    Tortoise

This is an awesome family run business with heart. Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable. We purchased a tortoise and entire set-up. They took the time to explain everything we need to know to care for our new pet. You definitely feel the personal touch you won't get at the big expensive stores. They also have a wide variety of birds, fish and reptiles and everything you need for them. Can't say enough about this great little shop.

Enter from the rear of the building - the front on Florence has bunnies.

Found this little gem of a store looking for a local alternative to driving out to Lancaster or Chatsworth just to pick up cracked corn and grit for chickens. Even with Google in hand it wasn't exactly easy as they relocated a few doors down the street next to, of all places to have as a neighbor, a polloteria (bring your kids and teach them a little about life all in one place - what's the difference between the chickens in this store and that one? Well...) But for those fortunate enough to be housed within John's side of the building life is quite safe and comfortable. They have many different birds ranging from a few conures and lovebirds, budgies, and finches, to furry exotic bantams and sturdy leghorns, both adult and day-old. A replete inventory of imaginable bulk grain supplies, minerals and supplements, and many tools of the trade. Along with the birds, John's also has rabbits, hamsters, mice (pet and "feeder"), many interesting reptiles and amphibians, insects (again, pet and "feeder") and a decent freshwater fish and plant section. Some are display only pets that happily just reside on-premises, so it can be like visiting a mini zoo for the newbies. This is not a PetCo. You won't find exotics that shouldn't live here in So. Calif. (e.g. pac-man frogs, yes, cane toads, no.) The inventory pretty much sticks to stuff that works and helps the animals thrive and not the stuff that serves mostly for decoration. If you're looking for a specific breed or variety, it's best to call ahead and he can usually source what you're looking for with him a week. Parking lot is a narrow driveway from Florence, but you can easily enter the lot from the back by turning down Crockett Blvd and entering from 73rd St which is how the delivery trucks get in.

Rhode Island Red Female baby chicken

Picked up several baby chickens. Was happy to find a place that sells a variety of baby chicks: - Rhode Island Red - Plymouth Rock - Leghorn - Araucana The feed was $0.75/lb and they also sell red bulbs to keep them warm. I ended up buying a 75W for my 6 baby chicks and they are adjusting nicely. I will definitely keep going back for more as they get older. The staff is very knowledgeable about raising chickens so feel free to ask questions such as how high to place your lamp depending on qty and strength of your lights. Tip: We brought our own box but they happened to have extra today. Take a small box with you just in case. Cut out some holes the size of a bottle cap for proper ventilation. This way you avoid brining the poor chicks home in a paper bag.

    Ask the Community - John's Feed 2

Do you guys have little chicks for sale?

yes they do. they usually have 20-30 baby females and 15-30 males . they range from $2 -$6

Hey how much would everything cost for a baby chick like the food the chick?

the chick by it self is $6 and the food is about 8 dollars so around everything probably will come out as $16

    Do they sell baby chicks?

Yes, several kinds; both layers and bantams. Pre-sexed and 2-7 day old. Ranges between $2-5/ea depending on rarity.

    Do they sell ducklings?

Usually on special order (doesn't cost extra) they do ducklings. I've seen a number of ornamental 9-month ducks on display awaiting their eventual owner's pickup. Just bring in a photo or two of what you're looking for and John probably has a source…

As he was wondering about looking at the creatures, the desk clerk came up and told me, "there are many kids who come here with conditions like your son but can you watch the kid because he is getting in the way of the other customers." He was directive and sharp and so I complied and apologized following my twelve year old's lead who was just very curious and excited to be there. As we stood in line to pick up our items and pay, Although we were waiting in the front of the line, he quickly attended to another customer who was not staying in the line. I asked him we were here waiting for the turn first. He then acknowledged us and said that he was sorry and then took our turn. Today, I think that experience was dominating me when I found out that an item we needed for the dying reptile was missing. I want to extend my apology to the attendants who helped gather a few things which I believed that they left it out by accident. All is good with me but I wish that there was a bit more sensitivity for the children who walks in with special needs and how you address the parents because sometimes kids are exfoliating their curiosity just to be bewildered by the creatures you have. I was surprised at the clerks lack of emotional sensitivity calling kids like that but after all, that is why they are there. We are there to support the local business and most of all, our kids love that business .

This review is mainly for the petsitting & dog walking because we decided that was the best service they provided us. Just a quick note on grooming -- They only lost one star because the grooming wasn't entirely up to our standards. After our grooming visit, our dog experienced some temporary skin irritation on her back - possibly from dryer burns, hard brushing or just an allergic reaction to a shampoo used. Also, her hindquarters were clipped awkwardly, although that one may have been my fault for being unspecific in my request. Our dog and cat seemed like they were well taken care of on all the occasions we left them in this company's care. It was clear that our dog loved them. Our cat is sort of a snob, so who knows what he's thinking, but he did seem as content as usual when we got home. Tammy was our main sitter/walker there and our normally shy dog adored her & her little dog. Sometimes we'd run into them in the neighborhood and Star would get super excited to say hello. That says a lot! Also, the company was great about communication, before-during-after, provided easy billing, set up easy key exchanges and they were always pleasant & gracious. It was also nice that our home was always clean when we got home and everything was in its proper place. We recommend their petsitting & dogwalking services to others in Glendale. And we wish we didn't live so far away now so we could keep using them!
