Do not come here to eat for dinner! The night scene is great and fun. The breakfast is great. Dinner however is a different story. First - the menu is such a strange combination from Italian to seafood to steak but they somehow don't have chicken tenders. The whole menu is just super strange and way too expensive for what it is. I ended up getting a salad, the others at my table got the prime rib and fried oysters. Both meals were overcooked and none of us were happy at all. If you eat here your best bet is either getting a salad or a side of fries. Service is also super slow, looked like they only had one waiter working the entire restaurant. Food: The stop was mainly for desserts: the brownie, hot fut fudge, and vanilla ice cream were good initially; getting to the end, the brownie tasted stale. We visited the Jolly Rogers every holiday season. It has become an essential part of our "12 Bars of Christmas" tradition. The atmosphere is always delightful. However, the staff were not that delightful. What made it friendly and an inviting environment was the Radio host. They have trivia here as part of restaurant reward. The drinks at Jolly Rogers were okay, and the food okay as well. However, what really stands out is the incredible hospitality of Radio host and fun we had playing trivia that makes the overall experience memorable. My kids then changed their minds and weren't coming, then at the last minute they were. By this point, my wife and I already ate dinner at the bar. The steak was decent and the meat lasagna was surprisingly good. Then my kids rolled in at 8:50 (10 minutes to closing of the restaurant side). After some back and forth, they seated us, now a party of 7, but 2 of us already ate. We weren't rushed at all and allowed to order as if it were an hour earlier. My daughter and her BF ordered the pasta with vodka sauce. IT WAS NOT GOOD. She ate 3 bites and couldn't eat any more. I will chalk that up to the fact that, technically, the kitchen was closed when they ordered. Otherwise, everything acceptable. My youngest ordered a steak that he liked, but he said the baked apples were "fire". After a day on the beach and a full belly, I went to bed instead of staying for karaoke. First off the service was great! The waiter was very kind, helpful and attentive to our needs. The food on the other hand was really not. Starting with the sautéed shrimp, it was white, not cooked AT ALL and everyone in our party couldn't eat it, and we're not a picky crowd. We were greeted by Lulu, who made our party of 13 feel very welcome. The kids were excited about the pirate decor which has an amusement park ambiance. We went in for drinks and appetizers around 4pm. Server was attentive, polite and efficient. Bloody Mary's came in adorable carafe type glass and the flavors were wonderful. It was simple and good. The bread was also homemade, which was a very nice touch. Our server was extremely friendly. I am giving this place 3 stars because the food is nothing special. This may sound like a hater review, but it is a true story about the Jolly Roger some months ago I started going to Jolly Roger. I've got a lot of good fun times there seeing karaoke, dancing, and hanging out with my friends. One night they came to me and said you smell like trees and I said yeah I bought it right down the street at the store and even though there were 10 people that worked at that near me my first name no one told me you couldn't smoke trees in the back in the smoking area. Everybody saw me doing it. Nobody said anything and there's no sign to say otherwise. So I got banned for 30 days. Then after I came back one night, they told me you smell like trees again and I said oh it's here in my pocket that's what you smell. They said you gotta go. You can't come back till tomorrow. The last incident was two nights ago. The funny thing about it is they started selling weed drinks so they let people drink weed there but they don't want you to come and smell like you've been smoking it when you buy it right down the street at the store I think that's a double standard and it's bad business. I got banned for 60 more days, to tell you the truth I'm kind of happy about it because it is quite boring over there. Every DJ sucks hard and the people judge you put you down and make you feel bad because they're not right in the head. I have been smoking trees for 45 years for me it's not a big deal at all. There's not much to it but to the Jolly Roger, you can drink weed you can eat weed, but you just can't smoke weed that don't make any sense. Anyway, aside from the super long wait, Jolly Roger was ok. I definitely liked the fun, divey, tacky and eclectic decor. It was silly but fun and seemed totally fitting for a restaurant named after a pirate flag. Also, I will say that prices were very reasonable. I think you can get a basic breakfast combo for as low as $4. Something else I liked about Jolly Roger was that they had lots of sweets you could add on to your breakfast like cinnamon buns and pancakes. Our server was friendly and really seemed to be hustling. So I am wondering if the delays were related to staffing shortages that seem to be plaguing the Outer Banks in general.
