Supreme Service at JOMAG! We brought in our 2013 CC for a weird key/ignition related issue. He could have easily quoted us to replace it but instead told us if we pushed the key in rapidly it worked just fine. Since then we haven't had issues and haven't even had to do the trick. They didn't even charge us for taking a look and giving this advice. Our old mechanic kept telling us it was a bad battery, so we wasted one perfectly good battery and would have waisted another if not for Jomag. Very efficient shop and nice guys. read more

My dune buggy is a vw bug engine and chassis, but that's about it. I hate to do this, but I'm updating to 1 star. About 2 years ago I gave my car to my brother-in-law. He had Jomag check it out and do some preventive maintenance. They changed the timing belt, which is a pretty major service. About a week later the belt shreds and since it's a zero clearance engine, it does so serious damage. They try to deny responsibility, but after several weeks of pushing they accept and fix the car. They fix it, but it's not quite right. I think the cams are either off a tooth off or they just replaced the belt without replacing any bent valves. In any case the car ran like crap after that and failed smog, so its a total loss, which is total bummer after paying over $1000 to try and do the right preventative maintenance. Jomag is BOSS. Brought my baby, GTI, here (see pic) Thursday morning after a loud, squealing sound in my engine wouldn't let up. Mauricio greeted me very kindly (I didn't have an appointment), I explained my problem, gave him my # and went to work. That afternoon, he gave me a call and explained (in detail) exactly what he had to do, how much the part cost, and that my car would be ok. I always thought that from the person that sells it to me, to the person that buys it from me, everyone involved in me having a car wants to cheat every penny out of me. But then I came here. Allow me to begin with my past auto repair excursions with my 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0T. Ever since I bought my car, it has seen several shops. That includes Tato Motorsports, Eurowurx, Wicked Motorsports, and a few Audi dealerships (The Auto Gallery, South Bay and Keyes in Van Nuys). You may ask..."Why so many?". I do not want to elaborate my overall experiences with each independent repair shops but let's just say it did not work out for me. Some of the reasons are too expensive (labor & price), poor customer service, insincere behavior, and talk a lot of BS justifying their reputation or some of them don't know what they're talking about. No, I'm not a car genius or anything but I have plenty of experience and knowledge about cars in general...I just kept my mouth shut every time their nose gets longer...go figure :) Anyhow, in short, I would stay away from these shops. Then how would I know who to trust? Well I don't, unless I worked on my own car, which I used to do. Thanks to yelp! After reading the reviews, it made me reach out and try this shop. Initially started-out with a phone call and talked to the owner, Mauricio to make an appointment. I shared to him what I needed and he openly suggested a date and time to bring in my vehicle. To make long story short, I missed couple of appointments due to my forgetfulness...my wife can vouch for it...haha! Okay...moving on! Few weeks flew by and I called again...begging for mercy (not really) and apologizing about my miss appointments. My car is really due for an oil change and I need to get it done before this coming weekend (road trip). Added to my stress, he doesn't have any open spots til next week but he knew how much I needed the oil change. To my luck, he offered offered me a spot within the next hour. Wow! How cool was that?!?! Zoomed through traffic and in less than 30 minutes I was there. When I arrived, I was a little appalled how the shop looked compared to others (not judging by its cover :D). A warm welcome soon followed by Mauricio and told me how long it will take to get the job done. Couple conversations were exchanged about what oil to use (he has Mobil 1...the best!). I easily felt calm and assure that this guys knows what he's doing. A quick lunch a block west of the shop at the Coffee Table, which he recommended completely filled my satisfaction. Top notch mechanics that deal in honest and fairness, are becoming harder and harder to find these days... Jomag and it's owner, Mauricio, are one of those rare finds of outstanding ability and fair pricing. After being recommended by a friend (they thrive on word-of-mouth btw), I quickly understood why so many people come here... I've been a customer for over a year and have always had better than expected results. My gf's Jetta has been a bit problematic, but Mauricio always is quick to solve the problem and not kill my wallet. A few visits deep, I asked him about tuning my M3 (BMW) and he agreed. I have paid a total of over $1,000 in less than a month for an axel repair, which broke due to incompetent inspection had to get it towed back to jommag, you pay to get it inspected!! so I came back (Mind you my AC was perfectly fine I had just refilled my refrigerant, when I got it back it wasn't working tried to fill it it just leaked out at 0psi) -I let that slide f it I needed a new compressor anyway I was gonna work on that later) anywho they said it was due to the engine mount which is complete bull my car never shook at idle it never had any sort of issue regarding an engine mount I would know you would feel that kind of issue immediately. Again I made the mistake to say ok whatever fix it I'll pay just fix it, finally I got it back it was all good. Not even two weeks later my starter messes up I've never had no issue with my starter either so I had to take (tow) it back they changed it I paid a good penny for that as well and as I'm driving off the car turns off, marks engine oil and battery which never had come on before I came back immediately luckily I was only around the corner like I said I had just gotten the car, mind you Mauricio said he had taken it on a test drive so we drove it together again in that test drive he was basically telling me I'd have to pay more cash just to check what's wrong when clearly they touched something & now my car just turns off mid drive....I'm totally willing to pay to get the job done I can't stress that enough but to be taken advantage of like this when it's blatantly obvious something wasn't done right is just wrong....I'm at the point where they have my car right now checking it out and I will pay once more I'm sure it's going to be a fat bill once again but please people steer away from this place they will take full advantage of you! He seems like a nice guy but to not have the courtesy to admit when the jobs not been done right twice is just wrong take initiative be responsible and get the job done right for the amount I paid already once this is done I'm never coming back here again. So sad because it seems he only took advantage of me because I'm young. read more

I've been coming here for the past five years off of a recommendation from the atrocious VW dealer in Glendale. It was a blessing in disguise. Mauricio has a little gem here thats built it's customers purely through word of mouth. When I told him about this yelp page he told me he doesn't even know how to access it. In fact he's never attempted to. He smiled when I shared a few others reviews and it's clear how he values the one on one relationship with his customers. This is why everyone raves about his honesty and personality. If you had a bad experience here, it's not the shop. It's you. His love for Volkswagens shows with all kinds of models sitting around. Positive reviews are written by the owner's son's friends. I used to take my VW Beetles and Jetta there in the 90's and thought he was fairly honest....till i found another mechanic that showed me that I didn't need half the stuff he told me I needed. I recently went back after he quoted me a price of $350 to fix my ABS brake module on my 2000 Passat. When I arrived to get it fixed, he began a diagnostic test that I didn't even ask for.... Then he jacked up the price to $450 to do the ABS. This guy started working on my car to fix all these other issues I never even approved and changed his initial quote of $70 for the diagnostic to $120. He also lied about being two quarts low on oil and told me I needed new laser spark plugs and a valve cover gasket (along with a whole list of things) when I literally had those changed 2 months earlier. I will never go back Jomag again. He comes across as if he's looking out for you and your automobile, but he's really only looking out for himself. VW owner beware... read more

I'm usually wary of auto shops because I've been taken advantage of and over charged for services in the past. I had never visited this shop before. Based primarily on favorable prior reviews and the fact I own an '84 VW Rabbit - which most mechanics under the age of 40 won't touch - I went to Jomag. I had a nagging small problem with the engine idle and met Mauricio, the proprietor. After he gave a distraught older Asian lady directions back to Los Felix, he gingerly took my car in and told me to wait a few days. His crew took an immediate interest to my car. And after a few days, I came back and he charged me nothing - having adjusted the fuel air mixture and checked on a few other parts of the engine. I insisted on paying him something, but he refused. Granted, my experience is limited, but based on what I saw of his shop, of his mechanics and his calm expertise and, most importantly, how my car was running afterwards, I'll be coming back to his establishment in the future. In this day & age where dollars fly out the window as soon as a problem creeps up with your car, it was refreshing to encounter Jomag Auto Repair, most especially as 'unknown customer' coming right off the street. I recently took my 2004 Jetta TDI to Jomag. My check engine light went on and my brakes were acting a little funny. I was prepared for the worse and wanted to avoid a dealer (as my warranty was up). Jomag was great. He was a bit busy (perhaps all these good reviews are adding to his customer base) but he was very thorough and fair. In the end I had my vacuum booster hose replaced and my master brake cylinder replaced. He also changed my oil and filters. All in it was $450. When I called the dealer to get a price comparison, the total for parts and labor for the brakes alone was over $650 (and that didn't include the oil change (which on a diesel tdi engine is around 100$). One thing I should add, is that the mechanic really tried his best to save me money. Rather than replace the cylinder (worse case scenario) from the start, he tried the vacuum booster, which had a leek but that did not fix the overall problem. He then searched around for a more affordable Master Cylinder for me, by calling various dealers ect. All in all, he really went out of his way to save me some money. All in all I am very happy with my decision to see Jomag, he was not the quickest, but patience is a virtue and I feel that I got the best mechanical expertise and value with Jomag. read more

I recently moved to LA and was immediately faced with car issues. I found Jomag on Yelp and am so glad that I did. My front passenger window wouldn't roll up. This is a problem I've had with all the windows in my 2000 Passat, so I know the run around shops will give you on this job. I spoke with Mauricio over the phone and explained the issue. He hesitantly told me that the window regulator would need to be replaced, which I already knew. I explained that I have had horrible luck with this in the past and had crappy jobs done in other locations. He assured me that 95% of the work he does is on VWs and that he now only buys VW parts. He told me that he used to buy the cheaper parts from other places, but they would break and the work would have to be re-done. He would rather buy slightly more expensive parts and do the job once. I appreciate this and agree completely! I took the car in the next morning and he said he would have it done by 4pm. At 12:30pm he called to tell me it was ready to pick up. He charged me slightly less than he quoted me on the phone, and it was 75% what I paid in the Bay Area when this happened a few years ago. Fast, quick, professional, fairly priced work. I am so happy I've found this shop, and hope I continue to be this pleased with their work. read more

After being screwed over by VW dealerships in Pasadena and Glendale, I found a review for Jomag on a stranger's blog. (This is before I knew about yelp.) When my timing belt blew prematurely on my Passat 4 years ago, a dealership quoted me $4,635 to repair my engine. As a bonus, they charged me an additional $297 for "diagnosis time" to come up with the conclusion that I needed a new engine and timing belt. Mauricio, the owner of Jomag, repaired the entire engine for $2,069 and didn't charge me anything for the estimate. And, he did a great job. He has a lot of experience with VWs and can fix stupid things like the door window locks, windows, wipers, flat tires, lights as well as bigger things like entire ABS systems. He uses all original VW parts, unless you request otherwise. He also works on other models of cars. As more and more of his customers are moving away from VWs, he continues to service their new makes of autos. I've been going to him for four years and he unfailingly explains problems in clear terms, gives me options, tells me what's critical and what can wait. His prices are very reasonable. You just don't feel like you're being taken advantage of when you go to Mauricio. As a bonus, he doesn't talk down to women. If you have a VW made in the last 10 or so years, you'll definitely need to find a good and trustworthy mechanic. These cars are crap, but that's not Mauricio's fault. He's the best. Finding a good mechanic in Los Angeles is invaluable. Since he can get very busy at times, make sure to call ahead to see when he can fit you into his schedule. It's a small place. There's no waiting room, but, if you're having something relatively minor fixed, you can walk down to the Coffee Table to wait. read more
