I've been going to John about a year now for various garment needs and every time he has answered hemming and alteration requests with an execution leaving nothing more to be desired. We are fortunate to have him as part of our community.

John is a thoughtful tailor who does meticulous work for a very reasonable price. My first experience with his work was a week before a formal event. New to Oakland, I had taken a floor length silk chiffon gown to be hemmed elsewhere. It was a fiasco; different lengths in the front, back, and sides (more than 2"). John took on my complicated, last minute project with a fussy fabric and fixed it in time for the gala. I've since brought more casual wear and two vintage dresses (pictured here). All were finished beautifully. Most recently, John repaired the beading on a 1950's gown and let the bodice out on a 1960's dress with little margin to work with. He's the best!

The Thursday before my wedding I brought John an Indian suit I just received from my brother-in-law from New York. I really wanted to wear the suit, and my mother-in-law wanted me to wear it even more - especially since it was a surprise for my wife. However, the sleeves were way too short and John was going to be closed Friday and Saturday. BUT he pulled it off for my big day. Thanks John the Fashion Tailor. Jason

    My lovely dress!

I bought a dress online that took 30 days to arrive 2 weeks before my event. I scoured Yelp and spent Saturday morning wandering around Oakland/ Piedmont before going into The Fashion Tailor's store. I was scared because he said the lace would make it hard for him to let it out enough, or evenly. And he would not be able to take in the bust because of the embellishment. I was so sad, but told him to do his best. I picked it up a week later and he was optimistic, saying he was able to let it out 1.5+ inches. I just took it straight to the cleaner's to be steamed and pressed, not bothering to try it on. I was so happily surprised when (the night of my ball) I went to put the dress on and it fit so comfortably! The let out seams weren't at all noticeable in the back either. Time (1 week) and price ($48.50) were right on for me. Quality (superb) exceeded expectations! Cash or Check only!

The following months, however, were filled with uncertainty and confusion about when my dress would arrive. With an estimated delivery timeline of 4-6 months, I initially tried not to worry. In December, I was informed that my gown was in the final stages of production, and I paid the remaining balance. As March approached, my family and friends began to grow concerned alongside me. While the responses to my calls and emails were reassuring, it became increasingly difficult not to feel anxious as the wedding date drew closer and our energy and attention needed to be focused on other aspects of wedding planning. We were told that the delays originated with the designer. This is understandably not in their control, but more proactive communication and transparency about the situation earlier in the process would have been appreciated. Ultimately, the dress shipped at the end of April and arrived in early May. Despite this experience, I am still giving Janene's Bridal Alameda 4 stars because of the kind and responsive staff. The alterations team did an excellent job with only about 2 weeks to work with, and every staff member was pleasant. I especially appreciated Jessica, Tiffany, and Mary Ann for being so accommodating, patient, and supportive throughout the process. At one point, I left an item there and the team were very communicative about searching for and locating the item until my return. Most importantly, the business went above and beyond to compensate me for the inconvenience and stress of receiving my dress so close to my wedding date. After everything that happened, I was hesitant to have my alterations done at Janene's, but the team ultimately turned the experience around and made it a positive one. Their excellent customer service and dedication helped make up for the stressful situation. Thank you for making things right and for taking such great care of my wedding dress.

She is such a sweetheart and her communication is great. I met with her in person to go over the basics and get a price quote. Then over the many months she would call to check in, ask for inspirations of what I wanted and asked me to meet again for samples of curtain colors, floral centerpieces, etc. This was all happening during the mist of our tariff issues, and she was very transparent about having some upfront payments so she can lock in the price of a few items she needed to purchase. We needed more centerpieces ordered, we needed to change the start time by an hour and she adapted to all the changes. She is up-front with you that you can change layouts and designs but if you have a theme color change, please be courteous and let her know ASAP in case she needs to make more purchases. The day came and I couldn't be happier with all of her work. She is such a pleasure to work with, I would hands down recommend her!
