Two Meat Meal Half Chicken (GF) Hot Links (GF) Garlic Bread, Loaf (V) Mac and Cheese (V)
    Debbie S.

We had the 2 Meat Combo and it was fantastic! I ordered the hot links and chicken with garlic bread, and everything was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The flavors were on point, and you can tell the food is made with care. The customer service was super kind and incredibly friendly--they made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. If you're looking for a great hole-in-the-wall BBQ spot with amazing food and even better hospitality, South Winchester BBQ is definitely worth checking out. We'll definitely be back!

Tri-tip sandwich, barbecue sauce, and a side of coleslaw

The best barbecue in the South Bay, and well-deserved, South Winchester BBQ offers juicy, smoked meat sandwiches, delicious sides, and community. Meat-lovers' heaven? An unforgettable barbecue sandwich experience? You'll find both here at South Winchester BBQ. I was in the mood for a good barbecue sandwich and found myself at South Winchester BBQ. The sun shone high, the breezes blew gently, and it was busy with lunch goers that day. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich with a side of coleslaw and got myself a glass of water. Then I went outside to the patio where families and friends ate their lunches while their dogs looked on. The patio was sheltered from the street and provided a quiet place for community to gather over good food and drink. It would be a wonderful spot to enjoy my meal. My name was called, and I went to get my sandwich. The first bite was excellent! Juicy meat slices accented with the robust, savory, light sweet notes of smoked California oak wood. Fresh buns buttered and lightly toasted on the flats. Brought together as a well-done sandwich, every bite was savory meat and spiced rub, sweet barbecue sauce, and light crunch of toasted bread. The coleslaw was finely chopped cabbage tossed in a creamy, mildly sweet dressing, with a dusting of cracked black peppercorn on top. A welcome refreshing side to my tri-tip sandwich, the coleslaw cleansed the palate and balanced out my rich meal. The tri-tip sandwich and coleslaw sure paired up to pack a delicious punch. South Winchester BBQ was a definite win in my books. Next time I want a good barbecue sandwich, I'll come back for more. I know I'll be in for a delightful time!

I was a bit shocked and disappointed since there were so many great reviews about this place! The food looked great when it came out, but the flavors did not quite meet expectations. The ribs were tender and nicely sauced but nothing particularly memorable. The brisket was soft but lacked flavor, and while the pulled pork was decent, the tri tip was extremely dry. The cornbread and beans were also underwhelming and could have used more flavor. The mac and cheese was the standout and easily the best item of everything ordered. I visited for dinner around 7:30 pm and thought maybe it's because it's the end of the night? But I've been to other BBQ restaurants around the same time or even later and have never experienced this before! I do really appreciated how clean and well kept the space was though! The outdoor seating area is especially cute and makes it a nice spot to sit and enjoy your meal! The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience feel comfortable from the start! The atmosphere and service were strong, but I wish the food matched that same level.

Came in hoping for a solid BBQ meal, but unfortunately it may have just been an off day for them. The place has a casual laid back BBQ atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience better. The ribs and brisket were both lacking flavor and didn't really have that smoky BBQ taste we were expecting. The bread pudding was also extremely dry. Hoping they were just having an off night because the service itself was great.

I went to this place craving some barbecue, and was met with diverse results. First, I wanted to highlight the service being great. The workers were helpful and responsive to my questions and concerns Next, in consideration of a busy restaurant, food was pretty quick to come out. My first low being the food. Food was decent but did not match my standard. For the price it was reasonable, but definitely some better options out there. My second low is the fact they ran out of food and stopped serving people before closing. I understand it's a busy restaurant, but leaving some people empty handed does not me satisfied.

4 meat combo with corn bread, potato salad & coleslaw.

Alrighty. Here goes. Corn bread was ok and a little lacking. Potato salad was just ok. Cole slaw was really good. Burnt ends were more like burnt fat ends and were either very hard or very soft like fat, don't recommend the burnt ends. Ribs were awesome. Tritip was great as well. Brisket was really good as well. Blue berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream was excellent way to end tonight's dinner. Thanks to the staff for their hospitality. God Bless.

I totally forgot about this place. I have been here years ago to pick up some sides for a family get together. My buddy asked me if I wanted to grab dome bbq and he chose this place. As I was driving, I missed the turn into the parking spot but there was another entrance right behind that wraps back to the lot. I did the same mistake when I came here the first time which is why I remembered this place once I arrived. There is a good amount of parking spaces. When you enter inside, there are two cashiers where one is for to go order and the other is for dine in. They have a soda fountain machine right behind the register that you can self serve and at the end, there are beers on tap. I decided to go for the 3 meat combo (tri tip, brisket, and ribs) which cane with two sides of your choosing (mac and cheese and potato salad). There are plenty of open seating when we went there around 3:30pm. The food came out pretty quickly. They have regular bbq and spicy bbq near the side door that you can get for your bbq. I tried the sides first and they still taste amazing like when I first tried it years ago. The brisket had a really good smokey flavor and was tender. The tri tip was juicy and packed a good flavor. The ribs were also really good. The meat did not slide off the bone as I'm use to but the meat on the rib was not dry at all. Dipping the meat in the spicy bbq sauce gave it more flavor if you like to use bbq sauce on your bbq. The staff were very helpful and didn't rush us when we were still trying to figure out what to order. There are to go boxes where the bbq sauces are which made it very convenient for both the customers and this allowed the staff to focus on the food and service. If you like bbq or even bbq sides, this place is a good spot to hit. It is in the middle of the city so it's a few miles away after you exit the freeway.

Ask the Community - South Winchester BBQ

On their DoorDash, it says that the breakfast taco is made with pulled pork. But then it requires you to select a different meat. Pulled pork is not one of the options. Can anyone explain this?

They offer 3 options pork brisket or tritip for their choices preferably order from their website as sometimes the DoorDash app is "off" or they were out of that particular meat that day

    Do they take reservations?

I don’t think so, you order at the counter pay for it, pick it when they call you number or name.

Does the bbq sauce or the beans contain pork?

    They do not.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon for lunch recently. The restaurant is located in downtown San Jose off north 1st street. Parking is accessible in the back parking lot. A full service bar is located to the right as soon as you walk in. The restaurant is clean and has nice modern decor. The vibe is welcoming and bustling. We ordered uncle Greg's smoked ribs with cornbread, candied yams, and rice, beef brisket with cornbread, coleslaw, and mac & cheese, watermelon lemonade, lemonade, and a glass of Chardonnay. Everything was delicious and hearty. Both the ribs and beef brisket were tender and juicy. All the sides complemented the bbq meats very well. The candied yams were sweet and tasty. Mac & cheese were creamy and gooey. The cornbread was tasty and moist in the inside. Both lemonade drinks were refreshing and hit the spot. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Jackie's Place. The staff were so nice and attentive. I appreciated the cozy and family friendly atmosphere. Price point was fair. I definitely want to come back to try the happy hour and of course other items on the menu.

The location that we went to is located next to Maggiano's Little Italy in Santana Row on Olin Ave. There is a free 2 hour parking structure across of the restaurant where my boyfriend and I parked at. We came during their Lunch Specials (until 4pm) and Happy Hour (from 3-5:30pm) which worked perfectly as we wanted something smaller in portion compared to the dinner portions. We started off with drinks. I got their Pig Ol' Bitties Blonde Ale, and my boyfriend got their Friday Beer & Shot special of This Little Piggy Went to [Mark]et with a 16 oz Dirty Little Pig IPA and a shot of Benchmark whiskey. My fault for having him get a whiskey shot on an empty stomach, though HAHA. He did like how smooth the whiskey was at least! We shared a 2-meat BBQ Lunch Combo Plate, and honestly, we should have gotten 3 meats because of how tender and delicious everything was! We got their Tri Tip and Sliced Brisket with their Garlic Mash and server recommended Sweet Potato Tots. Ahhh, everything was so good! Aside from the tender, flavorful meats, the two sides, especially the garlic mash, were sooooo good. We both loved everything! It was definitely a great choice coming during lunch as we were quite full after ordering one of their happy hour shareables of Chips & Queso (kind of pricey even for happy hour in my opinion for chips and cheese). Honestly wished we got their Chili Cheese Fries or their other fries which were the same price than just chips and dip LOL. But it was a good hold over food with us drinking a bit (at least for me). Shoutout to the only server who was working on a late Friday afternoon as she was doing her best to accommodate everyone + trying to clean up the previous tables. It was kind of sad seeing that the other workers didn't help bus the tables in my opinion. Overall, a great place to watch sports and have some good whiskey as this restaurant is known for their whiskey selections! The lunch BBQ exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely come back for another lunch special meal but probably with 3 meats this time!

I ordered one of their meal packages, plus some extras on the things we needed more of. the meal package was supposed to include 2 types of bbq sauce plus ranch for the wings. they didn't give us any of the bbq sauces or the ranch. considering they charge $5 each for sides of sauces, that's $15 they shorted me. so we had dry chicken wings with nothing to dip them in... which means nobody wanted to eat them. there's another $25 I was out. we ended up having to use the bottled sauces that I bought as a gift... another $20 gone. pulled pork was fine. the brisket was pretty tough. my dad usually loves leftovers and didn't want to keep any of it... so that said a lot about the meal all by itself. the positives (?): cornbread was pretty good. wolf turds were good (though crazy expensive for what they are - only 2 come in an order for over $10). mac and cheese was good, though it has far less meat than it used to. all in all, not a positive experience. seems like they've really gone downhill. if you order to go, check your order carefully before you leave. they had everything ready when I got there and had tied the bags shut (double knotted), so it would have been hard to get them open. do yourself a favor tho and take the time to open each bag. it sucks to get all the way home and find key items were left out.

We ordered the goat curry, mac and cheese, mixed veggies, collard greens, vegetable curry, beef patty, and two orders of fried cornmeal bread... all for a family of 3 (the 3rd human being a 14 month old hahaha). I thought I can give the baby the vegetable curry, but it turned out to be too spicy so hence why we got the mac and cheese and plain mixed veggies. Everything was fire! Luckily, we had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The beef patty was yummy, but I do wish it came with some type of dipping sauce. All the dishes tasted authentic, I felt like I was back in Jamaica.
