelming. I had the boneless NY strip, and it was cooked to absolute perfection -- tender, flavorful, and exactly how a steak should be. The service really stood out. Our server, Kait, was immaculate -- attentive, friendly, and on top of everything, we also noticed how attentive all the other servers were to their tables, and the managers coming by to check in was a really nice touch. I very rarely post a bad review but our recent dining experience dictates one. We were easily sitting for more than ten minutes before someone came over and I was able to ask for a glass of water and after reminding the waiter awhile later I finally got one. This was definitely a sign of things to come. After another interminable wait our quite tasteless Ceaser salad was served. My wife and I decided to split the NY strip with mashed potatoes which we ordered medium rare. After telling the hostess that we'd like to eat dinner on the same night we ordered it, the steak arrived. It more resembled a thin flank steak than any resemblance to a NY strip. Rather than medium rare it was very close to completely well done. When I pointed this out to our waiter his response was " I put the order in medium rare". No apology nor was I asked if I wanted to change it. We finished off dinner with cheesecake which was on par with the rest of the meal. So, to sum it up: service was terrible and the food was unacceptable. Their motto should be: "We may be slow, our food might not be good, but we're expensive!" read more

Very similar menu to The Wave, which was previously here. Love the yellow umbrellas -- adds such a nice touch! While it's not on the menu, the watermelon margarita is amazing. If you ask for bread, you will get it and not be disappointed -- it comes with butter in olive oil and roasted garlic. So delicious! Food is probably a 4 star rating, service about 2 so here's your average. I'm noticing lately in a number of restaurants that there seems to be a lack of awareness of what the purpose of a host or hostess role is, and I can only blame that on the management responsible for filling and training these positions. The majority of host positions are filled by the face in the cell phone generation, but that doesn't excuse the fact that many patrons are still expecting a kind smile and a welcoming energy when they enter. We walked up to Black Pearl and had to wait while two hostesses chatted with a server. We thought it was regarding tables/work which would be reasonable, but no, just socializing. When they were finished, the server walked away and the hostesses just looked up and let us initiate the interaction. Weird to be afraid to speak when you're a literal hostess. We were given a 15 minute wait time and they took our number and we went and sat on the swing about four feet from the stand. Twenty minutes later we checked on the reservation and were told we were already texted. 1) We're standing four feet away from you, 2) no text came. Walked us to a table without a word, set down our menus without a word, and walked away without a word. Mind you I am a chatter so I am throwing 'thank you's and 'boy what a lovely day's over the place. Our server took awhile to come over but was friendly and social when we did see him. Cocktails are super delicious, but definitely overpriced even for the area and season at around $17 each. Had our server returned even once during our meal to check in with us, he probably would've gotten another cocktail added to the bill because that's how good it was-but I am never going to chase down a waiter for a $17 drink. Never showed again until we finished our meals. His loss. Food was great: burger and a huge portion of mussels, but the service was that off-putting that we probably won't be looking to return anytime soon. My unsolicited advice would be to remind your hostesses that they're not running security for the building. They're there to welcome guests. The young lady working yesterday couldn't have been less friendly and couldn't have been more aloof. I'm sure her attitude is very cool to the other 19 year olds at the stand with her, but that's not her audience. The actual adults going to spend money and eat good food in a great locale aren't impressed by a teenybopper with a stank face and bad attitude and good vibes at the start of a dining experience goes a long way. The mudslide tasted spoiled, the Corona was warm, and the Miami Vice tasted like there was barely any alcohol in it. It also took about 20 minutes to get the swordfish, and the fries were dry.
