So the whole time there, I struggled to hear people and ensure I was being listened to. John Doe is my go-to bar when I'm in Midtown. Why? There are few bars that have a happy hour that begins at 11AM, the drinks are good quality and the people (workers and regulars are chill). My go-to is the New Fashion which is just their take on an Old Fashion. However, besides the drinks they have a pretty decent menu with daily specials which make the place worth it. I've only taken advantage of the wing and slider special but that's all I've needed. The wings are also a good size - not those tiny wings that look like rats. With the number of pretentious spots in Midtown that up-charge as if you're drinking in heaven, I think this is a hidden gem (not really since before COVID, after hours would be packed). But if you're looking for a quick spot to get some sliders, wings and good drinks at a decent price - this is the spot. If it doesn't become your regular spot, it will be a close 2nd. read more

Was here last week, we ordered 4 dozens of oysters, fish and chips and truffle fries. Beer was great, oysters were big and fresh, fish and chips were flaky and perfectly fried, possible the best fish and chips I've had in NYC and truffle fries wasn't greasy at all but perfectly seasoned. Everything is great but when we were about to dig in to fish and chips, IDK where it came from but there was a huge roach crawling on my wrist!!!!! I freaked out, screamed a little and shook it off. Servers noticed and manager was kind enough to keep taking care of us. I was scared so we moved to a high table and then my friend saw a roach (probably the one I shook off) crawling back towards the kitchen. We notified the servers and they took care of it right away. All our beers + fish and chips off the bill (they also gave us a fresh one after the incident). It sucks because the food was great, crowd was nice, amazing happy hour deal but I don't see myself returning for a while... still freaking out everytime I get a buzz on my wrist from my apple watch. it's like a PTSD lol Hope they take care of their rodent issue quickly... because it is so unfortunate they have to go through that! read more
