It is with great honor and pride to write a review for Trusty Auto Shop. Trusty auto shop is owned by Chris, an experienced and well-known mechanic around Corvallis. I first met with Chris when I brought a 2016 Dodge Charger SXT where he did a spoiler install. He did such an amazing job, I threw a huge task on him: I asked him to install a Procharger system for my scat pack, route and wire my color changing headlight kid modification kid, install a new grill kit and modify one to allow for a sensor fit, put on my new wheels and tires, conduct an oil change, and tune the car. During this challenging task, Chris treated me like family. Many times I walked into his shop and the whole team always addressed me by my first name. I was able to come and see what was going on with the car and what was wrong whenever issues would arise. Chris acted as an advocate for me by calling numerous companies to answer questions about their products and is always educating himself. Everyone around ti own who knew my ride was at Trusty's knew it was in good hands with Chris, his reputation speaks for itself. There is absolutely no one else I would trust with my car than Chris, his family, and his team. The e amazing customer service, large amounts of knowledge, and heart put into the vehicles is the reason I will continue to return. My experience with Trusty Auto Repair was bad. I would not recommend them. Summary: * Poor communication and customer service * Work was done without quoting a price or getting my OK * A used part was used in the repair without telling me in advance and without giving me the option to go with a new part. If there had not been a problem with the part, I would not have known about it until I picked up the car * Took three full days to complete work * REFUSED TO TAKE MY CREDIT CARD BECAUSE I "HADN'T BEEN NICE" AND MADE ME PAY $1740 IN CASH TO GET MY CAR BACK. I made an appointment a week in advance (they don't seem to be very busy; they had openings every day of the week) and dropped my car off at 8:30 AM, as agreed. I waited for a call; after 4 hours I called and was told that they hadn't even looked at my car yet. They said they would call back in an hour... an hour and a half later, I called again and learned that they had gone ahead and done a brake job ($275 parts, $180 labor) without quoting me a price or getting my OK. They diagnosed a sound I had been hearing as a bad ball joint and steering knuckle, but because they had started so late, they had to keep my car overnight. The NEXT day, no call from them. I called at 2 PM for an update. They said they were still waiting for a part. At 4:45 PM, Chris the owner called and said that the used part they had received was damaged and unusable. OK, that can happen, but again, if they hadn't wasted half a day, maybe this could have been resolved by now. BTW, this is when I found out they were putting a used part in my car. They kept my car for a SECOND night. The THIRD day, no call from them. I called at noon and was told they still didn't have the part, they were expecting it that afternoon, but my car might not be ready until the following today. I was upset and said they should make my car a priority as they had already had it for two and a half days. The guy at Trusty said, "there's nothing we can do." I said, sure there is, you can tell me that as soon as the part comes in, you will install it because I have been waiting so long. Nope. At 3:45 PM, Chris the owner calls me and tells me that my car is ready - BUT I will have to pay cash. When I asked him why, he said, "you haven't been very nice". When I picked up the car, I asked if he was requiring cash as punishment for complaining about the poor service. Chris just smiled - I'll take that as a yes. He certainly didn't deny it. Chris told me that he has had a lot of problems with people paying by credit card and then telling their credit card company to withhold payment because of a problem with the service performed. That is certainly a red flag - "a lot of problems" with people saying that Trusty Auto Repair's work was not acceptable. That has to make you wonder. Banks don't withhold payment lightly. Fortunately, I was in a position to be able to pay $1740 in cash - if you are not, you might not want to take the chance that Chris won't like your attitude, either. There are a half dozen other repair shops in Corvallis that can do the same work faster, certainly no more expensive and without having to worry that the owner will hold your car ransom because you had the nerve to speak up about poor customer service. I will be using one of them from now on, and I recommend you do the same. read more

I'm a traveler in an old class b rv and these guys were cool enough to let me know that they couldn't get to me until next week, but then went the extra mile in just being good people to look under my rig to make sure I wasn't leaking brake fluid to let me know, according to my reporting on what my brakes were doing, that I should be good to get to Portland and the larger market to find someone with a more open schedule. We got an estimate to replace the windshield wiper pump and made an appointment to get it fixed. I called a couple of weeks just to confirm they would honor the price given on the estimate and if we can wait for the car to get done on the day of the appointment. The guy (I wish I had gotten his name) said it depends on what cars they get that morning if they can get to them to fix or not. I asked if even with an appointment that should be my guarantee as a customer that they would make time to fix my car SINCE I actually have an appointment. He said no because they can get swamped with cars to fix that morning and so it would depend on that day. I listened to him in silence while he extensively explained this to me as I tried to make sense of this in my head. And I couldn't comprehend it. To me, it seemed that's what an appointment serves is you're making time in your day to bring the car in and for them to honor that appointment time that was set aside and agreed by both parties that you would then be able to make the time to fix the car. He repeated himself with his explanation and I reiterated what I understood once again and low and behold that's what he said. I couldn't believe it. I told him to cancel the appointment since I couldn't be sure on their end that they would fix my car! And I need my car fixed. I mean isn't this why people make appointments!?! Whether it's an appointment for a dentist visit to fix your tooth, a doctor appointment or hair or to get lab work done etc..... in my neck of the woods this is how it's done. read more

Wheely-dealy. I was quoted $600 for a tune-up. I was charged $840 a few days later without being kept in the loop as to the status. This is illegal as far as I know and, at best, a glaring oversight by an established auto repair shop. I brought this up with them - they didn't seem terribly sympathetic. It seems as though they worked hard in trouble shooting the issues. The employees seem down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and personable. The worrisome thing is that they failed to communicate the overcharge. This gives mechanics a bad reputation. read more

-0 review! I took my car to Trusty's and my car not ONLY came out worse than before and cost $800.00 BUT had to be towed back to the shop the next morning from my house. Shop owner punched my husband in the head and smashed his iPhone, it is no longer operable. My car is not operable. We took our car back to the same shop for the fact that we had hoped the business owner would actually live up to the name of his business "trusty". When I can learn how to get the video off Facebook and onto my phone I will put it here as well. I own a cab company in Corvallis Oregon. I have two rather pesky minivans in my small fleet. My minivans are old. Chris, and his mechanics are keeping my fleet running well, cheaply. With all of the things I have to get fixed putting 500 miles a week on my vehicles....I think you might be able to trust this recommendation. Chris, the owner of Trusty Auto Repair.....IS TRUSTWORTHY!!!! He's saved me thousands of dollars on my cabs. To you, it could be 50 or 300 dollars. Trusty saves you money.....AND his team looks over your vehicle to see if anything else may go wrong! "Well they are looking for more money so you take the car back!" The critics say, Yeah, That's what I thought too. Here's what Chris said about a motor mount issue. "It's not a big deal now, you have time before it NEEDS to be fixed, but it should get fixed within a month or two". He placed it perfectly, 7 weeks later, I had an issue. His team did it very cheap. This shop definitely lives up to its name. I have been bringing my cars to Chris for years. Some of the work he as done for me have been, radiators, timing belts, oil changes and most recently my headlights for my Acura. His prices are very fair, and his work is exceptional. Trustworthy and hard working shop. My daughter goes to OSU and has taken her car there twice for immediate necessary repairs, a leaking head gasket and a new alternator, and they have come thru. Prices are fair and the repair work is top notch. I have spoken with the manager, Chris, and he is honest and BS free. Only fixes things that actually need repair! I had my car brought in for what I suspected to be a thermostat failure. We also said that one of the belts probably needed to be replaced. The mechanic ended up replacing three of my belts instead of just the one I said needed to be replaced rather than leaving the others there to snap so he could potentially make more money off me in the future. I thought that was awesome. Trusty Auto Repair definitely seems like an honest establishment that won't price gouge you like other shops. Out of all the quotes I got on just the thermostat, Trusty had the best deal. They also didn't charge me for any diagnostics to make sure that that was the problem while other shops told me they had to tack on an extra $60-$90 just for the diagnostics. I definitely will be coming back if I have any auto problems in the future and I will definitely be referring my friends here. read more
