Went here for a birthday dinner w/ reservations for 8- worked out perfectly! I got the sushi boat for two, and loved the freshness and variety of the sashimi and rolls. I don't like fried food so my friend ate all the cooked fish (fried shrimp, dragon roll etc) and I indulged on the raw. :) scallops were my favorite! I also love that the lighting is somewhat dim- makes for a relaxing atmosphere. Not to mention, the waitress was very attentive and sweet, cooing over the baby at our table. :) read more

This place is good and all but their customer service needs improvement. I ordered a party tray and when i got to the place i ordered a spicy mayo, and the front desk people were saying that was going to be charged 10 dollars on my card for a spicy mayo?? Just because i didn't have a cash. After i ordered a party tray of 60 dollars i couldn't get a complimentary 50 cent spicy mayo??? And the people there were so careless and their behavior and attitudes was so rude, it was giving well i don't care figure it out or leave. I've been bringing my friends, and spend a lot of money in this place. Please do better. Very disappointed. read more

Very good sushi spot. Went with my partner on a date night and had a great time. The waitress was patient and answered all our questions when we tried to get away from the basic Cali roll. I tried raw sushi for the first time and it wasn't bad. We did try some of the Cali rolls and they were great and well balanced. Usually you get a bunch of cucumber and a little crab, but not here. John's Sushi House is brand spanking new to the Fox Chase area so you know I had to check it out! John's took the place of the former Seahouse, which was a Cajun Seafood Restaurant and Bar. I had driven past here for a couple weeks now, and I finally saw an "Open" sign illuminating in the window. Decided it was time to treat myself to some sushi. We walked in through the back entrance, which is accessible from their parking lot. There were only 2 other customers there at the time we arrived, so we were seated right away. As we were looking at the menu, our waitress came over with complementary saké. I had never tasted saké before, and while it was a little too strong for my liking, it was a very kind gesture on the staff's behalf. To start, we ordered the vegetable gyoza. It's hard to mess up gyoza, but these little dumplings were delicious. It was a generous portion, too. Crispy and stuffed with veggies! The Sweetheart roll sounded intriguing, so I went with that and my usual favorite, the Sweet Potato roll. Both rolls were incredibly flavorful and fresh. I loved that the Sweetheart roll was in the shape of hearts. They looked too perfect to eat. The inside of the restaurant was well lit, very clean and spacious. The food and service were excellent. I'd totally visit John's again, and I'm ecstatic that it's in the neighborhood. read more

Who doesn't love a work / lunch meeting over sushi? This was my first time here and my first time ever getting a sushi boat! We started off with hot green tea and edamame For the main event we went with the House Boat for 3 and each got a soup or a salad along with it. The boat was presented beautifully and the sushi was fresh and delicious! My favorite roll was the dragon and favorite sushi was the white tuna. The portion was perfect for us! I left satisfied and full. If anything I would have opted in for a few more apps to go along with it, mostly because there were so many things I wanted to try. Outstanding quality food, pleasant atmosphere, and good service. The architecture of the former Brauhaus works well for a Jaoanese themed restaurant and they've made very good use of space. The tempura was the big winner for us, exceptionally light and crispy and full of flavor. The sushi and sashimi are top notch as well and they have a rich variety of beautifully prepared and generously portioned appetizers. Several hibachi dishes, and some options like French fries, calamari, and fried chicken make John's Sushi House more welcoming for those who aren't looking for traditional Japanese fare. The prices are also very reasonable. We spent the same here for a big satisfying meal with drinks and appetizers for three than we usually spend for two at local done other local restaurants. we ordered party trays for a Monday night pickup for an event on Tuesday at noon. we did this because they are closed on Tuesday. When we picked up the order we informed them it would not be eaten until Tuesday and we wanted to know if we needed to do anything special for best results other than just refrigeration. they gave us a few instructions for the various items in the order which was helpful. Later that evening they called our phone because they were concerned that it may not be good enough, then got the information on when and where the lunch would be and said they would bring fresh items to ensure everything was good. on Tuesday they showed up on their day off with many fresh items, at no additional charge. the food was fantastic and we cannot get over the service they provided!!! way above and beyond anything we have ever seen. Stopped at John's for an early dinner on a Saturday after attending an event in Philly. We had called earlier in the day and they said we wouldn't need a reservation for 2. They weren't too busy when we got there and we were seated right away. Nice ambience and lots of booth seating and some bar seating, as well. Ordered the draft Sapporo and liked it! Refreshing for a hot day but still had some flavor. For starters we got the miso soup, clear soup, edamame, and pepper tuna. All were really good and we finished every last bite. For entrees we ordered 4 signature rolls - spicy girl, crabby party, black jack, and tornado. I particularly enjoyed the spicy girl and crabby but all were delicious. Super fresh and the crunch was actually crunchy! We had to take some leftovers because we were so stuffed and absolutely no room for dessert but maybe next time. Service was friendly and attentive and prices were very reasonable compared to what were used to. Signature rolls all under $15?! Yes, please! Very good sushi with very large rolls at a surprisingly affordable price. I think that the most expensive specialty roll was like $15. We had four mixed drinks, two soups, a seaweed salad, four specialty rolls, two regular rolls, and two desserts and the total was $130, which is a great price for so much food. Atmosphere was nice. My only complaint was the service-- our waitress was very polite, but she was also kind of slow and AWOL for long stretches. read more

Finally hit up this spot after weeks of driving by it. Gotta say that stopping in was definitely the right choice. Place is clean and modern (very different from it's Hop Angel days). Food and service were fantastic and we'll definitely be back! We had the fried calamari appetizer and shared about 6 different rolls which were all delicious. We also had some noodles and fried rice and everything was fire ! So glad to have this place in the neighborhood. It's closer than Ninja (food is just as good if not better) and the food here is better than Mr. Sushi (in my opinion). read more
