I stopped at this restaurant with my family in the morning to grab some bagels for breakfast and we were not impressed. The service was good and the lady who took our order was very nice. However, these bagels are not like New York bagels and that just needs to be mentioned. I am from New York, so maybe I just have higher standards, but I was a bit upset with my bagel. I got the Scotia on an everything bagel and it was ok, the fillings were good but the actual bagel was a bit upsetting and not very seasoned. Also, my dad ordered an everything bagel with scallion horseradish creamed cheese and tomato and they forgot his tomato. Not the best option in my opinion but if you're really craving bagels, this place will suffice. read more

We tried lunch today... it was good. I felt like Gulliver among the Lilliputs when I first walked in, because immediately inside the door there was a large group of hippy 20--somethings, none of whom was over 5 feet tall. At least they weren't playing hackysack indoors. It was packed, but my order was taken quickly with a smile, and we got our sandwiches fast. We sat at a clean table and there was some very cool artwork to look at... funky painted horseshoe crabs. Not to mention the funky customers to look at... I hadn't seen a bearded woman in Orleans before... other places, yes, just not in Orleans yet. One sandwich was a mozzarella, tomato, basil, EVOO (which apparently means extra virgin olive oil) and balsamic vinegar. My friend had chicken salad with cranberries and walnuts. The sandwiches were delicious... but small. If you're used to a $5 footlong from Subway, you'll leave Jo Mama's hungry after your $7 5-inch-long sandwich. Would be nice if they threw in a bag of chips for us middle-aged dudes. Add $3 bottled lemonade, $1.50 bottled water... and a small counter service lunch for 2, (with water as one beverage), was $20. And it's the cheapest possible bottled water.... how about giving it to us for a buck? The goodwill would be more valuable than the extra 50 cents. Tables were clean, floor was dirty. read more

I trust that the bagels they serve are fresh (since they sell the day old ones for cheap) but they don't seem to use the same system for the sandwich bread- in my experience the Ciabatta, as it felt and tasted two days stale. Toasting it as requested might have helped with the melted cheese, but they didn't do that either. Unfortunately stale bread ruins an otherwise good sandwich, and in this case it was an otherwise mediocre one. I loved this place ! So many interesting options, pick your bread, pick your cold cuts - lot of bagel choices, breakfast burritos and sandwiches to take to the beach. Really good coffee, at least 4 roasts each day, and if you bring your own commuter mug, prices are even better ! No point in going to a big chain when quality options are right on the same street. read more

Jo Mama's has a really good selection of sandwiches for vegetarians and omnivores alike, their prices are fair, the food is pretty good, and the staff are super-friendly. The cafe itself is cozy and cute and I love that they sell Odwalla smoothies and use their own porcelain house mugs for people who stick around instead of giving everyone wasteful disposable cups. The elusive fifth star is absent because their coffee is only so-so and I'm not convinced they make their own hummus, which is a bummer. Great food, excellent service, friendly staff, good prices! I love the ABC (avocado, applewood smoked bacon, tomato & cheese on focaccia) and the Kickin' Chicken (spicy chicken with basil and mozzerella) and El Diablo (I'm not even a vegetarian but I love this one!). Their breakfast sandwiches are yummy too, but I'm not crazy about the eggs microwaved. Given their small "kitchen" area, it's expected and not horrible. The Papa Jack is awesome. While their bagels and cream cheese are great, I'm not a fan of how they prepare them. GIANT (like a good 1/2 inch) amount of cream cheese between the 2 halves and then cut in half again. NEVERTHELESS, they are always obliging when I ask them to make it with a smear of cc on each side and not cut in half again. Only downside is the coffee bar. Has coffee pumps. If you get a lot of people in there , it can be difficult to fill your cup. Food was great, bagels were tasty. Staff was attentive, not snotty. Outstanding New York style bagels are the best on the peninsula, probably the best you can get outside of The City (New York that is). Add a schmear of luxurious plain or creatively flavored cream cheese and you are good to go for early morning fishing, surfing or a paddle on the Outer Cape. I go here all the time and I like it. Decent bagels and baked goods. Good selection of sandwiches with some interesting variety. It can be a little pricy compared to home in CT but not terribly so. It also can be crowded especially on a weekend on-season. I believe it's open all year though or at least it's open whenever I go there. I have frequented Jo Mama's three times now and can officially say I am a fan. Twice I have had the Scary Mary (Tomato, Bacon, scallions and 3 pepper Diablo spread on your bagel of choice) and I recently got the Kickin Chicken (chicken, fresh mozzarella cheese, basil and chipotle dressing on a cheddar bagel) with an espresso. I like a little kick with my sandwich, which both sandwiches provided. The Scary Mary was great for a late breakfast when I wanted a something a little more substantial than a bagel and the Kickin, while a little messy, was a great lunchtime sandwich. Jo Mama's is a pretty tiny place, with a friendly staff and some great sandwich selections. They also have a make your own sandwich menu, where you choose a bread, meat, cheese and three toppings. I always love a good bagel place, and finding one this good (on Cape Cod, no less) was a real treat. read more

My first run-in at Jo Mama's left me a little blase. The place is cramped and if you're the beyond the third person in line, then you're standing outside. It's one of those places that gives you this sense of urgency and panic when you walk in. Or maybe that's just me. When I first visited, I was on the night shift, so I wasn't drinking coffee in the morning. Also, I just got an egg and cheese on a english muffin with soy bacon. The sandwich had all the trappings of most Cape Cod cafes: microwaved egg and unbuttered bread. God I miss my bodegas with their greasy fried eggs on a Portuguese roll, wrapped in foil. But I really wanted to like this place. I mean, vegetarian breakfast on Cape Cod. I know when I can't be a chooser. So I withheld my judgement until I could go back a few more times. Next time I got the veggie egg sandwich with veggie sausage on a bagel. It came on the wrong bagel, which pissed me off, but the sandwich was much better. My boyfriend even questioned whether it was actually veggie sausage. Still not the best tasting egg though. Damn those microwaves. Next time, I went with the Jose Madre burrito. This was damn good. The microwaved egg isn't as noticeable in a wrap and the beans and salsa made for a nice flavor. Next time, La Bomba burrito. This is with refried beans and some spicy chipotle sauce. Probably a zillion calories, but I got it with veggie bacon (duh, at this point) and it was delicious. Boyfriend was cray jealous. So the burritos won me over, although I do wish they were bigger. Most recent visit was special trip bcs not only did I get lunch, but I finally got to try their coffee. Of course I went with the espresso bomb, which is basically a vanilla frappe blended with chocolate covered coffee beans and oh my sweet god whoever invented that is my second favorite coffee inventor. The sandwich (Avocado BLT on rosemary focaccia) was amazing, and I ate it in such a way that my dining companion asked if I was high. Chewing was optional. That's how good it was. So with the delicious burritos and the fantastic lunch and coffee, combined with a mega cute set up and the offer of vegan meat options (chicken, bacon, and sausage), I have to say that my initial lukewarmness has heated nicely. I highly recommend Jo Mama's. Just get there early bcs it's a tight squeeze in there and I bet it's just going to get worse in summer. read more

First of all, before I officially start my review, I would like to address everyone saying that the bagels here are similar to those of dunks. I don't know where you go to Dunkin' Donuts and are able to get this variety but also the soft fluffy thick bagel with just the right amount of crispness to the edges that they have at Jo Mamas, but please tell me - because my Dunkin's have nothing but over cooked dense bagels. Now for my review! I highly suggest the Garlic Bagel. It's amazing. And if you're a fan of Avocado, thick cut Bacon, Tomato, Cheese and Garlic Aioli I'm begging you to get their ABC sandwich. The upcharge to a fluffy bagel for $1 is worth it. But I don't suggest you eat it while driving- it's a bit messy, but most real good food is. The only complaint I have is in regard to the beverages. Not a huge fan of the coffee or the iced tea, but that's strictly my opinion, I am really picky about beverages anyway. Just go here. Breakfast. Lunch. Go here! read more

Great bagel and breakfast sandwich spot. We were about to pull into the Dunkin' Donuts across the street when we saw this tiny place. Whenever we can support a local establishment over the evil DD, we will! Bagels were very good, as were the sandwiches. I looooooove the bagels here. I've had the multigrain with cream cheese and let me just say how much I appreciate the amount of cream cheese they slather on. I also love that the bagel is served as a whole bagel but cut in half. Hard to explain but you'll know what I mean when you get one. Anyhow, the hot chocolate wasn't great, but the coffee was perfect. The music (think Backstreet Boys station) was a little loud in the morning but when I came back for a lunch sandwich (yep, that good!) it was turned down. A great spot that shouldn't be overlooked for a lovely NY bagel and coffee. The lunch sandwiches are awesome, too. You can pick from a list or build your own and there are tons of options. Went in to the Brewster location to find a sign "no bagels" and a massive line (for what, I do not know). We called the Orleans location and they had 6 kinds left after the holiday rush. We drove over. I wanted a Chai Latte but they use a powder mix versus a real spice blend so I opted for Green Tea. The hot water was not hot and they gave us the wrong order. The bagels are TERRIBLE, super dry and mealy. The cream cheeses don't have enough flavor at all ( i should know i'm eating lox spread and one of the sandwiches we got had some kind of diablo pepper spread with no bite whatsoever). My husband didn't even finish his despite having gotten a meat-lovers omelette on it. We got lunch to go as well, that was the sandwich with the flavorless spread - i believe it was a cuban - had no flavor and the foccacia bread was the best part of it. My husband is a glutton for punishment so the next day we go a sandwich here again, this time a wrap - forgot what it was called but it had chicken and mozarella - it tasted all cheese and mushty tomato.
