We've gone with Johnny Carrillo a few times in the past for water leaks and drain clogs and have always been pleased with their service. It'd been awhile and we got a new clog in our bathtub drain, so we called them and they were quite booked but they knew it was semi-emergent as it was really starting to back up. So they called back and said they could come early the next morning if we could accommodate that. Office staff was very pleasant and helpful. I was on a tight schedule with my kids and work but they came right on time, diagnosed the problem right away (just a lot of hair deep into the pipes) and fixed it quickly. They also just happened to notice that one of the bathroom sinks was draining slowly (which I had not mentioned) so they went ahead and cleared that up as well! 2nd time using Johnny, he's the best! By "best" I mean not just fixing our plumbing problems which he has done quickly and professionally. "Best" means he came after we met with another plumber (landlord request) who claimed the only way we could fix our drain was to cut into the existing pipe to create a bypass to access the clog. I said "no thank you" to that $1,000+ job and called Johnny. He got to the bottom (literally) of the clog and resolved the problem for less than $200, no cutting required. I don't typically write reviews, but I felt like I had to really hop on here and let others know what a great experience I had with Johnny. I'm a real estate broker who was representing a buyer on a fourplex. There were several plumbing leaks and main sewer line issues that came up on the buyer's general home inspection report, and that's when I searched for a plumber in the area to further diagnose these issues and provide the buyer with estimates of how much it would cost to remedy. Johnny was recommended to me by a colleague, and this was my first time working with him. When we met at the property, Johnny was able to diagnose the cause of several leaks under the property in the crawlspace. However, I forgot to ask him take a deeper look at the main sewer line, which the general property inspection report also called out at being at the end of useful life. This was the biggest cost that the buyer had to factor when purchasing the property and also the biggest impact on negotiations with the seller. Although Johnny had a super packed schedule, he was gracious enough to squeeze me back into his schedule again on short notice, and take another look and provide estimates to replace and reline the sewer line. It took a lot of stress away from me because he was able to get those second estimates and proposals back to me IN TIME to meet our negotiation deadlines. Nice guys but you need to have the patience/sanity to consistently follow up and to have someone at home 24/7, because it will take several no-shows/reschedules, showing up hours after they say they will, coming by for 2 minutes once they finally do show and then saying they need to come back, and then going through the whole process from scratch 2-3 times to get anything done. A month's time, several follow-ups/texts/calls to track them down, and a prescription for Xanax is a way to get the job done so make sure whatever you need is not urgent (I've called them for urgent issues too, it doesn't make a difference). Have had to deal with this around several times for different jobs so know by now that it's not the exception but the rule. I've tried to be patient and kind because they are nice people, good about responding on text, seem to be fair/honest with pricing, and apologetic when some inevitable last-minute problem or trouble or glitch comes up that they say is a one-off, but after having dealt with the same ordeal time and time again, unless you're prepared to quit your job or have someone at home full-time waiting for them, it is probably best to go with a more professional service. read more

Scheduling can be a pain in the a$$ because some jobs can take longer than others and in their position it's understandable since they can only give a proper diagnosis of the problem when they arrive on site. Nonetheless, Johnny came through to fix a clogged bathroom sink and it's also fixed the water stopper in the sink because its lever was too long. They didn't have the part in their truck so Ruben had to go to the hardware store & return the next day. Johnny did a great job replacing my water heater. He replaced my water heater quickly and effectively. He did make a little bit of a mess on my carpet while dragging it out; but I have since replaced the carpeting with wood and I mentioned to him that I would be doing so. So it was ok. The price did creep up by a hundred dollars from his original estimate, but not outrageously so like Home Depot (scammers). I paid a total of $1,200 to get a new Rheem commercial 50 gallon nat gas unit. I wouldn't say that that price is cheap by any stretch, but reasonable I suppose - especially considering L.A.'s high prices for licensed plumbing labor. There were two guys working for about 4-5 hrs on the job. My water heater is on the 3rd floor with many steps due to high ceilings, so the job was a little bit more difficult than normal. I originally had called Home Depot to do the job. They quoted me $1.1k do to the job but when their installer came out he said I needed to spend another $3k+ on top of what I had paid Home Depot. He claimed I need thousands of dollars of modifications since my setup "wasn't up to code" and he also wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars extra because of the 3rd floor location. I not so politely told the H.D. installer to get the f*ck out of my house now! Johnny didn't try to bs me like Home Depot did and did a great job. At the risk of never being able to use him again because he is so damn good, honest, kind and a cool guy to boot, I will say you will most likely NEVER come across a plumber like this. He charged a third of what others' charged, he lets you know when he is on the clock so that you don't get charged for time that was spent on chatter, and he does an excellent job. So he gets to work by running the water for 5 minute, he tells me it won't be a quick fix so he needs to come back, either Saturday or Monday... He'll text me. Saturday - 3:50pm text from plumber- not going to make it, he'll come Monday between 1pm-3pm Monday - 3:30pm text from plumber- I'll be his first call Tuesday morning at 8:45am... yeah, we'll see. Had a plumber show up before him, said he couldn't do anything cause he didnt have the part. Charged me $100. Called Johnny, he also said the part I had was a fossil and hard to find but gave me places I might find it. Didnt charge me anything. Then he offered to rig up a temporary faucet with random parts from the car and only charged me $99 for the service. My faucet works now and he was a really great guy. So you can either have a plumber that cant do a hard job and sticks his hand out for payment anyway, or you can have John who thinks outside the box. A+ read more
