I love this place and have loved this place for many years. I got a chance to come back for breakfast recently and it was wonderful! My eggs were cooked exactly the way I ordered them (I'm picky about my over medium well eggs) and all of the flavors I remembered were there, just as expected. I hope to make it back here every now and then for a trip down memory lane and a nice hot breakfast. In contrast to my previous review, the place has developed a new personality with the new look but has retained the same vibe and even some of the same staff! It's a greasy spoon, but my eggs and bacon were better than your average diner joint. Split the gigantic cinnamon roll with my boyfriend and we both loved it. It wasn't dry like you'd expect, it was gooey and sweet all the way through. Maybe not a place to detour to if you're not driving by, but certainly a place to stop if it's on the way. read more

I wish I could give this zero stars! This place used to be family owned and had delicious home cooked meals. I guess it got sold and bought out by some corporate entity and it is now downright deplorable. I dare anyone to eat more than 1 bite of mashed potatoes without throwing up. I loved staying here for the night, and would definitely suggest it to anyone who has to stop in the area. There was plenty of truck parking which was a nice change from trying to squeeze into the Pilot in Denver the night before. An "iconic" truck stop along I-25 between Denver and Fort Collins, god help you if you have to go past this place at night. It's lit up so brightly that I needed SPF 15 and a welders mask just to keep looking at the road. That said, Johnson's Corner is an amalgamation of services, mostly trucker-oriented. The exit ramp from NB 1-25 is dangerous, with a short ramp terminating in a 90* turn, stopping abruptly at the frontage road. There is a convenience store, family restaurant, and gas station for the non-trucker crowd lured in by the World-Famous cinnamon rolls. And that's where the 2 stars come from. The rolls are large, but that's where the good times end. The roll itself is drier than a popcorn fart, there isn't enough cinnamon (and what there is tastes fake), and what is billed as cream cheese icing tastes like sand, glue and skim milk. No need for silica gel packs here. I suspect that these were once very good rolls, but then some corporate shill got involved, and now you have an echo of a quality past. Allegedly, the restaurant is OK. They do a lot of business. read more

As a 20 year + customer, I thought I would stop and pick up one of your homemade cinnamon rolls to support your business during these challenging times. I asked the lady at the counter "which ones were fresh", she replied that "all of them were just made today." It was an obvious, bold-faced lie, because I have eaten probably 100 of your rolls in the past 20 years and know what a fresh cinnamon roll tastes like. When I got home and bit into it, it was obviously days old and stale. Even tasted dry and stale after putting it into the microwave. When many restaurants are struggling right now, only those that continue to serve quality food will survive. Pretty sad that you are choosing to deceive your good and loyal customers and serve them stale garbage for $4, at a time when you can't afford to lose any more customers...good luck with that business strategy! read more

Used to love going to Johnson's Corner. Food was better than average, prices were reasonable, and the cinnamon rolls were the bomb. But, something has changed recently, and not for the better. Several really good employees left recently. Last time I was there, service was slow due to the kitchen being short 2 cooks. The day shift cashier had left for unknown reasons and the one remaining cashier couldn't find her ass with a map and flashlight. Bakery staff is down, too. They can't keep the display counters full and people who wanted their famous cinnamon rolls left empty-handed and disappointed. Worst of all, some idiot decided to paint over the big display window that looks west toward the mountains. I heard a couple of people mention that they love the views of the Rockies while they enjoy their meals and that is now gone. The ongoing construction on I-25 doesn't help matters. Miserable traffic patterns scare away a portion of the business. Management needs to step up its game, find and keep good employees and get back the almost magical vibe the place used to have. Now, it's just a wide place in the road with nothing to bring in customers. read more

The cinnamon rolls claim to be world famous, but I hate to say that I found them to be quite average, if not bad. Per the suggestions on the package, I microwaved the doughy brick for 60 seconds and started to dig in. The icing tastes earthy and has a texture that can only be described as lightly moistened cement. The cinnamon roll itself is slightly burnt on the top, extremely dry, and overall not good enough to compensate for the miserable excuse for icing. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because eating this cinnamon roll has provided me with more insight on the truck stop. If you can't eat it, the cinnamon roll surely has a bright future as a spare tire for an 18-wheeler, both in terms of size and general toughness. read more

I ordered a club sandwich, it came with all the right meat , lettuce etc. however it was all in chunks and dry. So I could not enjoy as a sandwich had to cut and eat with a fork. They need to learn how to put this sandwich together correctly so it can be enjoyed!! read more

The food here was ok. But we stopped because of the write up on the Cinnamon Rolls. They were TERRIBLE! They were dry and seemed to be days old. The instructions on the carry-out ones were to microwave them. The frosting was stuck to the top of the container. When we followed the directions, the sugary frosting melted the container and we had to throw them out. My suggestion is to go to Cinnabon! read more

Great place to stop and rest and eat some homemade cooking! Place is super clean and staff is friendly. I recommend the chicken fried steak. Not greasy and really crisp batter. Mash potatoes are home made from scratch and taste awesome. The desserts looked really good too. Been around for decades. A must see and eat kind of place. Update: Been back several times since my first post and have not had any enjoyable visits since. One meal I tried was their spaghetti and meat sauce. It was terrible. So far peaches n' cream is the best. Their food is pretty good for a truck stop, the chile is delicious. Prices are decent we paid $21 for two entrees, two drinks, a giant donut and a cinnamon roll. It has been years since I came here as a trucking trainee but to find it again I am happy. Even though now it has combined with Petro the restaurant is still open and the food and staff are as good as it was my first time. You get large helping of food to the point I thought I never finish it also the bakery is still making all the good pastires too. So, I have voyaged here on secret missions I cannot tell you about three times in the month of bluerectangle. This used to be the only place that served a decent chicken fried steak at 3:30am. The cinnamon rolls that made this place famous are not as good as they used to be. I'm not sure what happens to a place when they decide to expand. Something just dies... Unfortunately, the same fate has played true here. I remembered coming here as a kid and liking it. I came back a while ago with my Aunt. I had a green chili burger. It was weak. They didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked?? That's really weird. It came out past well done. I would guess that if I didn't specify it would come out as medium. As a Restaurant Manager I know that that is the most ordered temp. I also have seen statistics that show that of the 5 way to order a burger, 50% percent of people prefer medium. I like mid-rare. My girlfriend is the only person I know that likes well-done. Ugh. Plus, the customer base seems to be mostly elderly people. How do they chew those tough pieces of meat. Anyway, the green chili was bland and boring. The bun was burnt as well. So one day we were driving back from Loveland or Ft Collins. I can't remember. We were starving. I thought it might be a bad idea to go back. I thought that maybe ordering a dish with a Mexican green chili in redneck country was my fault. Well, Tex-Mex I guess. So, we took the plunge. I didn't want to make the same mistake as last time. I thought to myself, what would these country folks do well? Meatloaf, mac n cheese and green beans. Right? No! The mac n cheese was a premium side that cost extra. I was excited. I imagined a Little House on the Prairie style family with a recipe past down from generation to generation being the served to me. I'm a mac n cheese nut. So, it comes out in a little cup. My heart sank. It looked like that awful Kraft powder cheese stuff in the box. I tasted it. It was somehow worse than that. I thought I was on Candid Camera. This can't be real. They can't actually serve this. Allen Funt did not come around the corner with cameras. I was heart broken. I don't know why that stuff exists. I know it's cheap, but even if you are really down on your luck you can make a mornay sauce with milk and government cheese. I know. I've been there. I told the waitress to "take it back in the kitchen, hand it to the chef and tell him I was offended that he tried to sell this $#!+ to me for money." Disgusting! The next Item was the green beans. I don't know how you screw these up. They had this awful waxy but soggy at the same time texture. No seasoning or butter or flavor. Obviously from a can. I told the waitress the same thing I told her about the mac n cheese. I asked if the French fries were powdered potatoes in a box or from a can. She said no. I told her to bring me out some of those. They were flavorless and disappointing. I think they were the frozen from a bag ones. I should have asked that. The meatloaf had an odd texture. Like something you would get from a Banquette frozen dinner. Those are the $1 ones. The gravy tasted like powder mix and water. Surprise. Luckily there was a McDonald's a few exits up. The staff is friendly. No complaints there. This food is sooooo sad. I can't believe this place is still in business. This is some of the worse food I have ever had. Step your game up. Mac n cheese is as simple as milk or cream. Or a mixture. Maybe a little butter and flour and some real cheese. Why do you think it's okay to serve powdered cheese in 2014? The short and sweet- Cinnamon rolls- overrated, Cinnabon's are way better Had the "modest meal" turkey with green beans and stuffing. For 7.79, I was full. Came with salad, albeit salad from a bag. The turkey was thick, a tad dry, but flavorful and abundant, even in the "modest meal". You would really need to be starving to get the regular size turkey meal. My girlfriend got hard boiled eggs which are hard to find in a lot of places and they came out relatively quick. Diet Coke tasted a little weird. Service was real quick and friendly. read more

We've been here several times now, and I can say that if it wasn't for their cinnamon rolls we'd never go back. Even with them, we are maybe a couple times a year. Last night we went again because my wife wanted to get some cinnamon rolls for her office, as it's her manager's last day. So we just decided to eat while we were there. I originally ordered the roast beef dinner, and was told they were out. So I changed my order to the pork chops dinner... this what a very VERY bad decision. Those things were some of the worst pieces of over cooked, flavorless shoe leather that I've ever had in my entire life. The waitress was great however, she talked to the manager who took 20% off our bill (which considering feeding 4 people and the cinnamon rolls to go was a pretty good size discount). So I give them credit for that - however I suspect he did it because he thought it was going to be cheaper than comping my meal... it wasn't. Their breakfasts are always OK, nothing great, not even good, just OK. Their burgers are decent, but again aren't anything to write home about. Other than those shoe leather pork chops everything we've had there is just... OK. I suspect if they had competition, even their cinnamon rolls wouldn't save them from going out of business. Speaking of the cinnamon rolls, I admit they are very good. However, if you get the normal frosting, please stand by for a sugar rush that could kill an elephant! It is VERY sweet, and they put a LOT on. I always get the cream cheese frosting, which is a lot less sweet, however I still take about 1/2 of it off. Lastly, the service is hit and miss. We've had both good service (which we got last time we were there), to borderline bad service. We've never gotten excellent service however, and I think that's a combination of attitude of some servers (the worse ones), and what seems like too much to do with not enough staff to do it. I am a truck driver and I stop here regularly, almost every time I'm through. More for the fenced-in dog play area they have out back, so my pups can stretch their legs :). But when I'm hungry, the restaurant IS one of the better roadside eateries in America. Now don't misplace your expectations- it IS a truckstop diner and the food choices are pretty much typical for a diner. But given that, I've always found the food AND the service to be above par. The night time service tends to be better, with a more easygoing pace and servers who will take the time to chat with you. My personal favorite is the French Dip sub, and if you're a fan of hot wings, this place has some of the BEST in the country. Breakfast is good too, my husband likes their omelets. Like some others, I'm really not a fan of the cinnamon buns. Too sweet, and not soft-ooey-gooey enough for my tastes...not even the center is soft and gooey! I make better tasting cinnamon rolls out of one of those Pillsbury "tubes" than these things. But who goes to a diner for a diabetic coma? If you can overlook the buns, try the hot wings and french dip, or maybe a burger....this place will be well worth the stop! read more

Another diner in the Northern CO area that lives off of its former glorious past (SG). A past I have never experienced. I am in love Mom and Pop diners that care about serving the best food. Unfortunately I have yet to find one in this area. I think from a prideful past, Johnson's Corner now has no pride in their food. Canned - from the gravy to the corned beef hash. Poor quality veggies including a very blah salad. The chicken-fried steak was actually ok - but the gravy over the top ruined it. The potatoes were worse. I think they were potato flakes. On several previous occasions I ordered breakfast - and the only reason why I didn't give this place a terrible rating. Well, that and the cool wait staff. I feel bad for them. They are so sweet, friendly and efficient. I just wish the food here represented how great those ladies are. The breakfast here is better than the I-25 IHop in Loveland (the only decent IHop in this area is the blue-roofed one on College Ave. in Fort Collins.) Very standard breakfast fare, eggs cooked on a grill with that oil/fake butter stuff. Large helping of hash brown potatoes with little flavor (again with the oil/fake butter stuff) and undercooked. Meh. None of the food stands out as great. I guess that's why I keep coming back. I'm looking for a "I absolutely have to have this again" moment. *sigh* About the cinnamon rolls: I reeeeally wanted to like them. Enough to go back again and again. Solely based on their reputation I kept thinking "I must have a bad batch". The bread to cinnamon ratio is way off. Such a large roll with not nearly enough rings. The bread is dry. Very dry. I grew up in Fort Collins and have lived in CO most of my life, but never had one of the famous cinnamon rolls till this weekend. I figured it was time, so made it a point to stop on the way home from visiting Dad. They have prepackaged cinnamon rolls right next to the cash register. One will set you back a whopping $3 (yes that's sarcasm in type). Heated in the microwave the roll was very tasty. I absolutely love this place. Be prepared, this is a truck stop and you're not in for fine dining although, to me it's a cultural icon. If I have time and I'm heading through Fort Collins, I stop here and sit at the bar area so I can talk to the old truckers and ranchers and eat one of their delicious cinnamon rolls. I especially like to stop if I have out of town/country guests. Do yourself a favor, sit at one of the two bars. I've only tried a few things and the rest of what I have tried is standard Americana breakfast and lunch type fare. There is a shop that you can kill lots of time in with very unique and campy items. While you're filling up your tank don't forget to get some gas for the car too. Yup, it's a truck stop. And to be honest, I prefer my cinnamon buns with a whole lot more substance and a whole lot less gimmick. BUT The middle-of-the-night service was extraordinarily friendly and attentive, the clean, shining, booth-and-U-Shaped-Countertop seating was epic Americana, and the coffee was fresh, hot, and refilled often. The breakfast menu looked tempting, as I am a total fan of Greasy Spoon Joints. I would definitely stop back here on a road trip if I were passing by. read more

Johnson's was something of a destination stop for us on our road trip. While there was nothing inherently wrong about our stop here, it certainly wasn't worthy of being labeled a destination. We were left at our table so long without having anyone take an order from us that we were starting to wonder if we didn't know how to actually order (I assumed the phones were for truckers to call home from, but were they maybe to order?). To be fair, our waitress came over and apologized, saying she didn't see us behind another table. Other than that, she was pretty much fine. The food was nothing too special, either. I don't remember much of my meal, except the macaroni & cheese. I'm not at all convinced the macaroni & cheese wasn't boxed Kraft. The cinnamon rolls were pretty good, but I'm pretty convinced that the only thing making them special was way too much icing. Overall, there is absolutely nothing wrong with stopping here for a meal, just don't make it a destination. read more

It is one of the best truck stop, and it has all the amenities for truckers and even people on long road trips, and people actually drop in for the food. The chicken fried steak is famous here so I just had to try it. My mouth did not say wow, as it was okay. The biscuit and sausage gravy is one of the better ones I have had, but still no wow. The green chili. What a disappointment. The bowl was small like a cup and they charged about $4.50. I could not tell what meat was in it as there were only about four pepper-corn size pieces. Very few pieces of green chile, and a couple small pieces of red chili. The rest was just roux. The French fries were not fresh, rather cooked from frozen ones. I did not bother to try their famous cinnamon bun. judging from the chicken fried steak and green chile, which they are famous for, I had doubt that the cinnamon bun would be worth trying. Worlds worst cinnamon rolls. Dry, no cinnamon, cold, and gross!! It was more like a dry donut roll than actual cinnamon roll. And the icing was more like sugar frosting, instead of your typical cream cheese topping. Cinnabon has better cinnamon rolls and they don't even claim to be "world famous". The restaurant itself is fine but I gave it one star because if you are going to claim to be the best, be the best. read more
