Wow the reviews are harsh! Yes the doughnuts are a bit pricey but they're pretty darn good. My husband and I were in the area after having lunch at Shake Shack and dessert at Three Twins ice cream. The customer service was amazing. The guy at the window was incredibly friendly and helpful. There are so many options to choose from but I opted for the Lime doughnut and my husband chose the old fashion maple doughnut. Everything was really good, not knock your socks off good but solid. So I came because I heard they have gluten free donuts from other reviews. They do have one wheat free donut, but it is fried in the same oil. But it definitely was by far the best gluten free option that I have tried. It's basically an old fashioned dough with blueberries and a glaze. Great option if you aren't too sensitive. read more

Great addition to Marin Country Mart. First, Johnny's old fashioned doughnuts are something close to transcendent. Second, this location is great for dog owners. Not only is there outdoor seating, but you order through a window rather than in a store. This is great for me because my dog is the perfect dog for outings in most ways--she's sweet, adorable, well-behaved. BUT, she gets nervous and impatient when tied up and left alone even for a quick coffee order. I also like that, unlike most doughnut shops, Johnny's brings out fresh doughnuts all day, so you can still swing by after noon without worrying that there will be nothing left. My one complaint--the cafe au lait wasn't great. Not worth abandoning Rustic Bakery for, at least. read more

I've been to this location a few times. It is a pop-up, but have a little seating area out front. Having been to all locations, I have to say I like the one on 4th St San Rafael the most, then the one in Hayes Valley, and this one comes in last. All their employees are nice though. But the coffee here is just okay. My husband always comes here for his coffee and a doughnut before catching his ferry. Although on the weekends, we'd much rather go to the one in San Rafael or Hayes Valley. read more

Not sure why their reviews are so low. It's a charming location that feels like an ice cream stand. The donuts are big, creative and tasty. Furthermore and importantly they have vegan options. Usually 2-4 types per day. The vegan donuts are made with sweet potato, and they don't add too much sugar so you could convince yourself they're healthy. If you want to know the cons, here is what I can come up with and these are somewhat nit picky: 1. The price of tea is 3 bucks. Bring your own as paying 3 bucks for a tea bag is tough. I'm ok paying up for the quality donut though. 2. Some woman bought Most of the vegan donuts in the morning leaving very few after 12 o'clock. Since this was an outlier event I think it would make sense to make more vegan donuts for the day as normal demand would not be met. That's it:). So just make sure you don't run out of vegan donuts when there are hundreds of regular donuts on the shelves and we're good ok? read more

We couldn't just get one... over the three of us we got like 7 whoops My favorite and the one I've had dreams about since is the crodough, basically their version of the cronut but they can't use that name cus of rules or whatever. It's crunchy and coated in sugar and connoisseur on the outside, soft and layered on the inside, AND filled with little pillars of custard. OH. MY. GOSH! Other favorites we tried and attempted to share were the apple fritter, the old fashion, and a few flavors of the Bismark (filled with wild berry jam or chocolate vanilla cream.... ) Oh, and I can't forget to mention they have a vegan donut and a wheat-free donut! I overheard someone say you can even get the custard filling in a cup if for some reason you are confused and want it without the delicious crodough. My new favorite doughnut spot ! This has been my go to as I explore more of the Marin and Sonoma County. Their cake doughnuts tend to work out best for me. Staff is super friendly and can offer suggestions if asked. I would say the raised doughnuts with frosting (various flavors) are best eaten warm. Everything is freshly made and super yummy !
