After hitting the drive thru a bunch over the years, I finally dined inside for the first time ever. Aside from them having a drive thru or ordering at the counter and the service being super quick, this place is notches above any other fast food you're used to. The whole dining room and bathrooms were super clean and the food was even better because it didn't take the ride back to my house with me and I ate it fresh at one of their booths. We were bummed that they were out of pulled pork at 7pm on a Saturday night, but it happens and we mixed it up with some different sandwiches. Menu items are kinda at a higher price but atleast you are getting value for your money. The burger was huge, more meat than bread and very well seasoned. We went to lunch here on a Sunday right after they opened. The cashier was very friendly and quickly took our order. We sat in a comfy booth and were surprised when our food came out not long after sitting down. It was brought out by two employees, one of whom was the manager. Oh my Gosh, I just ate one of the best hamburgers I have tasted in a longtime. It reminded me of the old mom and pops hamburger joints back in the 70's. Very flavorful, the cook on it was perfection. Hugh Baby's is fairly new to Charleston, but they're already a big hit. For the first few weeks, the drive-thru was backed up and the parking lot was slammed. Now, they are open every day of the week, and service was near perfect for us. My husband tried the shroom and swiss burger. While we were waiting on our food, he noticed a computer monitor displaying food images and thought the smoked turkey club also looked good. Their marketing worked, and he soon got back in line for a smoked turkey club. He thought the club sandwich was the better of the two, as the turkey is smoked and thick sliced. I had the fried catfish sandwich and fries. The catfish sandwich was crispy, hot, and the flavors of the coleslaw and pickles enhanced the flavors of the cornmeal-breaded fish. I do not eat beef and was happy to find so many non-burger options here. The fries were fine to accompany a burger or sandwich, but not the reason why you come to Hugh Baby's. I dipped mine in Comeback Sauce and that made them a bit better. All of our food was hot when it came out, and the prices here in line with fast food, but freshly-prepared and much better service. Plus, the dining room is clean with attentive staff who bring your food to you very quickly. Their smash burger, especially the Shroom and Swish Cheese smash burger with added jalapeños was off the chain for me! The fries was hot, crispy, and 2 orders of fries were generous portion to share for our family of 5. My picky eater kids ate their burgers like a champion and inhale the vanilla milkshake like their life line! They also have veggie burger for vegetarian out there. Was finally able to try Hugh Baby's; two prior attempts ended in a discovery they were closed. Today they weren't very busy at lunch; walked right up to the counter. Staff was friendly and food ready quickly. Inside looked clean, with a few tables available. As for the food, the single cheeseburger ($6) was very tasty with the crispy edges on the meat patty. The chicken sandwich was also really good, just smaller than I expected for the $6 price (smaller bun and patty vs the burger). I added the tomato and onion from the burger, which made the chicken sandwich even better (maybe take a hint Hugh Baby's). The pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw was good, just lacked sauce (thankfully I asked for extra before leaving), but again was on the smaller bun and I wouldn't say worth $5.50 just for the sandwich. The coleslaw was honestly kind of invisible, but still a good sandwich. I didn't find the fries to be anything special, just normal thin cut fries (not crispy like I prefer). Overall I enjoyed everything I got today, and will definitely go back in the future, but maybe next time I'll stick to the burger and chicken sandwich, might try a hotdog. read more

West Ashley's new smash burger joint is small but unique, and is a much needed addition to the area! My husband and I had been wanting to try this place, so we went for dinner around 6:15 on a Friday night. It was super packed and we waited in line for about 15 minutes before we reached the counter to order. The wait didn't bother us that much, but it is a smaller place and I felt like we were in the way wherever we stood. I ordered the BBQ burger and my husband ordered the double cheeseburger and opted for 2 orders of fries. Surprisingly, we found a table right after ordering. There are plenty of signs asking for you to wait to grab a table after ordering your food instead of hijacking one, and it does run pretty well so don't fret! I'd say the food came in about 10-15 minutes and was very fresh. The BBQ burger was solid, but the double smash cheeseburger was where it was at. The burger was juicy and had some crunchy bits on the end overhanging the bun- so good. The fries are thin and crispy, but not overwhelmingly amazing- I'd still say it was needed as a side for the burger. Just make sure to stock up on napkins! Overall, I think it's a great addition to the West Ashley area for a solid and consistent smash burger. Both the parking lot and the inside are small for the amount of business they were cranking out, so keep that in mind- or they have drive thru and carryout options. Yes, we were among the hundreds (maybe even thousands) who tried The Chuck's newest "local" QSR, Hugh Baby's, on opening weekend. If their popularity grows, HB is definitely going to need more parking spaces. We stalked a few eaters and parked in about 5 minutes. HB has MANY of your favorite bar food classics like burgers, dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches at a VERY reasonable price point. We gladly tried our faves, the burger, pork, chili dogs, and fries. The menu's star (and best value) is definitely the pork sandwich. BIG smoky flavor that stays with you for 1-2 hours; we simply loved the sandwich. We'll be sure to order extra barbecue sauce next time. Toasted buns are a NICE touch that HB brings...to the table [wink]. You can even see the grill marks on the dog buns. Bae got the Shroom and Swiss burger and loved it. HB's burgers are in the In-N-Out lane/style and well executed. Ordering is simple and intuitive. Wait in line, order, grab your number, step to the left, get your drink, sit, and wait for the runners to bring you your food. Staff works together well and handled the opening avalanche as best they could. We'd love to see HB open up a second register, offer a better french fry, and (please) consider onion rings. All these upgrades would put their efficient QSR model (which we completely get) over the goal line. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many five star reviews on here. We stopped for lunch. The burgers were extremely greasy. So much so that the wrappers were completely drenched in grease. We wrapped them in paper napkins and gave them a good squeeze to soak it up. Needless to say, I think we used about 20 paper napkins each. The fries were very skinny and hard.
