Wowza. Having gone to the Mall of America since its inception, I've never seen it as busy as it was today. The like to order food at Johnny Rockets was very long, but moving quickly. We scoped out a booth that had just been vacated and asked if we could sit there. The waiter, Danny, was quick to clean the area and promptly took our order. One of the two Diet Pepsis was not delivered and it took quite awhile to receive it. We ordered a couple of burgers and a fryThe burgers were good, although the mushroom Swiss burger was overwhelmingly saturated in onions (which I normally love) but it made for a slippery mess. The French fries were extremely plain and needed a lot of salt. My daughter's water cup looked like a baby shark took a chunk out of the brim. It was very noticeable, so I'm unsure how it ended up in the rotation. The paper plates the burgers were served in left little room for anything. The best part was watching person after person attempt to occupy a booth that had just opened. So many reviews express frustrations not being able to sit at a table with take our out orders. The restaurant could do a way better job at expressing the rules for eat in meals/tables. It definitely would have saved Danny from having to constantly explain himself. First time coming here, wanted to grab a bite to eat, overall this place was on my bucket list because of its retro feel. It was okay for what it was worth. It's a bit pricey and kind of a rip off too... They got juke boxes at the table that don't even work. Overpriced food with no meal combos. Johnny Rockets has been one of my favorite restaurants for years and years, however, I have had the worst experience at the location at the Mall of America! We ordered our food and then a CP came available in the dining area so we decided to switch. They said no, you can't switch, and then refuse to service after we sat down! This is the most agreedious policy that I've ever heard of in my entire life, and I refuse to come here ever again, due to the fact that their service was so rude! They need to fire their host, sta, and try again! Did I mention that the woman behind the counter yelled at me and refuse to give me her name and I asked for it! Egregious!! read more

Food is good. Service not so much. We arrived at 11 when they should have been open and it appeared only 1 person was there. We sat off to the side to see how this was going to play out and over the course of 20 min, the rest of the employees arrived. When we finally sat down, there were like 7 employees in the kitchen but only 2 appears to be working. Our server was attentive but the background was really slow. It appears this seems to be the theme with other reviews. The food was good. We both had burgers and shared a fry. Fries are unseasoned but that's easily fixable. I went here after a track meet in May. Everywhere I looked, it showed that the restaurant was opened until 9:00pm so I went to order food as it was around 8:35pm. As I was approaching there was a guy who just finished ordering his food. I went up to the self-order and one of the workers come up and says, "We're closed." I tell her that online, the mall directory, and your website say you're open until 9:00pm. She said, "We're closed." I ask, "So you're not going to serve me even though you are suppose to be open until 9:00pm." This lady did not want to serve me but everyone else working (the cooks and other staff) went against her and told me to go ahead and order. So I went and ordered and I can hear the lady who didn't want to serve me going off about letting me order. I wanted to walk away but had already paid for my food. I submitted feedback to Johnny Rockets Corporate regarding this incident and have yet to hear anything from them. This shows me they don't care about their customers and don't want to resolve issues that have been brought up. I needed to update my review after today's phenomenal experience! I ordered the chicken burger for the first time... the chicken club...it was PHENOMENAL! The chicken was cooked to perfection, the bacon was thick and crispy and oohhh so good, topped with a fresh and juicy tomato and crispy lettuce...on toasted, sourdough bread ...just AMAZING! The sandwich was HUGE so my mother and I split the sandwich which was conveniently cut in half already...and we brought home my mom's order of the "original" burger...which I guess we'll split that for lunch tomorrow! The service was friendly, attentive and excellent too! I was given a bowl of ketchup to dip my yummy thick crispy amazing American fries. Again, a phenomenal experience. I LOVE Johnny Rockets! The staff and service at Johnny Rockets in the MOA are so remarkably horrendous that I just literally downloaded Yelp so that I can remark about the "remarkable" service (or lack thereof). I literally stood at the register with no one in front of me for three full minutes without anyone acknowledging my existence. I love the food so much that I would hate for people to be turned away because the employees make the customers feel worthless. To be fair, this was my 3rd time back after bad service. I gave them 3 chances (thinking maybe that person is just having a bad day). Was at the Mall of America for a week after sleeping in a storage closet unnoticed. Decided to head out of my closet and find something decent to hold me over until I switch to living at the airport bus stop. Come to find out my fathers restaurant Johnny Rockets was located near the closet I stayed in. I only had 6$ with me and was able to purchase a chocolate shake. 10/10 would stay in that closet again and 9/10 would get the chocolate shake again. read more

After paying for my over $20 burger fries and drink and insulted with a spot to put a tip on the receipt, I sat down at their counter to wait forever for the food then was rudely scolded that I was not allowed to sit even though all 10 seats were open. The food was just ok but after being raped over the cost of the food then couldn't sit to wait for their slow service, I will never return to this place. On a side note, I went to another Rockets in LA and they didn't even know where the bathroom was so I could simply wash my hands of all the filth in the place. Once I found the bathroom which was a 10 minute walk away, required a code, and was filled with homeless people, I should have learned my lesson then but assumed it was just disgusting LA. I have now learned my lesson, never go to Rockets ever again unless you hate yourself as much as they hate their customers. read more

***This Johnny Rockets is located in Mall of America's food court; I am not a big fan of their food and I think this location was a fairly accurate depiction of the quality that most of their locations serve; their chicken club was okay though slightly too much bread; some of the fries served were limp while their onion rings did not have a good color and were all batter and very little onion; their dark chocolate malt had a good flavor, but it could have been a little thicker; the biggest negative here is the service; while the staff works hard, their kitchen is too small for the big mall crowd, which results in long waits*** Mall of America has its own free parking structure. read more

I went here and was waiting for them to clear the garbage off the table so I could sit down at a comfy booth instead of the steel chairs (IM 9 MONTHS PREGNANT) so while I was waiting for the lazy server who was standing there doing nothing, I stood in line and then ordered my food. The cashier asked me to repeat about 4 times each item. Which whatever. He was rude too. My order wasn't complicated. Then we sat down at the table after he finally moved the garbage and he asked what we wanted so I said we just ordered. He said "you need to leave then." Wow! I'm super glad I came here instead of the other restaurants around MOA. The burgers here were super good - fresh and juicy. We sat in the little booth and enjoyed playing with the little jukebox. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, I could tell she really enjoyed her job. I ordered the Route 66 - basically a Swiss mushroom burger - with fries and onions rings. Boyfriend got the Houston, which had jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. Both were super delicious! Grilled perfectly even and charred, juicy and a good size burger for what you pay for. I went today at around 1:00 PM and it was the most hectic thing I ever saw. I did the "take out for food court" option and it took about 10 minutes of standing in line to order. They gave me a buzzer for when my food was ready and that took about forever and a half to go off. It's fun to pull up a stool at this diner and listen to some throwback tunes. Johnny Rockets has pretty good burgers. Watch the grill cook whip up the never frozen beef patties and toast the tasty buns. We ordered the half fry and onion rings, they were lukewarm and not very crispy. The shakes are tasty. I like to order the fountain Coke with a splash of flavor. I am a Coke girl so I am happy it is one of the 3 places in the Mall of America that serves Coke. Another favorite is the apple pie with melted cheddar cheese on top. Yum. I'm just thinking about the flavor combination and delicious crust right now. I have been to Johnny Rockets in other locations and they are ok. This is the first time I've been to the one at MOA. There were three seats at the lunch counter which was exactly how many we needed so we opted for those instead of taking it out to the food court area. It was fun to explain to my daughter how the jukebox worked. You just don't see them very often. :) Started with bacon cheese fries. Pretty sure they weren't good for me... but they tasted pretty decent. I mean how can cheese and bacon on fries not taste good? I went with the "Houston" burger. Basically a burger with jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and spicy sauce. As you would expect it was a bit spicy but it did have a good flavor. The burger was juicy. The bun was pretty fresh tasty. All in all a pretty good burger. And of course... we had shakes. One chocolate peanut butter and one chocolate banana. They were exactly what I would have expected. Good, flavorful hard ice cream shakes. The service was decent. I wouldn't say it was the greatest service I've ever had but it is a "fast food" place and they were pretty friendly. I would say this restaurant is pretty pricey for what you get. To be honest though... you're at Mall of America. What do you expect? Of course the food is pricey. We eat at Johnny Rockets all the time. The seating options are convenient - you can choose to sit at the counter or in the food court area (overlooking Nikelodian Universe). They have a retro jukebox where you can playoff school music for 5 cents per song. The spicy Houston turkey burger is the go to sandwich because it offers the right amount of spice without overpowering the other flavors. They also serve tasty sweet potato fries and desserts (Malts and Milkshakes) to compliment your burger. I thought the food was really great. However, the ability to recognize a customer seemed non-existent to this restaurant. Literally, three feet away from the cash register my daughter and I were overlooked four times by servers and staff who looked us directly in the eye a handful of times. I asked twice politely who could help us. Still no one came to give us a menu or take our order. How this restaurant stays in business is beyond me. I've worked in a half dozen restaurants and this place has no real sense of customer appreciation or recognition. It was only after we were on the verge of paying for our bill did "management" surface to inquire how things were. Because I was with my daughter I chose not to be incredibly rude. I just stared in complete disbelief. Our waitress forgot half our order. All in all, the only saving grace about this "restaurant" was the food. Congratulations chefs... you won me. However, the next time I do come back Id be more interested in tipping the cooks and telling management you do a better job at ensuring people don't come back - than return. I work hard for my money and thought this would be a great way to treat my daughter to an amazing meal on our vacation.
