I'm torn between a three and a four star review. In the past, I would've given them a 4 to 5 review and I honestly can't believe I haven't posted a review before at this restaurant as it had been one of our favorites for years and a place we frequent when at the shore. I recognize menus change, but I'm guessing the chef changed as well. So many items are called the same name as they were on the previous menu yet they are not same, like a shadow of its predecessor. I will say the cowboy steak was amazingly prepared and delicious. If I was reviewing that alone it'd be a 5 star review. Our waitress was nice but I definitely got the feeling of disappointment when we didn't order appetizers, we prefer to order extra sides and drinks which more than make up that in the end. Just some people don't and it sucks to feel like you're not a table worth waiting on. The saddest experience was the dessert. The sticky toffee dessert was my favorite thing in the world. It was fabulous. It's still on the menu, but it is not the same dessert by any stretch of the imagination. It now tastes like someone cut the bran muffin in half and poured some sugary sweetness on it and then served it with clotted cream that was not tasty. It used to be a tiny dessert that came with ice cream. It was so rich and was beyond delicious. It is actually a challenging dessert to make, so I'm guessing they've changed to this new version to save time but honestly they should just take it off the menu if you're not going to do it properly. If that plate was served on Top Chef and they would've crucified the chef as it looked and tasted horrible. Have a member of our party who is disabled, pointed this out to the untrained hostesses and we had to guide our friend up three fleets of narrow stairs. Extremely poor front of house. Only gets better...worse, Our server was untrained, most likely smoked up, drink order was off, took some time to return, finally got our order in. Wanted to get to a event at Caesars, 10:00. They did not put our order in! Two hours Lost ticket, the manager came up and lied, said the server fell on the way up the stairs. No, did not happen the incompetent server did not put our order in. She came back with round of drinks, think they were supposed to be gimlets, now why would she not just bring us what we were drinking to try to make things right? They sat untouched. About to go out the door when they dropped off the steak and lobster, no, will not accept and put with this. Terrible management and servers, what part of service am I missing? Almost forgot the hostesses, diner quality. Conclusion, avoid this place, over priced, over rated and really bad staff, from the hostesses to the servers to the management. What a nice spot in Atlantic City! I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night and boy oh boy is it busy! You'll definitely want a reservation for this spot. There is valet and a little bit of self parking for cars but plan accordingly as it is a small parking lot. My server, Elizabeth, was incredible. We could only get a 4pm reservation so we snatched it up. The bar and second floor were packed when we arrived. They have a small lot and valet parking. The restaurant is a large old house. You have to walk up the stairs to get to the floor you're dining on. We were taken up to the 4th floor and had a great view of the ocean. Omar, our waiter and everyone who helped us were great. Drinks are reasonably priced. They had a good wine list at $12 a glass. We started with the calamari- light and crispy and not chewy at all. Sliders were medium rare with cheese and onions. Everyone loved the thick cut bacon and Cesar salad. We ordered multiple filets and the pork chop for dinner. The filet comes with broccolini. They were cooked to perfection! Came in from Brigantine for dinner last Sunday night. The restaurant has valet which makes driving there a breeze. We didn't have to wait long for our reservation. The dining room upstairs has a very old medieval vibe. It was an eclectic crowd dining there. Carmen, our server, was very friendly and helped make menu and drink recommendations. We each had a bowl of soup to start. My husband said the french onion was one of the best he had. I enjoyed my corn & crab chowder. For mains, I went with the halibut per my servers recommendation. Unfortunately, the dish missed the mark. It came out cold and rubbery./ tough - it was clearly overcooked and then sat there for a while before being served. I sent it back and even after it came back out 5 minutes later warmed up, it still didn't taste very good. My husband and I finally went to the third of the Dougherty restaurants Knife and Fork in Atlantic City for their fabulous happy hour and we were not disappointed! The happy hour is daily from 4-6 pm, we got on line right around 3:45 or so to make sure we scored bar seats, and we promptly ordered cocktails! We ordered up a High Roller Manhattan for each of us then we had to get the star of the show.. their INCREDIBLE Seafood Sampler for two amazingly priced at $56! Seating is set up on three floors of the building so if you have mobility issues, be sure to tell them when you make a rez. The three salads we had we huge and delicious. We doubted we would get in, but we completely lucked out and got two seats at the bar, which is our preferred way to dine. My husband and I came here for a Thursday night dinner while in town. I wish we were seated upstairs as it is a beautiful old building with a unique charm! People were sitting at the beautiful bar watching football as the ambiance of the whole place feels like a storybook-- warm and cozy. There were couples on date night and also large groups.... We didn't see any kids since it was a later dinner. The Duck Confit was cooked to perfection and it was melt in your mouth delicious. For Valentine's Day weekend, my wife and I dined at the historical and exquisite Knife & Fork Inn on Friday, 2.13.26, since the 14th was totally booked. It was her first time there and mine since childhood. The menu was so extensive that it made it a bit of a welcoming challenge to focus on a particular choice. For starters, our huge portion of the Corn & Crab Chowder was the best that we have ever had and the Artisanal Cheese Plate was delectably wide-ranging. My wife loved the Halibut and my Bone-In Pork Chop was superb. Our cordial and diligent waiter, Carmen, who took service to the next level, suggested the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert and we were very glad that he did as it was perfectly sized to share! There was a Nice size bar when you walk in. The service in the private room was pretty good. The food came out in the appropriate amount of time. Apps- the charcuterie board had a nice selections of cheeses, the crab avocado app was good but needed more crab, and the sliders were a hit. The steaks were not cooked to temperature as ordered but everyone was still happy with their dinners. I had the tuna from the dinner menu- the tuna was cooked perfectly and served over vegetables and rice. Sides to share for the table - Brussels sprouts, mushrooms and scalloped potatoes. We hadn't been back to Knife & Fork in a bit. It's still the same, always consistent and popular as ever considering it was a Monday night. They have a good menu wiith some old classics. Appetizers- Beef carpaccio-tasty but light on the beef Crab n corn chowder Caesar salad Entrees Lobster Thermidor Halibut Dessert Banana crème pie It was a nice dining experience. Knife and Fork Inn has been on my radar for years on end. Last year we were shut out because of Restaurant Week. Im that girl who knows what she's most likely getting before I even step a foot in! I love risotto and most places don't make it correctly. I knew this fine dining establishment would! The risotto was cooked perfectly and it was chock full of seafood! Crab, scallops and shrimp. Succulent! Lovely atmosphere, sweet as pie server, and a fabulous dining experience overall! My girlfriend's Caesar was really fresh and tasty. Of course we didn't have room for dessert. I regret not looking at the selections though. There's an upstairs but that is for dinner guests only. Superb superb superb !!! read more
