Dr Hockin and his team were great. The care they took to make sure I was comfortable, knew what to expect and follow up was tremendous.

Not in Delta Dental network and purposefully hid that fact as long as he could. TL,DR: Dr. Hockin is purposefully trying to scam people into letting him do their dental work despite knowing it's going to cost them an exorbitant amount because he's hiding the fact that he's not in-network. Not sure if he's in any other insurance network, but even if he isn't, he will 100% not tell you that. My dentist referred me here for a root canal. Apparently they used to be in-network until about 3 months ago, but aren't anymore. My dentist was unaware of this. When I called to make the appointment, they asked for my insurance provider, member ID, Group #, all of that and never said anything about being out of network. When I got there they did another x-ray, even though my dentist sent over the x-rays he just took earlier this week, and did a quick, 2min exam. They then tried to have me sign something else and said they were gonna start the procedure but I asked for an estimate of my co-pay first. Literally every other dentist I've ever been to has always provided me with an estimate before doing any work and I found it shady that these folks didn't. The nurse seemed anxious when I asked for it but she went and put one together. The estimate FOR MY PORTION / CO-PAY was over $800 for JUST the root canal since my dentist was gonna do the post and crown himself next week. My dentist's receptionist had looked it up for me when I was there earlier this week and told me my co-pay for the specialist would probably be around $40-$60 because I opted for the best dental insurance my employer offers. When I questioned the unexpectedly high cost, only then did she admit to me that it's because they're not in-network for Delta. I let her know that there was no way I was having the work done there when it would be less than 1/10th of the price at an in-network Endodontist and she completely understood. As I was leaving I asked her what the charge would be for what little they did today and she told me it would be $170. For comparison, my dentist did multiple x-rays (rather than just the ONE the endodontist's office did) and a much longer exam and the whole visit was covered by insurance, zero co-pay. At this point, it became clear that that's why he had her do that single x-ray despite the multiple angles that my dentist had sent him. He was trying to milk the appointment for all he could. Of course, I disputed that amount on the grounds that I wouldn't even have set foot in his office had they not hidden the fact that they were out-of-network. She went and talked to the dentist, came back, and said they'd be waiving the charges. I have no input as to how good or bad his actual work is since I didn't really allow him to work on me. All I know is that I'm down 3hrs of PTO at work for nothing, and am going to have to suffer at least an extra 3 days, since it's currently Thursday afternoon, with this tooth ache while I find and make an appointment with an in-network endodontist. Had they told me on Tuesday when I called to make the appointment that they weren't in-network, I might have been able to book an appointment at that time to have the work done this week by someone in-network. Regardless of how good or bad his actual dental work may be, Dr. Hockin is just a terrible person. read more

Dr. Hockin is very kind. When you have to experience traumatic dental work, it's nice to feel you're in expert hands. All providers aren't created equal, I feel lucky I was routed here. Over the pandemic I got a tooth ache. My dentist said I needed a root canal. I called Dr. Hockin they got me in quickly and the whole procedure was done in about an hour. No more pain or discomfort. Dr. Hockin is pain free and his staff are so nice. Thanks for all your help! read more

I was referred here by my dentist when he couldn't find the source of tooth pain I was having and so glad I decided to get a second opinion. Dr. John diagnosed me with pulpitis, a cracked tooth and wanted to start me on antibiotics right away before performing a root canal. I was shocked because while I was having pain I didn't think it warranted a root canal. I was also 35 weeks pregnant. After my second opinion, the new endodontist performed multiple tests and found nothing wrong with my tooth. In fact he found that my nerve was healthy! No root canal was needed just a simple mouth guard to prevent nighttime tooth grinding and pressure and to alleviate symptoms. If I hadn't sought a second opinion I would have had an unnecessary root canal and needed a crown. So thankful I trusted my gut and not this professional opinion. Also, I had to wait for them to fax my dentist and figure out what insurance I had (they couldn't figure out from my card if I had an hmo or ppo. No other place I've gone to has had this issue). read more

I had been having a pretty severe toothache for about a week that continued to get worse. I got a list from my insurance company of providers I could use. I found most are only in each office for 1 to 2 days a month and travel all over the place. I couldn't find one that would be in our area, with availability for several weeks. I finally called Dr. Hockin's office, and when the receptionist heard I was in so much pain she told me to come on over and they would take care of it. Dr. Hockin and his staff were so nice. Made me feel like I was their most important patient and like I had been coming there for years. I have a fear of going to the dentist so I was very nervous for a root canal. They made me feel very comfortable and at ease and I felt absolutely no pain. The doctor and his staff were so personable. I actually enjoyed my time there and was so relaxed I think I dozed off once or twice during the procedure. I was sure once the numbness wore off I would feel pain, but I didn't feel once second of pain. read more

I was in major pain and they got me in the next day at 8:00 am. Dr. Hockin diagnosed within minutes what my (former) regular dentist could not. Turned out I needed a root canal (my first), and they started on it immediately. Not going to lie and say that part was pleasant, but he and his staff were very professional and attentive. I was relieved after the procedure, and didn't even need the medications they prescribed for the pain. The office staff is top notch, very professional and comforting at the same time. I don't recommend this dentist. He smokes, which I find detectable and unacceptable. He barely greets or acknowledges the patient aside from checking the mouth and asking/informing the barely minimum. You won't know when he's done with you for the day until the assistant tells you, he just walks out. There is a wait over half an hour (if not an hour) for short appointments (probably not profitable) and reminder phone calls only for surgeries (definitely profitable). I recommend he retire as he is well of age, not sure how well he does his job, he was wondering how to raise the patient chair I was sitting on, the basic skill you'd expect a dentist to have and it's worth mentioning that my surgery results weren't optimal, not sure if I can fault him directly or the universe. read more

Absolutely the worst patient service EVER. I had to cancel (same day) appt for part 2 of my service. I had ALREADY PAID IN FULL for my procedures . I offered to come in earlier or later same day. They couldn't accommodate, so when I cancelled I tried to re schedule . I explained I HAVE A SPECIAL NEEDS SON WHO COULD NOT BE LEFT HOME ALONE OR SIT IN THEIR OFFICE, unfortunately that's why I had to cancel. I had no one to stay with him. They told me they were referring me back to my dentist. I would've been happy to pay a cxl fee. They were unprofessional and unaccommodating. Our family business has been successful for 38 years because we accommodate people. I would NEVER SEND ANYONE TO THIS OFFICE. Not only did they have poor Covid-19 hygiene practice (the receptionist took mask off to talk on phone and walked around reception area without mask when she thought no one was looking and they did not sanitize the bathroom key after a patient used it) but they didn't tell me that the "follow up" visit was actually to complete 2/3 of the work! I only found that out when decided to cancel what I thought was just a routine follow-up, because I did not want to continue due to hygiene. My regular dentist was shocked, and arranged for a different Endodontist to do the rest of the work. Also, Dr,. Hockin did not forward the xrays or notes about the work he did to the second endo, although he said he would. I am waiting for promised reimbursement of payment and insurance. read more

Had major jaw pain from work another dentist (new for me as my old dentist retired) did and I was getting desperate. I felt I needed a second opinion, so I saw Dr. Hockin who had done previous root canals on me with no problems. Dr. Hockin gave me some quick tests and x-rays and two root canals later, my jaw and life are pain free. The previous root canals were done when I had discomfort but this time I had life changing pain and Dr. Hockin fixed me. He is the best. read more

The Dr is amazing. I for one am very afraid of dentist and he made sure to make me feel comfortable as well as did a great job. The first visit was perfect but the check up was not. I have no complaints about the Dr. he is truly a great man, however the dental assistant has the worst attitude ever. The fact she was so pissed off the whole time and then argued with the Dr well he was working on my mouth scared the shit out of me. I'm getting work done and the unprofessional attitude from the assistant when needles and drills are in my mouth does not make a customer especially when they are paying $1730 for a root canal feel comfortable. I honestly feel I should be compensated because that was by far the worst dental experience I've ever hand. This is so sad too because the Dr is amazing but with staff like that wow I can hardly see how he is still in business. Literally I was shaking in the chair from the woman who I feel hates her job talks back to her boss as he works on my mouth not a great picture. Beware! Paid $175 for consultation. Went to office a few weeks later for root canal. Called the day before and they said the same price that was quoted to me. Confirmed the price at the front desk when I went in for my appointment. After I was settled in the dental chair and got numbed up for the procedure, they brought the paperwork in for me to sign and said the price went up by $150. Since I was in the chair and couldn't talk, I signed the paper to get the work done. I don't understand why I wasn't asked to sign the paperwork at the front desk before the procedure. Also don't understand why they didn't stand behind the price they had quoted me. I promptly paid the original agreed amount and did not pay the extra $150. I will never pay the extra $150 rip-off money. To me this was a classic "bait & switch" action. You better sign all paperwork before being taken to the back rooms. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for this office. They have given my account to collections to put a bad mark on my credit. I would rather pay $100's for a professional to have this problem removed from my credit than give this guy the $150! read more

I was referred to Dr. Hockin by my general dentist to look at an infected tooth to determine if the tooth could be saved. Before I went I asked them if I was covered by my insurance and they told me they were a in-network provider. Unfortunately my insurance did not cover consultations. In the mean time I went to see another endodontist and paid a $80.00 out of pocket fee for another consultation. I received a bill from Dr. Hockin for $198.00 for what really amounted to was 5 minutes of his time. I can only assume he was annoyed that I chose not to use him for my root canal service. Truthfully the cigarette smoke smell on his breath was more than I could take. I am paying the bill but really don't understand how anyone would want to use an individual who would charge these audacious rates. read more

Was referred to Dr. Hockin because I am diabetic and had an abscessed tooth which is common in diabetics. I went to him and he stated I need a root canal told me he could treat it with out antibotics which was a big mistake and I should have left know what I do now. Shortly after it was done I ended up in the hospital for 12 days and almost died. I contacted Dr Hockin recently and he denied stating that I had an abscessed tooth an told me I was a liar Please stay away from this guy at all cost read more
