Heard about them through the SDG&E AC Quality care program (an absolute must in San Diego). Alex came out and did the most wonderful job on my 30 year old system getting it running like new! He cleaned the inside and outside of the systems, fixed a number of air leaks and general preventitive maintenance. Alex went above and beyond to help out. After Alex's work, the Air Conditioning system is working so well and blowing cold like it has never before. I could not be happier about ALT. He spent the time to explain what he was doing and why. This is a heightened concern for me as I have a handicap daughter with cerebral palsy coupled with seizures and she requires air-conditioning to keep her stable. I called Affordable air-conditioning around 2 PM within five minutes, Jim the owner, called me back. I had not stated anything about my daughter to him just said that I needed service on my air-conditioning. He asked where I was located he said I'll be there in five minutes. That blew my mind! He arrived within five minutes and we went to where the pump is located. By that time the air conditioning had "fixed itself??" and was working properly and starting to cool the house again. Jim gave me hooked up his equipment and verified everything looked normal. Jim gave me a few tips about the operation and cleaning the unit, shook my hand and wished us a great day. STAY AWAY! I am beyond frustrated with this company…read more We originally used them through Costco, which made us feel more confident choosing them. When we requested maintenance, they showed up quickly and charged us $600. But the worst part? After they left, our AC stopped working. Our system is still under warranty, yet getting them to actually come and fix the problem has been a nightmare. They repeatedly schedule appointments, forcing us to stay home and wait for them--and then no one shows up. Meanwhile, we have been living without AC in 95°F to 101°F heat, waiting for this company to fix the very system they worked on. They have told us they have the part needed, so what exactly are we waiting for? Apparently, someone to actually show up and install it! This level of service is completely unacceptable. If you value your time, your money, and having a working AC during extreme heat, I would strongly recommend staying away from this company.

So my appointment was to get a bid to replace my system. Never worked right. Had other guys out. Still never worked right. He talked me out of replacing the system. Said he had faith in the Goodman system we had. So he gave us a very fair bid for installing a bigger vent and larger ducting. Also put the filter in the return in the hall. Ok solid plan. Well he goes up there finds too much hose going to the vent and it had a kink. Also the unit in the attic had a leak at the pan so it was cooling the attic. So all he ended up doing was solve those 2 problems and it was like a new ac. Then charges 1/3 of his bid. Most guys would have kept their mouth shut and charged the original bid. Unfortunately he forget the part to hold the filter in the hall. Came back 3 days later and wanted to do it for free. Well I couldn't have that. You're dumb to go anywhere else. You won't be disappointed.

I originally gave Smith & Sons a positive review because I was happy with my HVAC installation…read more Unfortunately, my experience since then has changed my opinion. Two years and four months after installation, the system wasn't heating properly. Smith & Sons came out and determined that it was approximately 9 pounds low on refrigerant. I can't prove that the refrigerant loss was due to a faulty installation, but I think the facts speak for themselves. While the system was being recharged, I was standing with the technicians when one of them located what he believed was a leak at a connection. He tightened it and told me he hoped that was the source of the refrigerant loss. I later asked the contractor to document this on my receipt, but he refused and told me no leak had been found. I found this particularly troubling because I had personally witnessed what the technician did and heard what he said. Six months later, the air conditioning was struggling again. I emailed Smith & Sons twice asking for a quote for a leak test and received no response. I then called another HVAC company, which determined that the system was again low on refrigerant--this time by approximately 1 pound. They recharged it and added sealant to address possible small leaks. HVAC systems can develop problems, but losing 9 pounds of refrigerant just over two years after installation, followed by another loss six months later, is concerning. Even more concerning to me was the refusal to document what I witnessed and the lack of response when I later asked for help. For those reasons, I can no longer recommend Smith & Sons.
