After reading the previous reviews on Yelp, I decided to give this place a try - specifically, the Singapore Mei Fun lol. I remember one time I ordered pork chops with rice at a food truck and was greeted with fried chicken wings, rice, and some bitter broccoli when I got back - FAIL. So of course, I came to this place with big hopes but little expectations. Now, let me just say hat this was one of the best food stands/trucks type around Temple that I have ever encountered. I was totally surprised by the amount of chicken, roasted pork, and shrimp in the serving! Trust me, it's not just a deceiving few laid on top, and you'll never have to dig through it to find some meat. With that said, I thought the chicken was a little dry...but the pork and shrimp made up for it and the portions were definitely generous for only $5.50!!!! I haven't tried its other dishes but I can testify that the Singapore Mei Fun is well worth the price. Also the food comes in a decent sized aluminum plate with a plastic cover, which I think is much more convenient and healthy than the cheap styrofoam lunch boxes. And instead of a plastic bag, you'll get a paper lunch bag, yay! Anyway, the service is fast and efficient; I went a little past 1 and there was not much of a line when I got there. So Orient Express doesn't taste the same as your typical American Chinese greasy spot. The food tastes more authentic. I'm not sure if it's the combination of the rude cashier or the soft texture of the steamed pork dumplings but it always warms my heart. I, personally, always love food when I see people of the similar demographic eating the food. So for example, I'm Caribbean. If I see a fellow Caribbean at a Caribbean restaurants I trust it just a little bit more. Call me crazy but that's how I make some of my food decisions lol. This place follows the same exact concept! Literally the best steamed dumplings I have had on the east coast. NOT the veggie dumplings, they have to be pork, thank me later. The food can be a bit greasy but the from the soups to the Mei fun, it is really a delight to have on Temple's campus. I go straight here whenever I have cash because I hate having to pay an extra .50 cents just for using my card (that part is a complete rip off)! Love love this place. read more

One of my go to lunch places at work, I've had many dishes from here some good..some OK. The lady that works there Rebecca is pretty cool an down to earth. Even though I am Chinese and I eat Chinese food alomost everyday, I still like this place. I like rice noodles most, orient express had the tastiest Singapore rice noodles I have, the taste of curry is not strong. There are chicken, pork abd shrimp but I just like shrimps. Meh. Average. I really wanted to like this place but I'm not impressed. I'd rather walk the few blocks to Broad Street and get tastier chinese food. On my first occasion I ordered the Shrimp Udon noodles. It was extremely bland. Flavorless. Greasy, but I don't mind that at all. It just didn't taste like anything at all. The striped celery pieces had more flavor than these noodles. On my second occassion I ordered something more popular (I overheard a lot of students order the Sesame Chicken). It wasn't bad. Kind of reminded me of fried chicken wings. It just wasn't the typical "sesame chicken dish" I expected. You know.. the sticky sweet and tangy sauce. The sauce it came with didn't really taste like anything. Where's the rice vinegar? Where's the reduced soy sauce? Where's the sugar? I guess when you're pushing out orders every 3 minutes you don't have time to make a good sesame chicken sauce. Thus, the dish lacked flavor. However, I was impressed the amount of chicken you got (at least in my order on this particular occassion). It had to be at least 8oz of chicken. Also a good amount of broccoli pieces were included. Some places like to be stingy and only give two. But I think there were 5 or 6 pieces in my bowl. Overall, it's just okay. The food is cooked well, just not to my personal taste preference. I think there are better chinese food places within 5 min walking distance. My experience makes me reluctant to try more dishes from them. The only thing I get here is Singapore Mei Fun but as far as I'm concerned it's the best damn mei fun I've ever eaten, and I've been around the proverbial block so I know what a good mei fun is. The right amount of egg, the perfect balance between shrimp and meat, just the right amount of stir fried veggies. And the owner (looks like it's a family business) that mans the counter is hella kewl! I swear I sometimes come there to eat just because I love how he yells my order back to the cook...SING MEI!!! This place will hold a special place in my heart for feeding me throughout my college career. Yeah, there is definitely better chinese/oriental food out there on Temple Campus. But it's at the Anderson wall (prime location), and their prices aren't too shabby, and the food never tastes bad. The man who I assume owns this little joint always knows what to throw into my bag - soy sauce and hot oil. Awesome. My regular orders - hot and sour soup (always bomb!), drunken noodles (very greasy, not for the healthy eaters), pad thai, mapo tofu. I'm sure their other food is equally delicious. Just a warning - the foods, especially the noodles, are kind of greasy. Also, the wait during lunch rush is horrible - I've waited over 20 minutes for a dish. But if you get a soup, you'll most likely get it right away. read more

The food is fresh and very affordable, but it usually gets VERY crowded, especially around lunchtime. It also doesn't help much that the counter dude can be a bit pushy, but regardless, it works when I happen to have finished a class and am craving chinese food and don't feel like getting delivery from China House. read more

The guys who takes the orders cheated me out of $10.00. I asked him why it was so expensive, he kept saying $45.00. I walked to my car, did the math and realized the actual total was $35.50 (the $.50 was the charge for using my credit card). I went back to tell him he overcharged me, and he had the $10.00 there waiting for me. He intentionally overcharged me, had I not went back he would have gotten away with it. Meh. I've had better Chinese food. But Orient Express is convenient because it's right on Temple's Main Campus, in the strip of food stands on 12th Street, next to the Tech Center and across from the Library. So I order from here. I've had lots of their food - lo mein, wonton, spring/egg rolls, sesame chicken, fried rice, etc. etc. It's edible and sometimes it's pretty good, but it's only passable Chinese food as far as I'm concerned. The good thing is that it's fast and cheap, so it's good for grabbing a bite to eat between classes. read more

Food is always great. Hot and sour soup there is a lot different than other places. Tastes really good. It's Chinese food (duh!) so expect it to have grease. I can assure that all Chinese food has grease, so I don't know what the complaint is about grease... anyways I think it's less greasier than your average Chinese food in the corner. read more
