Bought a Ford Windstar from them about four months ago and was told that this van still had a lot of life still in it and would last us a long time. After owning it just 3 weeks, I was driving it with my kids in the car and the transmission went out. Luckily we were not on the highway and were pretty close to my mom's house. Called John and Sons and was told since I bought the vehicle as is, there was nothing they could do for me. After calling a couple of times and leaving many messages, the owner said that they would see how much their transmission shop cost but I would have to have the vehicle towed to Grand Rapids from Belding. When my local mechanic finished fixing the transmission it was over $2,000. Recently we had to replace the starter that set us back another $280.00. That doesn't include the other money we had to put in it for regular maintenance. They offer a great price because in the end the vehicle will cost you more in repairs then it is worth. I Purchased a 1999 Durango a week a go, I talked to John's son and he told me the only thing wrong with this durango was the rust on it and the high miles. I told him I need 4 wheel drive and he assured me everything works great on this car. My daughter was there too. I took it for a small drive but the gas light was on and i didnt dare go far. It was so busy in that area, I could not tell much about the car. i went back and asked johns son again, he kept telling me how nice this was and only one owner and that the motor would out last the truck. This was all the money I had and my only car, I told this to johns son. Right after I bought the durango, no heat, got that fixed, 3 or 4 days later I went to pass someone going slow, and the check engine light came on and the motor's making load and bad noise. Today I went to take my father to dylasis which is a long drive and it was slippery so we took the durango because it had 4 wheel drive, Now I put in in 4 wheel and it is making a load clattering noise and not working we almost got stranded in the middle of know where. I called johns son at that time and he said sorry but you will have to speek to my dad, When John called he said sorry too but sometimes that happends. Now I have a car with no four wheel drive and hoping everyday I dont get left on the side of the road, Also wondering when motor is going to blow so i have to junk it. Then dont have no way to get another car. I will never buy a car from them again, I will tell everyone i know, also I am going to take them to small claims court. They were happy to take my 2,500 cash I saved for a long time for. but now wont stand behind there business. It was only a week I dont even have the tile yet !!! read more

I too had a bad expierance with John and Sons, spring of 2010,I traded my 95 F250 in, my wife's van (looked like crap but ran like a champ), and the $1,400 cash i had because my wife needed a better vehicle. i was also there with my wife and 6 year old special needs son. We told him we go to Indianapolis every month and we needed reliable transportation. He happily listened to our situation, and what we had to work with and pointed us to an Astro van, that had a plipping transmission, after driving that and declining it i asked about a 98 Ford Windstar. Well it did better on the test drive, and my wife liked it, but it was a little more than I could afford and needed at least a tune up, or so I thought. I told him this and he acted slightly offended retorting, "That is a one-owner trade in, that is a solid and dependable car.", he then said he would take everything I had, and I could make him cash payments on the remaining $800. He then reassured me that this vehicle would get my family back and forth to Inianapolis safely and reliably. Well our first trip to Indianapolis, 15 days and about 300 miles into owning the vehicle, we broke down in Benton Harbor, not even two hours away. Well after a $300 tow back home, I called Ed on Monday and told him what happened (after my calls not being returned i rode the bus down there, he wasn't there and his son told me "i don't know where he is but you didn't buy a warranty") he finally returned my call around 4:00, listened to the story and said "my hands are tied, you didn't buy the warranty". To which I responded, "you said the vehicle was not available for a warranty" I proposed, he either waived the balance due, or purchase the parts, add them to my bill and I'd do the repairs myself, my family needs a car. His response, "my hands are tied" so after borrowing $700 for parts, spending two days fixing the intake gaskets(upper and lower), replacing the rear controll runner valve, plugs, wires, coil pack, sway bar, and inner tie rod ends, i found out I knew a couple people who Ed went to school with and they where shocked when i told him this. I went and told him about that and called him out on his morals, he ended up waiving the balance, but the van only made it to Indy one time after that then started misfiring after 20minutes of driving. Thinking I did something wrong (i'm a roofer not a mechanic), I took it tothe Ford dealership who complimented the job I did and said he couldn't figure it out, and that I did everything he would have done to fix the problem and i should trade it in somewhere else or scrap it. We got 2,700 miles out of the van, for every penny I had and then some, a truck with about 150,000-200,000 miles left in it, and our old voyager that was shaky and ugly but wouldn't stop running. BOTTOM LINE NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, BUY A USED CAR FROM JON AND SONS USED CARS. read more
