I made an online grooming appointment for my mom's Maltipoo, Camila. My mom is a senior and speaks very little English, so I thought this would be a convenient and reliable option for her. Unfortunately, when she arrived for the appointment, they refused to groom Camila, stating they needed to "build a relationship" with her first. This was confusing and frustrating, especially since this requirement was never mentioned during the online booking process. This is for VETCO... at this location. Know to show up early. It's a whole scene. But this is a good way to get your puppy vaccinated. They still have someone come and try to do an upsell... but actually I was happy to get my little baby micro-chipped so, I was in. The vet there was caring and kind and gave me good advice. The vet also didn't do any of the upsell and seemed to get that this is a clinic so she was giving solid advice without trying to sell. Much appreciated. I just lost a senior dog and spent thousands of dollars on care so I'm definitely trying to find more budget-friendly ways to get this new puppy situated. VetCo clinics are good and you should book in advance and know what you need done and be clear what you can and can't pay for. No complaints. I really wanted to have a positive experience at Petco's grooming salon, and while I can acknowledge that they did a good job overall, I was truly disheartened to find marks on my dog's inner back leg that looked like she had been either scratched or pinched by something during the grooming process. This was our first time taking her to a professional groomer since rescuing her two months ago, and it was supposed to be a reassuring and gentle introduction to proper care. Instead, it left a bad impression not just for her, but for us as well. The last thing we wanted was for her to associate grooming with discomfort or fear. I went here a couple weeks ago for my dogs annual vaccines and made the mistake of coming on a Saturday. Even with an appointment, I waited almost 2 hours to get seen by the one veterinarian they had there. No chairs to sit down, it was just a horrible experience. Petco is a national chain store that sells food, supplies and over the counter meds for most pets. VETCO is the clinic part of Petco which offers Veteranary services like vaccinations. Vetco operates at select locations and has limited hours and appointments are needed via online. This VETCO is inside Petco and has free parking in their lot. Last weekend, after a wasted trip to Sinai Center Animal Hospital, my Yelp search suggested I try this location for a veteranary appointment for my furbabe to get the Leptospirosis vaccine to prevent from contracting the canine flu which has been the current outbreak. If your dog is active and social with other dogs, it's highly recommended. VETCO has my account on file for my furbabe. We've gone to other locations: Doheny Drive in West Hollywood and Westwood Village. This La Brea location was able to accommodate me and my furbabe got her needed Leptospirosis vaccination. The current vet: Dr Harris and her vet assistant wore face masks and gloves and sanitized the surfaces. This tiny clinic is small and not fancy, but not divey. The vet was professional and nice to me and my furbabe. Additionally, the cost was reasonable and they keep all medical records which can be accessed online, so convenient. Recommend! read more

I think this Petco is my new go-to place to get my pup groomed. After another last-minute cancellation from another big-box pet store (see in my other reviews) - I've had enough. Furiously checking all the stores online, I saw that every local place was booked up. I decided on a whim call this store to see if there's an opening to possibly do a last minute reservation groom for my dog. (He was so stinky and itchy). Thankfully, I was able to score a spot and drop off my dog same day. Jessica and the team to the rescue! I was able to check in my dog (Clifford) and a few hours later, I received a very handsome and stink-free dog. He was well loved by the entire grooming team. First of all, I came on time for my dogs appointment and her groomer Viviana wasn't done with previous dog, when I asked how much longer she said about 45 min and that my dog can wait in the kennel ⁉ I took her back home (since I live close by) and was waiting for them to call me whenever they ready for my dog. Even tho I made appointment 3 weeks BEFORE, BUT that's not the reason why I'm writing this review. My dog got a bath and no haircut since she already has short hair. When I picked her up she seemed happy and smelled nice. But when I got home I noticed that back of her front leg was tiny bit reddish but it looked more like she got some kind of pimple. Didn't think it was a big deal. And now, few days after, her both legs turned red, it looks like some kind of rash This is not cool, I took my dog AND PAID for her to get a bath and look cute NOT TO HAVE to take her to the vet cuz of you guys. read more

I went to renew a flea/tick medication (3 month supply); which was written in July at this location (Rx are good for a year); was told they didn't have refills written on the account, I pointed out, I didn't need because Rx is good for a year--and clerk should speak to Vet to confirm. Vet willing renewed the NexGard, but was told all they had was a 6 month or 1 year supply. I agreed to purchase the 6 month for 158. (non taxable); when I went to the cashier to ring up the barcode coupons, there was an additional coupon charging 5.99 (taxable). I asked what this extra charge was. The cashier said a vaccine/hazardous waste charge. I told them I wasn't getting any vaccines, just aFlea/Tick Rx renewal. I went back to Vetco staff member who told me "It's a tax of the Rx" I countered, Rxs are not taxable by law. Her response was " Our supervisors told us we have to charge that". THIS IS FRAUD. I did not buy the medicine there. I called Vetco--but there customer service center is overseas with no transfer for stateside issues. This is a serious matter of Consumer Fraud, Vetco/Petco. Investigate your own practices and change accordingly. read more

Just had a bad experience here with Katherin. I booked online for an appointment for my dog today for "bath and haircut", which starts at $59 + $6 material fees and I assume tax and tip added later. The first red flag was when Katherin said that they can't shave my dog because she is double coated. Pretty sure my chihuahua mix is single coated, but I let her check my dog anyway, and after brushing her fingers across her fur, she said yes, your dog is double coated and we can't do any shaving. Which, okay that's understandable if my dog was actually double coated. Was she just uninformed about dog coats or too lazy to do a body shave? Who knows. Second red flag, and the bulk of my irritation, was that she was insisting on up-selling me the $24 essential plus package that I did not need or want. I saw on the bill estimate that she had included the $24 essential plus package to the bill, which I asked for it to be taken off because I didn't want the upgrade. She insisted that the upgrade is needed because the upgraded shampoo was needed. She asked for the age of my dog, which I told her was 8 years old, and said that my dog is still a baby and needed the special shampoo. Really? 8 years is closer to senior than puppy. But maybe she heard me wrong and thought I said 8 month instead of 8 years. We'll just give her the benefit of the doubt there. But she was really just trying her hardest to upsell me on the package because she told me that the basic $59 I'm paying for doesn't include any "scissor work" so my dog won't be trimmed. At that moment, I was just thinking that I want a haircut for my dog that I didn't fact check her and reluctantly agreed. After letting my dog into their care, I walked to the store part of petco and looked online to see what "bath and haircut" really included because it did not sit well with me that it didn't include scissor work. Lo and behold, "cut and style" is definitely included in "bath and HAIRCUT" package. So I went back and told her this, to which she said my dog needed a nail buffing because her nails are long (which, did she even look at my dogs nails after putting her back there?? Cause they weren't long; I just trimmed them myself yesterday). I told her I don't need my dogs nails buffed or balmed or for her to get her teeth brushed. I'm just here for a haircut. She told me she was uncomfortable washing my dog with the deep cleansing shampoo because it will be too rough on my dog and it'll dry her out. I told her I'm fine with regular shampoo since I wash my dog with regular shampoo monthly and she's fine. She insisted she's uncomfortable, so I left with my dog because I was not comfortable paying for upcharges that we do not need. And petco, is your regular shampoo so terrible for dogs that it'll dry them out and be too rough for dogs to handle?? If it is, why is that being used??
