1/20/26: Brought a pair of my wife's shoes to get the heel tip repaired. John's wife looked at them, and told me that they would be easy to repair. I left both shoes with her, to ensure that the tips would match. Ten days later, I stopped by to pick them up and the shoes looked like new. Awesome craftsmanship, and this is old school service at it's best. I was very satisfied with the repairs, and will continue to support this small, family owned business. This is my second time using this repair shop. I'm disappointed in this second time because I've waited at least a month for a pair of dress boots' heel bottoms to be replaced. Went to the shop twice & they were not finished. Called once, they were not finished. Arrived today and they could not find the boots!! I described the boots to the owner, he & another person still could not find them. I waited approximately 30 mins only to be told that the boots were not finished!!! The (unfriendly) wife finally brought out the boots. No apology, thank you or show of appreciation for waiting so long for the job to completed or for the business. I expected at least a small discount, but was charged, I think, an unfair (overpriced) amount. read more

I don't know why John's has negative reviews. He is a small shop that does great work. Sure he didn't answer every phone call when I called to check on the progress, but he seems to be a one man shop and has to keep business moving. He quoted me 2 weeks for the work to be done and because of the ice storm it was about 2 weeks and 2 days. He repaired the heels and put new soles on my boots and he did a fantastic job. The shine that he did upon return made the boots look brand new. I will be recommending him to anyone who needs to get their boots repaired. And the price for all of it was a very affordable $85, ill take that over a new pair of boots any day! read more

This was beyond a horrible experience. He ruined my boots and didn't even work on one of the parts he promised. I even had to bring him my own insoles - and they weren't even fastened in when I picked them up!! When I asked for a refund (a partial refund) he yelled loudly at me and said he would only give me money back if he could keep my boots. I am so upset. Two others were in the shop with me and were very displeased with the work he did on theirs as well. We all said we would never return. The shop is filthy and they do filthy business. Avoid at all costs - such a bad business owner. You could tell by the way he is defensive that he gets feedback like this a lot. Horrible customer service. I ordered a knife sheath, he stated 2 weeks to cut and sew. it's going on 4 weeks. He told me to stop checking on progress they will call when they are ready. If he has too much work he should stop taking on jobs he cannot complete. He talks to you like you're bothering him. You ring that bell and he does not come to take care of his customers. I took in one sandal for repair. The leather had begun to split. The shop was very busy. This is an older, well established place. I'm assuming I talked to John. He told me how he could reinforce it and what he had to do to do so. So I knew there would be quite a bit of visible stitching and there was. But he matched the color of thread with my sandal and it looks fine. I'm very happy with the workmanship. It looks like he has a lot of customers that must be pleased with his work as well. He's also bilingual for the public. It's a small shop and easy to miss. There's not a good sign out front. The pricing was fair. It was to take a week due to his workload. I didn't get back right away but I had my ticket. There are signs that you have to have your ticket. There are also signs that he only takes cash. So be prepared. It was a good experience and if I need more shoes repaired, I'll take them back to John. read more

Had the displeasure of seeing what job John shoe repair off Garland Rd does not do to repair my sandels. Left them over two weeks and they weren't even ready when I was told they were ready. What worse he lost one of my sandels. Waited over an hour for him to locate it. Walked out with one sandel . People are asked to come back in an hour to locate there boots or shoes And do a so-called job on them like he did on my sandels. Its been a week to locate lost sandel and when I called he was very rude and was told he would call me when he finds iy. Saving yo a lot of anguish so beware of promises and frustration. I was referred to this shoe shop but greatly disappointed when I pick up my beige leather pump Bandolino shoes, they have tiny black spots all over them. The manager or owner took them to the back then came back with the shoes and said they didn't do it. Well I had taken a picture of the shoes as I dropped them off and there were no spots on them. I dropped the shoes off for the purpose to get the heel taps replaced. Also, they could have suggested to clean the shoes but they did not even offer that service. Brought in my 7 year old Red Wing Moc Toes to be resoled. Excellent customer service and communication! Price was very reasonable compared to the 5 other shoe repair stores I called. Turn around time was a week and they came back to me as good as new. Will definitely be bringing all my boots to this location in the future. read more

I took 3 pairs of boots to get cleaned , when i got there i waited for about 5 minutes and no one attended me , i rang the bell multiple times and even called the store when i was there and no one came to help when clearly someone had to be there. This place is just horrible I dropped my shoes off there and then when I went to go pick them up they didn't even know where they were it was just bad customer service really bad. Then okay I take my shoes home and I've only worn them four times and they already came apart. So not only is the customer service bad the service is also bad. It's hard to find a shoe repair place that is both reasonably priced and does great work - this place nails it. My family and I have been bringing shoes here for years. I've gotten boots resoled, heels repaired, sandal straps shortened - they do it all. One small criticism is they can be a bit disorganized - they don't always have shoes done when they say they will, and it can take them a while to find a pair of shoes once they are ready for pickup. But, all that seems unimportant when I consider the quality of the work they do, and how great their work is! read more

I would rate "0" if possible. I am recovering from two surgeries that were 6 days apart.....hand surgery and spine surgery. I have to wear a back brace 24/7 for 8-10 weeks and am having trouble managing the brace one handed. I called John's Shoe Repair to inquire about his ability to adapt my brace with leather straps. I understood he couldn't just drop his commitments to other customers, so I asked if I could make an appointment so that I could sit still in his shop as he fixed my brace. He said that might work but wanted to see the brace. My friend drove me to his store on a Tuesday, he saw the brace, we discussed the plan to modify it, and he showed me the leather he would use. He asked that we return Sunday as they open at 3:00pm but "sometimes run a little late". So I suggested we plan on 3:30 in case he ran late. He agreed. My friend and I returned Sunday at 3:30. He told me I would have to wait until he ate lunch (just delivered to the shop) and that he NEVER told us to come in on Sunday!!! My friend, fluent in Spanish, reminded him of our visit and discussion earlier in the week. He had no recall of our appointment and basically accused us of lying. I was NOT willing to sit while he ate lunch especially after he had accused us of lying. As we began walking out the door, he began changing his tune saying " I can fix it now". NO THANK YOU! This place has horrific customer service and apparently does nor care about promises or attracting new customers. read more

John's Shoe Repair is across from the County Tax office in Garland. I went in there on a whim because I had a pair of shoes in the car which I had been meaning to drop off at a shoe repair shop near my home in Lake Highlands. While in my case they were as slow as Christmas -- 2 weeks -- the work, which was full soles and heels, for about $60 was superb. Use them for sure. John's Show Repair was one of the absolute worst experiences I have ever had. I dropped off a vest to have several patches sewn on. I was given a pick up date of approximately 1 week later. Luckily, I called the day I was supposed to pick up the vest and was told that it was not ready and it should be done the next day. I went to pick up the vest the next day only to find that four patches were sewn completely crooked, one patch was sewn out of place and another slightly crooked. If not for the severe mishaps I would have raised no concern, but four patches were terribly crooked and one completely out of place. The gentleman that appeared to run the place argued with me about my concerns stating that the four patches were different sizes and they only appeared crooked and insisted that I must have placed the patch sewn out of place in the wrong spot. He brought out a ruler to measure the patches to prove me wrong only to find they were all the same size. Finally, he agreed to fix his mistakes and gave me a date to pick the vest up of about 3 or 4 days later. I came back about a week later only to find out he had not started on the repairs. I was furious at this point. He informed me that I should have called to check to see if it was done. I've never experienced such audacity and poor customer service. It was somehow my fault that I gave him extra time to complete the job of repairing his mistakes. I asked him what he expected me to pay for this service once he was done. He had no problem telling me that I would be responsible for the full cost. I tried to reason with him by telling him that we agreed upon a price for what I thought would be quality work in a timely fashion. He finally indicated that I did not have to pay. He told me I could pick it up the next day. I showed up to pick it up. The bill was to be $100. I was prepared to offer him $50 even though he had told me I would not have to pay. When I brought up payment he indicated that he was going to discount the bill by $25. I informed him that this was unacceptable and I would be paying him $50 seeing as he told me the service would be free. He then argued me down again, insulting me, telling me I must not have any money, and held onto both my vest and the $50 bill I had laid on his counter. I told him that I was not paying him anymore for the poor service I received. I asked him to either give me my $50 or my vest. He continued to insult me and finally gave me the vest. Upon getting it home to inspect the repairs, I found he didn't even sew one of the patches completely. I am so appalled at the service I received.
