We used to eat here a lot but the past 5 or 6 time we have ordered anything from there it has come out completely burnt . my wife got a hamburger steak and it was so burnt you could not even cut it with a knife without it crumbling apart she sent it back and we heard the cook clear as day tell the waitress that if she didn't like the way it was f--king cooked she needed to go somewhere else . so we ask to speak with the manager and she said it would be addressed . so we just canceled our order and left cause I have heard of things being done to people who complain there by one of there employees . we WILL NEVER go back . if I wanted to be treated like trash and eat bad food I would have stayed married to my last wife read more

This restaurant had a sign on the door about two weeks ago said masks required. They did a pretty good job . Tried again to eat at this restaurant and now the required mask sign is gone. We will never get back to normal if we do not protect and respect each other. Wearing a mask not only respects those that work at the business but also respects the customer. the costumer service was horrible it took them ten min to refill my damn sweet tea and there was only 2 other people in the restaurant beside me and my family so no excuses. i watched the cook take a chicken tender off a plate and hand it to the buss boy , there were kids working in the restaurant , the servers where very rude and running around the restaurant like it was a zoo , and the words they were using i didn't seem like a child friendly restaurant , the buss boy threw his sucker into the water they use to wipe the tables just very gross restaurant. read more

This was by far the best barbeque around. How this is not on the same caliber of Lexington bbq is a mystery to me. I ordered a BBQ salad and it came out with that smokey yet sweet flavor. This definitely a hidden gem I'll be sure to find again. There were 6 of us in the party and the check came out to 53 dollars. That's less than 10 dollars a person!! Wish I could give 0 stars. I've been here twice and had the same exact experience. Customer service is terrible. I can't stress that enough. It seems that if you are not a regular then you're not important. The second visit my waitress literally sat our food down and walked away. Didn't say a word. Very strange. Food was edible .... can't say it was yummy. The worst part is they do not accept debit or credit. What??? As a business owner myself I agree those 1-3% CC charges do suck but geeez I'd rather pay that than turn customers away. CC fees are tax deductible. Best thing going in rockwell for breakfast. Cash only , but they have an ATM on site. Place could use a big cleaning but that's the bbq I guess. Food pretty good , again I do recommend breakfast. Plenty of parking important because hwy 52 is very busy. read more

I don't like Johnny's. Not even a little bit. But I have to give a 1* to comment. Service is awful. Food is not to good either. No debit. They have an ATM that charges $3.50 to use. This place is like dealing with a thief. I bought 2 one pound container's of barbeque. One container had 13 ounces, the other container only had 10 ounces. I had stopped going there to eat because of quantity of food on my plate, and the deceitful way they had of preparing the appearance of the plate. They put the slaw on the tray then the barbeque so that the slaw is under the barbeque. This gives it the appearance that you are getting equal slaw and barbeque, but really you get very little barbeque. I was surprised that they figured out how to cheat me when I buy it by the pound. It averaged that I was cheated more than 28 percent of what I actually paid for. This is no different than paying for a gallon of gas or milk and only getting less than 3/4 of a gallon. I called to place an order and was put on hold for 10 minutes. Poor service and poor staff.

At 2:00 on a Wednesday not many customers but we still have to wait 35 minutes for our food. A burger and a grilled chicken. Amazingly the food was not even very warm when it arrives. Was very expensive and they only take cash. read more

"Seat yourself" but no sign saying so. It took about 5 minutes before being addressed by the waitress even though it wasn't busy. Very high price for seafood, but obviously frozen fillets. There are some good priced items if you look very carefully. Fish was unseasoned and bland, with typical frozen crinkle cut fries from a food truck. Dense, hard hushpuppies. Edible but not great. Unfriendly staff that seemed like they didn't want to be there. Go to Lexington BBQ for the real deal. Also, they don't take cards! This is 2015 people, and this is a newer restaurant! read more

Over the past couple years we have went to Johnny's less and less frequently. On one trip about 9 months ago, we ordered and after about a 25 minute wait they discovered that they had lost our order. We went recently only because my husband likes chicken livers and Johnny's has them... not anymore. Was told the new owner had removed some itms from menu. 2 of their Sunday menu items ( meatloaf & country style steak) were unavailable at 5 pm. So we ordered a flounder dinner and a burger from our gum chewing waitress. The bun for the burger was so old and dried out that the bread was crumbling into little pieces. With an $ 11 fish dinner i received 2 1/2 hushpuppies that were cold and about the size of half a pinky finger. i saw other plates brought out with many more and larger hushpuppies. When we paid and were asked " if everything was ok".. we told the cashier about the problems and she just grinned. We have marked this place off our list. read more

I love going here! There BBQ is okay, but the best is their fried pickles! While I know some people don't like fried pickles, if you do, Johnny's has some of the best! I would definitely recommend! Their homemade chips are pretty good too! I've never had a problem with service either. read more

Can I give it zero stars!! Will not ever be back I would choose McDonald's over this place and I don't even eat McDonald's. Waited over an hour and never received our food. We were never updated on what was going on, but yet everyone else around us had their food. When you see a 2 year old that is getting upset after an hour at least offer to bring their grilled cheese out I could have waited on mine, but you can't even acknowledge I have a starving 2 year old after an hour! Customer service is terrible, when a manager doesn't even come out to explain things to you that's a problem. I have been coming here for years and the quality now is terrible, didn't even see the normal waitresses who always took such great care of us. If you want good old fashioned BBQ go down to Gary's BBQ in China grove nc. I worked here at johnnys bbq for about 2 and a half weeks they touch all their food with their bare hands no gloves what so ever if u get a hot dog the slaw and onions are put on my hand I did not once see them wash their hands. And if you happen to order a BBQ sandwich or tray while they are preparing the meal they will snack on your own food they will touch the raw meat with their bare hands then without washing them they will put on lettuce tomatoes etc. On your burger with the raw meat still on their hands. They had a bathroom in the back of the kitchen after the employees were done they never washed their hands after using it. I am never to eat here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Food is still good here, but number of wait staff on duty has dropped, thus the service has dropped. Tonight was busy and no one refilled our drinks while we were there (about 60 minutes). My salad came with a half inch of water in the bottom of the bowl. I ordered a baked potato but received fries. When I informed the waitress that I ordered a baked potato, she said "oh, we are out of baked potatoes", no sorry or visit to ask if I wanted something else. Also beware this place does not take credit cards or debt cards, but there is a ATM machine in the restaurant that will conveniently charge you a fee to get some cash. read more

We always go here for the great fish, in the evening. Not only for the food but service. The very first time we went for breakfast, we'll let's say we will never be back. We ordered our food, my plate 2 eggs om, livermush, grits tst. While placing our order I said to our waitress please make sure the yolk isn't cooked. Husband ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of co. Ham. When the food was brought out, my eggs were cooked completely through, husband's food the gravy was the last of the gravy, so thick as it had been sitting for days. Our waitress didn't write on our ticket what was specifically asked. So the food went back, she then brings me my plate back that had my livermush and grits and said go ahead and start on this and I'll bring your eggs when there ready. REALLY? So nicely I said I mix all 3 together. She took that plate back. When she brought the plate back, my eggs on one, my plate with my livermush and grits. I put my butter in my grits, it would not melt. I had big lumps of butter that would not melt because my plate had set in the window waiting for my eggs to be cooked correctly. My husband did not eat due to the way his food looked. So I ate some of my eggs and cold livermush. She asked if she wanted to get something other than grits, we'll let's see waitress of the year. I told you how I ate my food so No.... ran out of coffee many times and they were not busy. As we go to pay we tell them of this horrible dinning experience, the waitress then comes to the register and says he sent his food back and did not eat, but she ate her eggs so charge them for the rest. We asked for the manager and or owner our waitress said im the owner's daughter. Well we will Never be back and as for the waitress you really need to learn customer service and if she handles other situations as ours you will loose many customers. So my husband watched as I ate my food that was cold and sent out in 3 separate ways...... get some better service in there dad is all we can say, or at least a manager who knows how to handle situations correctly especially when your waitress is the reason your food came out wrong in the first place, but would not speak up about it, so it wouldn't show her mistakes...... I have been to Johnny's on several occasions. the place is great as a sit down place, the atmosphere is casual and friendly. It seems as though everyone that was there was a regular i.e. the warmness of the place. if u go, go between the lunch and dinner crowds cuz most days they are packed. my first time i was impressed that even as we pulled in, people were waiting outside just to get in the door. that was my first clue that I was in for a treat btw don't even try to go on Sunday after church they r slammed every time. We ended up sitting @ the bar/counter which i actually really enjoyed! it reminded me of an old diner with a big open window to look back and watch the kitchen staff make my food and the waitresses buzzing all around. All that was needed was old jukebox playing oldies and would have sworn i was back in time. It has the realness that a place like steak n shake just can't have. the food was great and even though it was a packed house we got our food in good time. i had the all you can eat alaskan, and the rest of my family had everything from bbq to crab legs...and i must say that they were all really good, the crab legs were good quality that u could taste( if u like crab legs u know what i mean) i liked their bbq it was tender and juicy...i've had bbq @ other local places but they were terrible...porky's in china grove the bbq was mushy, and gary's has always tasted bland to me. i think Johnny's is even better than Wink's the supposed king of bbq (yeah right) but anyway...between the 4 of us we had large sides of fried pickles (yum) sweet potato fries, okra, green beans (with pork yes!!) and best of all homemade chips... and if u do go just be warned if u sit @ the counter u get to stare @ the desserts, the carrot cake is better than I've ever had, and they have a choc pie with a brownie crust that is a chocaholics dream. the even have the old b&g pies if u want to take them to go...they have daily specials and the ribs on thurs is something to see!!! then on saturday they have slow roasted prime rib for only $15 thats better than the $25-$30 stuff u get down in charlotte or up in winston. One thing to keep in mind...they only take cash...but have an atm if u need it...some people don't like cash but personally I do so I hope you go and experience what is one of in my humble opinion to be the best variety restaurant in the area.
