Paula is a lifesaver. I had mistakenly put way too grey of toner on my already bleached, overprocessed hair. The end result was an absolute mess of orange, grey, and GREEN. This happened to be the night before my birthday. I had high hopes for John, because he's located pretty close to my house and not too expensive. But I'm going to have to find someone else. I went to him a few times, and the first couple of times it was fine, but the last time he cut one side of my hair A WHOLE INCH SHORTER than the other! My hair is a little difficult because it is somewhat curly, but it is really a huge difference. It's even really noticeable when I put it in a pony tail! The way he has handled it has not been great either. I didn't notice until I got home, and I didn't call him right away because I had family in town for Christmas. Then I got nervous that he would make it worse when I asked him to fix it. When I did leave him a message asking him to fix it, he offered to fix it the next afternoon, but that was a Wednesday, and I am a teacher who can not easily take off work. I have to write sub plans! (I also feel like if he were really good he would remembered that I've talked a good bit about being a teacher, and I've only made appointments with him on Saturdays.) So I tried to make an appointment the next Saturday with him, but he couldn't do it. Then he stop responding to my voicemails. (I don't think he ever just answers his phone, and he doesn't have an assistant or secretary.) So I guess now I am going to have to pay someone else to fix his mistake. I've been in Beaverton for a year. It's always difficult finding a new stylist when you move. I haven't had the best of luck finding one until now. I picked this place solely off the pictures here on Yelp! And Paula did not disappoint. She did an amazing job and really listened to what I wanted. It's not the blonde that I em for originality but it's because I have really really dark black hair that it usually require a couple bleaching process. I bought a Groupon this morning for the Hair Station on SW Pacific Highway [haircut, deep condition, style, & full highlights for $59]. I got in with Whitney same day, within 1.5 hour! Being a heavy yelp relier, I was worried that I got in so quickly & they hadn't had any yelps. But boy was I wrong to be worried! Whitney Wilcox did an amazing job & exactly what I had asked for! She recommended I do a final toner to tone down the brassiness. It was only $10 extra with an additional deep conditioner shine glazed paired with the toner. She is the best stylist I've ever had! And no joke, I'm a stylist connoisseur to the point I avoid stylists until absolutely necessary. Whitney is a hairstyling goddess! When you first drive by, The Hair Station looks like a hole in the wall. One of those places women fear if they love their hair. You don't go back alley when dealing with hair, esp dry, damaged, curly hair. I knew I was in for either an amazing surprise or the exact opposite. I opened the door & it was beautiful! Great ambiance, fantastic music [no harsh rap, but definitely relevant mixed with retro classics] with amazing sound fidelity [not too loud but definitely discernible], & warm cozy retro feel with smiling faces. I was greeted by Whitney, the one who looks like Bell from Beauty & the Beast. She was spunky & obviously loved her job. I told her I had a Groupon, I bought it about 1.5 hours prior. She said that don't worry, I'll do you fantastic! I immediately felt at ease. Usually when I use a Groupon for a service, the employees tend to begrudge & gripe about how cheap people are. Whitney was excited to get publicity & assured me that the Groupon's purpose was to make the world more beautiful, one coiffure at a time. I sat down in the chair, flourished with apron/gown & Whitney made sure to thoroughly understand what I wanted to the tiniest detail. First foils were done & she was very careful to protect my scalp & damaged ends. If you've been experienced with highlights or any hair coloring, you know that most stylist put you under those alien style hair dryers to quicken processing. Whitney is not your average stylist, she is a color artist. She knew without having to be told that rapid heat application to hasten developing only damages hair. She let me sit with this fantastic wrap until the processing was perfect. Next was rinse & deep conditioning shine treatment all over my plumage with a heated herbal neck wrap, it was soo cozy. The conditioning treatment left my hair soft, moisturized & with a healthy shine [something my hair hasn't had since I was 13]. I felt like royalty! The owner, John, came out & gave a spriteful hello & dazzling smile. He wanted to make sure I was getting just what I wanted. He had some good one liners & a happy manner about him. He told me how he's had the salon for 28+ years. We talked about his wife's career with marketing & all sorts of fascinating topics. John obviously is very invested in his clientele & especially their happiness with their hair & beauty needs. Finally came the cut & styling. Most people with curly hair know that if you cut your locks while wet, you can't ensure you curls will fall together nicely, causing frizz & an unbalanced mess. Whitney reminded me to uncross my legs to prevent an uneven cut & then towel dried my hair to coax my natural curls out before bringing out the shears my hair. Once she saw the curls, she lovingly sculpted them into the perfect wave & curl combo. Styling was wonderful, scalp massage & regular length checking with both her fingers & myself with visual cues put me at ease. She gently blow-dried my hair followed by using a guarded iron to achieve Sandro Botticelli [painter of the Birth of Venus] style loose curls. The results were something I never thought I'd see until I grew my hair completely out & chopped off the damage. I'm so thrilled & I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer! At the end Whitney gave me a warm half hug & handed me her card with all the salon info along with her personal cell phone number on it for emergency appointments. She was fantastic & I highly recommend her! If you're nervous about going to the Hair Station, do what I did. Get the Groupon & test the waters. Always ask your stylist [new or previously used] about his or her strengths & weaknesses within styling & all aspects of what you want. You can be sure Whitney will not up-sell. She's a good honest stylist with just the right flair to turn humdinger dull into multi-dimensional awesomeness. Go to The Hair Station & ask for Whitney Wilcox, you won't regret it. New to the area and had my hair cut by John for the first time a few weeks ago. Great guy. Listened to what I wanted, executed my requests, and at the end, when I wasn't fully pleased with the results, he went back and did some touch-ups that addressed my concerns. He was friendly but not chatty to the point of distraction, and he was clearly a perfectionist, paying close attention to detail. I am a low maintenance girl. My preference is to spend no time on my hair--no dyes, no products, no irons, no blow dryers, I just wash it and let it do its thing. While I am single and without children, the "young working mom" look is goals for me. In the past, stylists haven't exactly listened to me, and I have walked out of salons with cuts that were more high maintenance than I wanted. I'm a simple gal with simple requests, and John was able to take those requests and give me a great haircut that works with my lifestyle, for a very affordable price. I should've walked out when the appointment I scheduled over the phone had mysteriously disappeared. Thinking it was a mix up, I was told to wait about 30 minutes, which turned into almost an hour, then proceeded to get one of the worst haircuts ever. I would not like to leave a bad review for a shop, but for two stars, I think it's already more than what I think, I've done my hair almost half year ago, The reason why I want to leave one review right now is I really want the other customers think about this before they go, I was attractive by the yelp picture from Paula, it make me feel excited to get my hair done in this salon, and I make a called for appointment, asked about the budget for perm and color. The answer for that is 150-200, so I decided to go. And I showed one of the pic from what they post before in yelp and want the same style (for sure I make the appointment for the hairdressers who done the picture) But since I get in, I want to curl perm my hair and also want color it, then the hairdresser tell me I can not do them both on the same time, so I choose color my hair and cut a little bit . After they done, my original hair color is Asian black(I never dye my hair before but lots experience for perm) it like highlighting the top or a handful hair has a little color, it's ok, then the hairdresser used a hair iron to curled my hair, and took a picture(I know it's gonna be a advertisement post for yelp) it's pretty after the hair iron curly(which I can do it at home and will be gone after wash or even 2hours later) After My hair done, I need to pay $200 for that, I leave a tips for her, cause the hairdresser is nice person and other people worked there is pretty nice too, but what I think truly is pay $200 for highlight my hair like that, and my friend even my husband nobody can notice there is any different with my hair, it's too much for that, unworthy Bad experience for this first time dye my hair, and I also drive an expensive uber to got there because I am so excited for the salon, but seems I over expected read more

This was a hole in the wall. I decided to try in based on pictures online, but I'm not convinced they are actually photos of actual clients. My appointment was with Paula. When I arrived, her kids (grandkids?) were having snacks in the waiting area. I sat down so Paula and I could discuss the highlights I wanted to have done--very basic--just a partial, light blonde highlights, with some medium warm brown low lights. She had a very heavy accent and was having a really hard time understanding my words. She kept asking me to repeat myself, then she would repeat what she thought I was asking for and was just way off! I tried several times to explain what I wanted, and it just was not getting communicated. finally I decided I should just leave before my hair got ruined. When I went in about a month ago they had no record of me ever having made an appt. The staff working found an appt at 1pm 2 hours later so that was a relief, as I was going to a wedding the following weekend. I had a color correction and highlights done. Told the lady doing my hair I didn't want to much taken off maybe an inch or two and she gave me layers and cut off about 5 inches. It's only hair and it will grow back, however I was rather upset with the length and the layers make my hair look fluffier than it already is because my hair is curly. read more

After having a way too short haircut, I waited far too long for another cut. I finally HAD to get a haircut. I called the Hair Station and was able to get in the very next day. John, the owner, was super friendly and accommodating on the phone. When I got there, John sat with me for a few minutes while I told him what had happened and why I was a bit "gun-shy." I told him I liked to ballroom dance and wanted hair that moved but wasn't too very short. He listened attentively and we talked about and agreed upon his plan for the cut. He did an absolutely beautiful job! I was in and out within 45 minutes and have never had such a nice cut and blow dry. (And it was only $35.)
