I almost never write reviews, but this was so bad I felt an obligation... I had 1 sprinkle doughnut and a glass of milk... I believe it was $7.00 and some change. It was the worst tasting doughnut I have ever had. I literally spit it out. It was incredibly dense and tasted like it was baked 3 days ago. To quote Kevin O'Leary, "You should take that company behind the barn and shoot it." - This was the Fillmore at California Street location around 4:00 pm. - Sorry to say all this... but they will NEVER make it... Was so excited to try this place out and since it was my husbands birthday and he LOVES doughnuts I thought I'd give it a try. I'd like to first say that the staff (Monday 06/09 at 2:30) was super friendly and knowledgeable about her product. It was 120* outside so I'm not sure how she and the baker were able to stand working with no air conditioning. You could literally feel the heat coming out of the window!! Now on to the important stuff- the doughnuts. Well... I would say more like mini pound cakes. Very dense and not the most flavorful. Not sure how they made them but it seems like they tried to use some kind of different sugar or something. It's a doughnut- come on. This made for a less than desirable bite with a strange aftertaste. Honestly- it's not worth the calories. Too bad!- purchased a box for a morning celebration and everyone thought the exact same thing. We tried the chocolate and vanilla sprinkles/apple fritter/ cinnamon/ lime filled/vanilla filled. BUMMER! The prices were between $3.50- $3.75 a pop! Not the most inexpensive but I would say you are receiving the equivalent of two doughnuts with how heavy they are. Long lines.... And unfortunately not worth the wait. The donuts are mediocre and the price is extravagant. Also even though they serve through a window outdoors, they are still requiring masks for vaccinated people. I do not mind following local and federal health guidance, but what they are asking is beyond what is being recommended and for them to refuse service to anybody who is vaccinated (and outdoors) is over the top. They clearly aren't hurting for business since lines are long so I rather take my money to a mom-n-pop shop instead of this place. read more

My daughter and I have a weekly ritual of going out for doughnuts once a week and she convinced me to try this one instead of our usual spot in San Rafael while some friends were running late for lunch at the Shake Shack. She really, really, loved the chocolate glazed cake doughnut there and would give it 5 stars. I personally thought it was too airy and yeasty-tasting and would give it 3 stars. Pretty face - no substance. These ridiculously expensive donuts lure you in because they're gorgeous, but immediately disappoint upon the first bite. I haven't tried this experiment, but I wouldn't be surprised if these donuts sink to the bottom of any body of water, including the Pacific. In your hand, it feels like you're carrying a small boulder - - yes, they're that heavy and dense! The insides have the texture of sawdust, leaving a bitter aftertaste that stays with you throughout the day. The pretty outside frostings, cheerfully bright, are sickeningly sweet. The workers are very pleasant, but shill too hard for the company, raving on about their wares. The whole setup seems like a cynical attempt to exploit the cluelessly affluent Instagram crowd (the donuts are standouts in photos!). Adorabley cute set-up/layout (50's diner-esque style), but waaaayyyyyy over priced for what the actual taste and quality of the donut offers. Lady at the front counter was very nice. Had the apple fritter and cinnamon roll, and both were very bland, dry, and left an odd after taste. Seemed as if the glaze was made with stevia. I'll stick to the traditional donut shops. read more

Donut was fresh and delicious. I forgot what I ordered but it was an old fashion donut with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon and a nice drizzle of glaze. Like a warm holiday hug. Minus one star because it was quite pricey. Something I'd treat myself to once in a blue moon. read more

Doughnuts are pricy, but they are also very unusual and fairly large (think if the cost similar to a pastry). I am not a doughnut person, but loved the GF doughnut. The doughnuts rotate, with some staples. Fancy coffee can also be ordered from this place. Staff is friendly and patient as people try to make decisions; I like how all of the doughnuts are in the window so I can actually see the items before I get to the register. The checkout process is a little disjointed, so not a fast as it could be. read more

Good doughnuts defiantly different flavors than at the normal doughnut shop. They are good a little dense and heavier than a normal doughnut so it will only take one to get you full. read more

I'll start off with the good- the coffee was AMAZING. It was $4 for a tiny cold brew and cold brew can be really hit or miss.... but theirs was excellent. I'd definitely come back just for that. I grabbed a cake old fashioned as well (which I normally love!) and tbh it was gross. I ended up throwing it out after 3 forced bites because the heavy frying oil really was the only flavor that came through, which was super disappointing because this place's presentation was so darned cute. Excellent doughnuts, excellent staff, excellent mission. Could not love this "doughnut joint" more. Have taken many a family member here and they're always impressed by the different kinds of doughnuts to select from... gluten free, peanut free and vegan too! Some personal favorites include the maple bar with coffee in the glaze, (OMG), the apple fritter with real apples, anything with the strawberry glaze on top and their sweet potato raised. The doughnuts look amazing, but the maple glazed old fashioned doughnut is Dry and not very flavorful. The crunch is good, but more like bread than a cake doughnut. Be sure and buy a drink to wash it down. read more

I was literally the last costumer of the night... they held the window just for me. Few things hit quite like a doughnut... usually overly greasy and sweet to the max... I usually opt for a fritter, old fashioned or cruller. The visual sampling was limited to old fashioned and fritters, but I know my nuts... These nuts were big and substantial, you can tell theirs something exquisite about them by their less than uniform shape: their variance in gloss and intriguing textures added to the appeal. I selected with my eyes first. "I'll have that one." I pointed to one of the "wheat free" it was a fritter for sure... the first smell eludes to fresh apples and browned butter. No lame compote for these fritz. The texture had some pull and chew to it. Giving a reward with every bite. The grease was minimal: a mild oil was detected, but only on the outer lacings of the dough... no deep penetration slogging the belly. Maybe what you'd expect from the place if you're a Bay Area resident, not me though... I'd put these nuts up against any of the high end LA selections. read more

Their staff is nice and welcoming. I read previous reviews and now I agree. The donut is pretty heavy, physically. I only had two and I told my husband if I hit him with the to-go bag, it would probably hurt. I felt like I was getting an arm workout. I do like dough but it was like eating a cake. I am not a cake donut fan. I was experimenting so the orginal glazed and a cronut were my chosen samples. The taste was there but all that thick dough was unpleasant and I stopped eating. I needed a softer dounut. I know how Krispy Kremes are too soft and can be squished like a pancake but there are other donuts that have a little more give than these. read more

I want to love them but they are so thick and heavy. Not your classic donut although it looks like it. Sometimes they taste stale. I often eat the top 1/2 of the donut as the bottom half is just heavy thick bread. I just think their recipe for donuts just isn't good.
