Love John's and it's always a treat. Great chargrilled taste. Crisp and fresh lettuce, onion, tomato. Not overly dressed with condiments. Perfect. If you add jalapeños to your burger, make sure you can take the heat. They're very generous with it and seem to add fairly thick slices covering the entire surface of the burger. If you're looking for a fancy craft burger place...do not come here! BUT, if you're looking for a "down-home" burger joint that reminds you of the burgers you had as a kid...COME HERE! I was in Livermore for an appt with my dad and he brought me here for lunch. From the outside, I was thinking "uh-oh." When we got inside I was still thinking "uh-oh." It's very retro...meaning I don't think it's ever been remodeled since the day they opened. But that is the charm in this place. I'm assuming the owner was behind the counter. He was SO nice! We sat at the counter (they also have a small dining room with booths) and ordered our burgers and fries. From the counter I watched our burgers being made...the 1/2lb burger was double meat & double cheddar and the produce that went on the burgers was fresh & crisp. When I bit into my burger it was absolutely delicious! It brought back memories from when life was more simple and burgers were the bomb! Juicy & full of flavor and melty cheese...so good! The fries were cooked just right, and they come out unsalted...but there's a salt shaker at every seat so you can put as much or little as you like on your fries. I've lived in Livermore my whole life and have driven by John's Char Burger countless times. After seeing the great reviews, my family and I finally decided to give it a shot! We ordered 3 char burgers, fish and chips, fries, onion rings, a shake and a malt. The burgers were great! The burger itself had a good flavor that you won't get at a chain like In-n-Out and the veg was super fresh. The fish and chips came with salad AND bread, a solid meal. The fries and onion rings were also delicious. They don't salt their fries, but do ask if you want salt and ketchup when they give you your food. My family actually preferred it that way, and honestly I didn't think the fries really needed the salt! Lastly, the shakes and malt.. Perfectly creamy. A great addition to the meal. I called and ordered pick up a little before noon on a Saturday. They answered the phone promptly, took my order, and gave me a wait time of about 15 minutes. The person who took my order was super patient and kind as well! When I arrived, it was busy and there were a lot of people in the parking lot eating/waiting. I had to wait a little longer than the 15 minutes but I was totally fine with that given the crowd, and it was worth the wait! I would recommend you call in your order ahead of time if you can. We did takeout of course and everything was packaged nicely with labels on everything so we knew exactly what was what. (They were also nice enough to put my things in a box so I could easily take everything to my car since there were 2 bags and drinks) I can't believe this was only my first time, but I will certainly be back. So folks in my neighborhood on Nextdoor were raving about this place, so decided to give it a shot and man do I have regrets. Paid close to $40 bucks for 2 burgers, frys, onion rings and 1 shake and 1 root beer float. Ordered a single patty char with grilled onions.
