Not sure what to feel about this one. I brought in 5 long dresses to hem shorter. The hem lines are very clean, but most of them look uneven. One side longer than the other. I might be trippin. Anyways, I called John to get a quote. He told me to come in and looked at them quickly. 15 bucks a dress (total $75). Then he had me try on the dress one by one and stand on a stool to chalk mark them. He got all of them done by the next day. He told me to try them on before I take them home or try it on at home. And if I wasn't happy with something I could bring it back. He's a very nice man and the hem lines look great but I can't give him four stars because they look crooked. Oh John. If you don't mind the douchebag personality and dick-like behavior, then by all means, take your stuff here to get altered. His work is not bad. However, if you're looking for professionalism and good customer service, then run. Run far away. I came to John to get my bridesmaid dress altered - it needed to be hemmed and the zipper needed to be fixed as it kept getting stuck whenever it zipped to an area that had a thick ribbon that was sewn in at the waist. I brought my dress in with a one-week time frame before the wedding. That's cutting it close, but it was due to the bridal salon misplacing my dress when they ordered it and taking too much time trying to recover it. When I called John to ask if he could make the alterations within a week, the first thing he asked was "Why did you wait until the last minute to buy a dress??" Dude, you ain't my mom. I explained how I didn't wait until last minute, that I was supposed to have a dress weeks ago but the bridal salon misplaced it and now I can't afford the time for them to find it, so I ended up having to buy another one. He made some grumbling noise over the phone and said fine, to bring it in so I can try it on and he can assess what needs to be fixed. When I brought my dress to John later that day, I began to reiterate what the problem was, but he snatched the dress out of my hands and examined it. I was caught off guard and stopped talking. After a moment, he asked, "What is the problem again?" WTF?? If you'd give me a hot minute, boo, you would have gotten your answer. I tried on the dress and John marked where it needed to be hemmed. He then looked at the zipper issue and suggested the ribbon be removed and replaced with a thinner ribbon or other material. I said that would be fine. I asked how long it would take and he said three days and then told me to call him the next day to check in on the progress. Why I have to check in on his progress was beyond me. Maybe to remind him to get his shit done?? I told him I couldn't call the next day because my sister was going to have a baby, but I would try to call the following day after. He said fine. My sister had a baby the next day, however, the following day after that, that baby had to go to the NICU because she momentarily had stopped breathing. You can imagine the panic and distraught our family was going through seeing her little body all blue and being rushed to the NICU. I was in tears all day, praying my sweet newborn niece would be ok (spoiler alert: she pulled through and ended up just fine and is vibrant and healthy to this day). Later that day I get a call on my cell from a number I didn't recognize. I answered it and it was John. He started scolding me, telling me I was supposed to call and check in on my dress. I told him what had happened to my niece and that calling to check in on my dress was the furthest thing on my mind. His response was "Well I waited all day and you didn't call. You asked me to fix dress." I had it by then and told him to stop working on my dress, that I would pick it up tomorrow, take it to someone who wasn't a complete asshole, and ensured him I would still pay for whatever little work he needed to be reminded to do. I then hung up on him. Next day, I went to pick up my dress and discovered it was all done. I asked when he finished it and he said TWO DAYS AGO, aka the day after I brought it in. So I asked, why then did I have to call yesterday - 3 days after I brought it in - to check in on the progress when you had already finished it? And he said "Yeah, you know, I asked you to call and you didn't." I reminded him about my niece and he said "Yeah, oh well. But still. No call. I waited." My husband was with me at the time and nearly punched him in the face for his severe lack of listening and zero sympathy. Did the dress fit? Yes. It needed to be hemmed a little shorter, but it worked for the most part. Was the work flawless? Meh. It was good enough for a short frame of time. Was it worth it? Absolutely not. Had I known this guy would be such a tool and insult my family, I would've gone somewhere else. My recommendation: Palace Cleaners on Norwalk Blvd. & Imperial Ave. in Norwalk. Family-owned business and everyone there is so kind and friendly and hard-working. Rude... impatient man John, had to have a formal dress hemmed and explained what I wanted done over and over again to make sure he understood what I was saying, he assured me he knew what I wanted. Next day we pick up the dress, the inner liner of dress was long and the lace cover of the dress was SHORT!! It looked RIDICULOUS!!! And he OVERCHARGES!!! I don't really write much reviews but I just felt the need to put John's services out there. I been a loyal customer for around 8 years. And one thing about John, he never gives me a set price when altering my pants or shirts. I always have to negotiate my prices down from the last time I brought clothes in to be altered. Prices are constantly going up and I have to negotiate a deal when it's not even a deal. It should be same price as the last time I brought clothes in. I have also recommended coworkers, friends, family, and I still have brought clothes to John and he still does not appreciate my recommendations and still I have to negotiate a deal. One thing I notice if he has to redo any alterations cause it didn't fit right or if he makes a mistake and forgets he gets upset if you bring your clothes back to him or call him out on it. I'll be recommending friends family and co-workers to other places, tired of the constant price increases and rude attitude when I'm not satisfied with the alterations. There's times that he forgot to do my clothes on the day they were supposed to be done and I did not get upset but yet he gets upset when you call him out on it. That don't even make any sense. I would say go somewhere else with better customer service and I'm pretty sure the prices will be cheaper or if not the same. read more

Oh man. This guy. I bought a suit from Express about a month ago. Being a $480 suit (and that's extremely expensive considering I'm a poor college student with a minimum wage job), I wanted to have it done by the best. So naturally I went on yelp and I found John the Tailor. And oh man this guy knows what he's doing. He told me to try on the suit jacket and he showed me different sleeve lengths, different jacket lengths, and different fits. All the while he was asking what I wanted. What I thought looked good. Which fit and style I liked best. Unlike many other tailors who just do what THEY feel looks good, John did it exactly how I thought looked good. And not surprisingly, the jacket came out EXACTLY how I wanted it to look. I originally only went in to shorten the sleeves and bring in the waist. But when he was showing me the different styles, it looked so good I just also had to ask him to shorten the overall length to. **AND AS AN ADDED BONUS** he EVEN threw in sleeve slimming on booth sleeves FOR FREE. WHAT A GREAT GUY. I am extremely satisfied with the service and the outcome of my suit jacket. I will DEFINITELY be coming back, and I will most certainly be sending all my friends to this place. John is an excellent tailor! Not only is he great at what he does, but he's speedy, too! My brother bought a new suit and the pants needed to be hemmed and some adjustments were needed to the jacket. On Monday night he was wearing the unaltered jacket at a fancy event-- and while it looked good, by the time we attended a wedding together on Saturday, his entire suit had been perfectly fitted so that it looked AWESOME!!! First off, I want to say he only accepts cash/check but don't let that deter you from calling or visiting John for your next fitting and I'll explain: Some of the words that come immediately to mind when describing John: -mild mannered -straight forward -patient/tolerant I had a suit and pants that needed work and John told me straight up what to expect and when to expect it, he had me come in the day before I needed them done for test fitting and always left extra material just in case I changed my mind. He remembered me when I walked in without even showing him a ticket and it was my first time ever visiting him. Compared to Lam's Tailoring in Rowland Heights, John is great and I will definitely come back. I can't say I was 100% satisfied with my finished outcome (because I would be lying). I found John through Yelp, and when I saw nothing but perfect reviews, that was already a bit of relief with regard to where I should take in clothing for alterations. I had some (4 pairs) work slacks that definitely NEEDED alterations (mainly being hemmed since I'm short- usually even the petite pants are too long. I also wanted some of them to be more custom to my shape/build). I walked in on a Tuesday, got them back on a Saturday (I told him there was no rush, and he said they'll be ready by Saturday)). John has a friendly, confident demeanor, definitely customer-oriented. He asked me what I needed, so I showed him the pants that I wanted him to work on. One by one he had me put them on and asked me how I wanted each of them done. Again, the hemming was the main thing across all four pairs, but each of them had something a little different in addition to hemming (taper/don't taper the thigh area, bring in waistband, etc). His prices were very fair, and he also does mention his disclaimer to customers that: upon pickup, if you are not satisfied with his work, he will not charge you any extra to make it exactly how you want. His goal is to retain his customers. Again. Great customer service aspect. When I came to pick them up, John had me try them on, one by one to make sure I was satisfied with each pair (which I am). He also showed me how to properly hang them on a hanger to prevent from falling, wrinkling, etc. Considering I'm not (yet) used to wearing business slacks on a regular basis, this concept is new, and his quick how-to lesson was very helpful. To be honest, wearing business slacks has previously been something I didn't look forward to, cause the pants were either uncomfortable, or if they were comfortable, weren't very flattering on me (my opinion). From here on out, as long as John is still in business, I won't have to worry about being discouraged when I have to buy a new pair of (non jeans) pants. He not only made the dress fit me properly, but he did it in a timely fashion (way faster than he promised) even though he was very busy. His prices were fair as I paid $40 for him to let out a dress when another company was going to charge me $100! He is kind, quick, and extremely professional, which is probably why so many other people go to him as well. Would definitely recommend him and will be returning again in the future! read more

I went to John the Tailor to get three pair of jeans hemmed. He was able to get them done within three days. I'm very happy with the results. The hem was perfect and the color of the threading was so close, it was hard to tell it was the original switching. I did ask if he could preserve the original hem. He said he could but it would be twice the price. He said after a few washes, it would look the same. He had no desire to up-sale me on his services. I highly recommend John for your alterations. I visited John the Tailor after finding his information on Yelp and reading some quality reviews in regards to his work. I got 2 dress slacks tailored to match a Club Monaco trouser that I saw at South Coast, but that ended up being too expensive to keep ($179 for decent dress pants?). So I came to John with some more affordable slacks I found at Nordstrom Rack (Santorelli) and Macys (Tommy Hilfiger Trim Fit) but were way to baggy and big for my slim body. I told John I wanted to match the fit of the Club Monaco pant I purchased, with the other 2 pants I was bringing in. To my amazement, he didn't even bat an eye. He took the measurements of the Club Monaco pant, saw the fit, and then said he knew what I wanted, and would get it done. After a minor modification when I came in for the fitting, John delivered an end result that was excellent in craftsmanship, fit, and the price wasn't too bad either (about average). I really enjoyed the fact that John was aiming for me to be happy with the fit of my trousers, and worked to achieve that goal first and foremost. Pretty refreshing from the previous tailors I have worked with. I didn't hear a I can't do this during the whole process, which was also fantastic. This review is about a month late but better late than never! Anyways, John tailored my leather vest because the sides were way too big for my body. He did so well of an alteration that you cannot even notice it; the lines where it was cropped are perfectly aligned. I was referred to John as he's done a couple perfect job for my dad, and with him being about 3 minutes away from where I live I thought I'd give him a shot myself. I was not disappointed. I had three 1950's prom dresses I needed shortened. That means tons of layers of chiffon, tulle, satin, and crinoline. He did such an amazing job. Finished off the edges perfectly. I had a tailor for years that was excellent, however I was sad when I moved to La Mirada because it meant that I would be losing the tailor that knew me best. On a whim, I hopped on Yelp in hopes that I could find someone remotely as good as the guy that I used to go to. Luckily, I found John who was about 5 minutes from my house. I took a chance and took my stuff here, and he totally fixed my pants exactly the way that I like them. He also put some professional looking darts on a shirt of mine.
