I dont know what all the buzz was about. I was really disappointed. I got a BBQ chicken sandwich and the roll was stale. My wife got a Buffalo chicken sandwich and it had almost no sauce. Who really goes cheap on sauce? The fries werent bad. You could tell younger cooks were working there because the place was empty and it still took 20 minutes to get some short-order food out. Overall, I paid 26 dollars. I wish I had something better to say about a local business, but this one really fell flat. read more

Unbelievable wings here and the food deserves 5 stars, but I asked the people there if they could deliver to my house in Mendon, and they told me they would only deliver to Bellingham. Loved the ribs, tender, fall off the bone. I did ask them to not put extra sauce top which was just the right amount of sauce for me. Pulled pork is wet and ask for extra sauce on side. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings and an order of onion rings. The Wings were the frozen flat ones you get at a sub shop. Very boring. I ordered them medium and they were bland with little to no sauce on them. The onion rings were mediocre much like something you order from Burger King. I ordered these two items and a bottle of root beer totaling $15.50. That's a little pricey if you ask me. I did however get a small side of barbecue sauce for the onion rings. The barbecue sauce wasn't that bad. I definitely would not recommend this place. read more

Food was ok - nothing to RUN back to. Decor inside I could usually care less about no matter how nice or low budget, but this was just odd - Christmas lights, lots of random clutter and lattice with fake vines just made it weird. Had to wait up front for a few minutes too long until someone came up front and took our order. We had something they said was tenderloin and I can tell you with 101% assurance that it was NOT tenderloin. Yea so I had the Joff's juicy, med rare and it lived up to its name. It's. Juicy. And tasty, fresh grilled! I also had their fresh cut fries. I really like their fries because they are thick and potato-y, AND CRISP!! I will be back here the next time I'm in town. I highly recommend this place. Joffs is our neighborhood BBQ joint, and I am so glad it is. We love coming here for lunch. The food is exceptional. My usual is the pulled pork, because a good pulled pork sandwich can be hard to find elsewhere, but the burgers are particularly spectacular. They are handpacked and cooked perfectly, with a pink center and delicious char on the outside. Heaven on a (fresh, doughy) bun. The onion rings are a must, and so are the fries. Like a true BBQ master, he makes his own sauce. The service is always great--the folks behind the counter are very friendly. It takes more than 90 seconds to get your food, but that's OK. It isn't McDonalds--the food is obviously all fresh and made to order. A takeout order is usually ready in 15 minutes, and less if you are waiting in-house. All in all, a great joint for locals and worth the drive if you aren't. Great job, Joffs. read more

We visit Bellingham 2-3 times a year to indulge in AMAZING BBQ here. Classic, welcoming and most importantly, delicious.

This place must be surviving on their standard grilled items, like hamburgers & wings, because the BBQ is just not happening at this place. To be honest, I thought the place was called Joffs Backyard "BBQ" and not "Grill". When I left the place, and found out that it was "Grill" from their signage, it all made sense. When I pulled in the parking lot, a flume of smoke was rising from the the building, so I thought I was in for some fine smoked BBQ. Even walking in the door, there is a haze of smoke that is heavily present. BUT, no smell. What kind of smoke has no noticeable aroma too it? On to the food.... I got the Pulled Pork & 1/2 Rack of Ribs plate. It came with corn bread, coleslaw, and a cup of extra BBQ SAUCE, I guess for the ribs. First of all, I hope you want sauce poured all over your pulled pork, because you don't have a choice. It's coming that way, if you don't know to ask them not to. Pulled pork was way over cooked and very well could have come from a crockpot. Absolutely no smoke flavor, and in addition to the sauce they put on top, they must mix some in with the big batch once pulled, probably to add moisture to it. BIG FLOP, No good. They must only have one BBQ sauce flavor, as there is no selection. It ok tasting, with a strange aftertaste. Take it or leave it kind of sauce. Next I tasted the ribs. Also very over cooked. Read other reviews and everyone describes "fall off the bone", like that is the tell-all of a well cooked rib. This rib does in fact fall off the bone, because it is overcooked and turns to paste in your mouth. There is nothing to actually chew. Again, NO SMOKE FLAVOR at all!!! A rib should pull from the bone easily, not fall off, and leave you work to do by chewing it up. I caught about 2 bites like that from the center area of the rack. Wicked disappointment. Cornbread & coleslaw were ok, but who cares. WAY overpriced. Bathrooms are old and very used, as is the entrance to the place. They leave the doors to the vestibule open and all sorts of street grime, sticks, leaves, and sand get in there. Very unappetizing way to begin a meal. Wont be back. read more

This place rocks. As you walk in there are picnic tables to the left and a TV to your right for sports. There is table seating as well. The smells when you walk in let you know your near a grill. Ordered the "Joff's Juicy" Burger. Perfectly cooked with lettuce and tomato and Joff's Burger Sauce (Thousand Island Dressing). So good it did not need cheese. Looking for a step above 5 guys and we sure found it. I actually had the half rack of ribs, and I am sure glad I did. Unbelievable, tender meaty moist and flavorful. Best I've had in a long time. Everything else was ok too, but the ribs...oh man. Now I expected and did like the smokey atmosphere, like grilling in the backyard. But I would have to say I think it was a bit much tonight. Joff's is not bad, but it isn't the best BBQ I've had. Some of the offerings here are rather middle of the road. What they do, they do pretty well. There seems to be some gaps in the menu, though. The do a good job on the baby backs. The meat falls off the bone, there isn't a complete dousing in sauce, and there is actually some burnt ends. But there is no mention of a St.Louis rib. Baby backs are fine, but how about super-smoky SL rib on the menu? The corn bread is ok and the slaw, although forgettable, isn't bad, but how 'bout some other BBQ-type sides? Maybe some greens or mac-n-cheese. I have no real complaints other than some missing items. It just seems that the menu was kept "safe" with standards and nothing super-outstanding. This would work and work well if the service was AAA+++, but that too is middle of the road. The 'Dollar Store' decor has to go....kinda tacky. Overall, Joff's is ok and if I'm in the area, or driving through, I stop. I wouldn't make a trip to get there, though. As long as you keep your expectations in check, you won't be disappointed. read more

We just had joffs bbq cater for us over the previous weekend and I'm very impressed. First off I have been a loyal customer for a few years and have never had a single negative experience. The staff is great, the food is better. So back to the catering we got the joffs slaw, Potatoe salad, ribs, Dixie chicken, cornbread and my favorite the pulled pork. Now I'm not sure what it cost because that was not my responsibility. However all 30+ people that were at the event became fans of joffs backyard grille that day. Young and old everyone was pigging out. I was saddened by the fact everyone loved the offerings so much that by the end of the night almost everything was gone side for half a tray of ribs and some chicken. Don't worry though I brought that into work the next day and everyone who was lucky to get a serving during break time loved it. So much so that my cow workers even grabbed a bunch of pulled pork sandwiches yesterday. To joffs keep up the amazing work and rock on! read more

Joff's is o-so-okay. I mean, there is really not that much good barbeque around here anyway. They don't make their own barbeque sauce which is the whole jist of a great BBQ joint. However, I do enjoy going there because its cheap and a good place to hang out. It's clean and the service is always good. Not to mention, there are plenty of things to choose from on the menu. It's pretty informal and it's a good place to get a lot of food and have a bit of everything. Besides the par for the course BBQ (for these parts anyways), it's a good joint that we'll be returning to. read more

I am willing to pay $6.00 for a good burger so price was not a problem. I also had the sweet potatoe fries, which were a little too salty for my taste. When I first moved to the area - I was thrilled to have this type of food in the area. Take-out was really good and I was satisfied. HOWEVER, after dining there, the past few times - these few things irk me: 1. They actually CHARGED us for Blue Cheese dressing (50 cents!) when I wanted some to accompany my Buffalo Wings. Who DOES that? It's like charging for ketchup. 2. They do not offer paperplates to customers. It sounds silly, but when you are trying to cut meat in a cardboard bowl for a child - it just does not work. 3. They don't offer/fill the kool-aid in the soda machne. Just soda. Or you can buy what is in the cooler - soda, water, gatorade. 4. Seating was tacky. Not a comfortable place to eat. Everyone just looks awkward and uncomfortable in their plastic lawn chairs or picnic tables. Not to meantion, when we walked in the whole place was filled with smoke and not one fan was turned on to air out the place. Basically, they charged us over $30 for Picnic food (for 1 child, 2 adults) and offered nothing else for comfort and customer service. P.S. We also had to pick up our own food at the window. Just seemed shabby and cheaply done. They are trying to save a buck here and there - but it comes off really obvious. the food is good - but not THAT good. My favorite place in the area. The BBQ Backyard Burger is the best burger I've found and the sweet potato fries are amazing. The pulled pork and buffalo chicken sandwiches are close seconds. I love the atmosphere and decor as well. It's really original and couldn't be more fitting. The staff is great. I coached a youth basketball team one winter and the owner allowed us to have an end of the season party there. They took great care of us and the kids loved it. The only downside is that once you've had one of "Joff's Juicy Burgers" it's difficult to go back to anything else. read more

I've been to Joff's a few times while in the neighborhood, and have come away both times satisfied. First visit I had wings and fries. I got the firegrilled honey garlic wings and they were actually really excellent. Good flavor, good seasoning on the wing, and the sauce was tasty and not overpowering. A definite winner. The fries were obviously handcut and very crispy and delicious. Any place that has the sense to have malt vinegar for the fries is excellent in my book. Second visit I went for the burger. Cooked perfectly(Medium) with a good crust, fresh toppings and it was gigantic!! Definitely above average. Fries were once again very good. I have not tried their pulled pork or ribs yet. If I had to choose between the two, although the burger was good, the wings were really what made this place shine for me. read more

I have lived in the area for about a year now and I've been dying to find a good local BBQ spot, so my husband and I decided to give Joff's a shot today for lunch. Needless to say, we will not be returning. First off, the atmosphere was pretty awkward. There was only one person working, and the place was a complete ghost town. The gentlemen who was working seemed kind of put off by our business and annoyed that we interrupted his TV time. My husband and I ended up ordering the boneless "wings" and after waiting a good 20 minutes or so for our food, it turned out to be soggy chicken tenders coated in mediocre, syrupy tasting "homemade" BBQ sauce. My husband got honey garlic sauce on his and they were just as bad. The fries were old and stale and looked as if they were deep fried for a second time and reheated in a microwave. The fountain drinks were warm and flat, and we were told there was no ice in the machine so he brought us a plastic cup of half-melted ice.... We ended up throwing a majority of the food away, even after dropping $25, since I am 8 and a half months pregnant and didn't want to risk getting sick. I'm surprised this place got some decent reviews, but then I realized they're a couple of years old, so just save your money and go somewhere else. Long story short, this place is seriously on it's way out and I honestly believe we were their last customers. What a shame :( read more

We got takeout... ribs, coleslaw, salads, cornbread and a crispy chicken club and fries and chicken tenders for our son. The only 3 things that were edible was the ribs, chicken tenders and cornbread. Chicken sandwich had a thin piece of greasy chicken 2 pieces of way too smokey bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a huge bun. It was awful. The french fries were limp and smelled like old grease. Coleslaw was way too sweet and salads were just lazy and bad. Will not be going back. A huge waste of money. read more

Been to this place several times and love it!!!! You simply can't get better wings anywhere. For a real treat try the buffalo chicken sandwich with suicide sauce. Of course you've got to like spice for that one. Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw - yummy - as are the Mediterranean and vege burger wraps. And you can't leave with out getting the sweet potato fries and onion rings. This place wont disappoint. And, I like that it is family owned and operated.
