They recently catered at my work. I was a little worried when I first came by and paid. Initially called and received no follow up call. So I popped in. A few people at my work like this place and requested it for lunch. We purchased a family meal. There was a delivery fee. I didn't feel that confident and I'm neurotic about being organized so I made a copy of my receipt noting delivery time, date, food requested, etc. I dropped it off the next day and also ordered a combo plate to try it out. Very good as far as BBQ goes. Fair prices and much better quality than most bbq joints. I started feeling much better about throwing business towards a non-chain restaurant. I am astonished by the love this place receives. I have only tried it once- maybe I'm missing something, so I'll go back some other time, but my first trip was less than impressive. Because the chicken wasn't ready for some reason at noon (?), instead of the chicken and rib combo I got a rib and hot link combo with beans and potato salad. The lady behind the counter was very unfriendly and uncommunicative. I wasn't quite sure she was getting my order because she didn't respond much. The ribs were okay but unremarkable. There wasn't a lot of flavor, so I can't say if there was any kind of rub on them, and hardly any hint that they'd spent time near smoke. The hot link was some packaged thing you can buy at the store and the sides were definitely pre-packaged and probably gotten from Costco. The beans were straight out of a can- overly sweet and uniformly of the same texture, just like any of the canned beans- and the potato salad was clearly from a plastic container- bland and flavorless. There are stacks of bread rolls in the bags they were purchased in behind the counter. It feels like hardly anything is actually cooked on site. The meats clearly are as there's a big smoker outside but everything feels like it's done kind of half-heartedly. I don't feel any love in the food at all. Had the brisket sandwich and it was very tasty. Meat was succulent and tender, sauce was flavorful and robust, and the place was very clean. The staff was very friendly. I have to admit the sandwich size was modest for me, but for the price it was reasonable. Maybe it was just too good and I wanted more. I'll definitely be back to get more of the menu. read more

The food was great especially the brisket but be careful when you order takeout. My husband and I ordered and paid for the dinner combination which should have 2 ribs, 2 pieces of chicken and slices of brisket. However, to our disappointment, the box contained only 1 rib, 1piece of chicken and 2 thin slices of brisket. We were stuck with what was given as it's not worth the time and gas to go back. My lunchtime bbq pit in San Jose. I always get the #10...rib, brisket, and sausage, along with baked beans, roll, and potato salad. The sausage is a good foot long size, the brisket is always nice and tender, and the meat on the ribs always just falls off the bone, so the quality of food is never in question, always delicious :-) If you like spicy, i would recommend the hotlink...a nice kick! Prices have gone up, so now the meal is $15. It did used to be $12.50 from what I can remember, but nothing comes cheap in the Bay Area anymore. Happy Eating! read more

I came here for the first time yesterday. Had the #2 (2 ribs and 1 hotlink). Ribs were tender and the hotlink was cooked as it should be. No choices for sides here besides the set potato salad and baked beans. Sides are flavorful. This is a plate you would expect to get at a summer picnic bbq. Definitely not gourmet, but satisfying in it's own way. Pretty straight forward, cashier did not talk much. Line at noon on Monday was fairly long, but once you place your order, the food comes out fairly quickly. read more

Good but expensive. These Bay Area barbecue prices are getting a little outrageous i'm from Texas where barbecue is budget friendly.

I don't post on here often but an e-mail just popped up and I wanted to sing these guys some praises. Smoking Pig is probably the most known BBQ joint in the area, but Jon Jon's is definitely the best, and has the feel to me as the 'realest'. It can be a bit slow to place an order when they're busy, but it's well worth it and the food always comes out quick. I usually get the combo that comes with ribs, chicken, and a hotlink, and... Best hotlink ever! Ribs and chicken are always cooked perfectly. Rib tips are also dank, but come early if you want these as they sell out fast. They generally blast you with sauce on everything, so ask for it on the side. Beans and potato salad are on the sweeter side, and the combo comes with a pretty basic roll. Easy to find, just come and park on the street, it's very low-key. But just like any good BBQ, people line up fast and the food can sell out, so come get it while it's hot. read more

I stopped by Jon Jon's BBQ as I was driving around the neighborhood. I had made a wrong turn and seen your establishment and had to pull over to check out your restaurant. As I stepped out of the car, I had a feeling it was going to be GOOD! Your place reminded me of a BBQ in Bakersfield, CA that smokes their meats, has tables outdoors for the public and makes some mean BBQ. I went inside and looked over your menu and made the decision to order the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The gentlemen took my order and prepared my meal to go. He and I spoke about the food and how I will be very pleased with the meal and will be back. I told him I defintely will as I can tell the food was going to be very very good. As I carried it out to the car, it felt like it was filled to the rim. When I got home and opened up the food container, it was just as I expected. The meats were plentiful, the baked beans were the right amount for one with some sweetness in the sauce. Loved it! I'm from the south and I have to say that this is the best BBQ that I have had in California. Super nice staff, quick to serve and everything was delicious! The #9 with an extra rib on the side is my personal favorite.Hands down the best brisket I have ever had. You can tell they put a lot of time, thought and love into their food... all three of which, to me, is what good BBQ is all about. The only thing that can be a little rough is parking, so do plan ahead and be patient. One of the things I hate most about BBQ joints in CA is inflated pricing... this place is 100% on point with appropriate pricing and frankly, the food is a million times better than the unmentioned places I've been to. read more

Really good barbecue - delicious brisket, hot links, ribs, beans, etc. Our meals had sauce on the side, so we could get as much or little as we wanted. This is a no frills kind of place with good solid bbq offerings, including today's special which was a seafood gumbo. A gentleman walked by with a bowl of this and it smelled heavenly. The Wednesday special was pretty good but a little dry. I felt that it was pretty pricy for what it was, especially considering that the restaurant itself is not the cleanest place. The plastic utensils were very flimsy and difficult to cut the meat. The potato salad and beans were good! The bread was hard and I could only take one bite. No one there is very friendly, but a lot of customers came through while I was eating there. I wouldn't come back unless I was REALLY REALLY craving BBQ. read more

Jon Jon's is just your average BBQ place (except for the lack of brisket...) 'Tis located in a trailer park, and only takes cash. Definitely not the greatest environment to enjoy your meal. The prices on the menu are also incorrect (I assume, since they didn't give me a receipt because it was a cash transaction. Perhaps they just gave me incorrect change, which isn't great either...) A rib meal comes with a half slab of spare ribs, baked beans, potato salad & 2 slices of bread. The meats are overly sauced. The ribs are very boring. It isn't cooked awfully, but the rub used must be very minimal. There was just some smoke, and then all sauce. Furthermore, the sauce is very generic as well, thus it makes for a very boring barbecue. The baked beans and potato salad tasted like they were out of a can. (I don't know if they were, but they were very lackluster even if they weren't) The bread was just plain ol' white bread. Not toasted, not buttered, just straight out of a grocery store loaf. There are dessert options which was nice. I always like sweet potato pie. ________ Conclusion: A very boring barbecue experience. It might fill a void if you are really craving some generic barbecue, but why bother? Smoking pig is right around the corner, has a better environment, takes credit cards, is not much more expensive & most importantly, the food is far, FAR superior. read more
