The brunette working there looked me up and down and obviously, incorrectly assumed I was a college student with no money. She was very rude and shifted me to another stylist. So disappointed. I went into get gel removed and just a manicure and was shamed into getting a French manicure like she had. I was asked to wait and then shamed into getting my hair cut. I asked for just a trim on my long hair that was down to my back and when she was done, it was a little past my shoulders. Told only 3 inches cut and clearly was 10". Didn't wanted my hair dried or curled, just a cut and she insisted the cut was $55 and curl and blow dry was already included. Finally time for manicure and shamed into having other girl busy while closing so made me get a pedicure. Pedicure are normally $20' they charged me $30. Gel manicure is normally $25-30, I was charged $40. Then the whole time they talked loudly in Vietnamese. I couldn't relax. I am so stressed I was forced to pay $125 when I only went into get gel removed and manicure. My hair is 10" shorter and can't wear the way I wear it for work. I'll never go back read more

Clean and friendly. I am staying with a friend in Foot Hill Ranch and hasn't had a cut since November. You know how sometimes it's been SOO long since you got a cut that you're nervous to get it done at a new place? I came in wanting side swept bangs and I left with an awkward half bowl cut. I am going to have to bobby pin back half of these "bangs" for the next fucking year or two until I can maybe blend it in with the rest of my hair. This is such a mortifying haircut that I am embarrassed to even go out in public. It's going to take a dizzying amount of my time EVERY GOD DAMN MORNING to try to fix these bangs, which is a big deal for a woman who never spends more than five minutes on her hair in the morning. Just moved to the area and hadn't gotten any highlights in a few years because I got pregnant with my son and then had my son and was not able to commit the time to going to get my hair done since I was nursing and the baby needed me often. Wanted something bolder and loud for the summer and because I'm currently a stay-at-home-mom raising my son and I know I'll have to start up my professional career again soon and wanted to play around while I have the chance. Finally went in and although the stylist Matthew was very nice he seems nervous and not confident at all in what he was doing. The haircut wasn't good; it wasn't crooked but it wasn't done very well. There was no texture and no life. My bangs were side-swept before and now they look really odd and are long in really weird places. I tried to explain this to him while I was there but he didn't understand and couldn't fix it. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, so I let it go. The color... I asked for electric purple... like bright purple and even brought in photos. He consulted Jennifer (sister to the shop owner) and they came up with a "plan" which resulted in my hair looking NOTHING like what I wanted. Not just that but there was NO purple showing at all. Even his reaction (though he tried to hide it) was of disappointment. Everyone tried to play it off like it looks good, which I hate when stylists do that... when it really didn't. I wasn't feeling too good, but thought maybe it would look better once I got used to it and played with it. I got home and tried to toss it around and move the layers around but I STILL couldn't see the purple and the blond highlights were not at all what I wanted either. I paid them $100 for this terrible job! Oh and he smelled heavily of cigarette smoke and so did my hair when he was done. I already scheduled a smoothing treatment with the salon for next week, so I left the appointment scheduled and thought and belly-ached about it for a few days and pst the weekend so my sister could see the hair. Both my sister and husband didn't notice or say anything about my hair. Both of them have commented EVERY OTHER TIME I've gotten my hair done, even on a trim, but this time NOTHING. I have dark brown hair and they didn't even notice the blond highlights which I haven't gotten in my hair for 4 years. The day before the smoothing treatment the owner Julie called to confirm the appointment which I then voiced my opinions she said they wanted to fix it but then after speaking to her gave me no confidence that they could accomplish what I wanted and they wanted to let Matthew do it again... since he wanted to "guarantee" his work. I understand that they are independent contractors so its hard to have someone else fix their work, but in this case, I wasn't going to let someone which so much inexperience or lack of confidence touch it again and she didn't understand that. So I offered up the suggestion of having someone else do extensions to speed up the time since I have a baby at home to tend to and I can't sit through another session of processing and lifting. Julie said they would have to order the hair from India which I understand then that that wouldn't be possible for the appointment tomorrow, but I wanted my hair done for my upcoming birthday. Julie then said "we can't get the hair from India by tomorrow and I'm trying to accommodate you for your birthday", I told her that she wasn't accommodating me but rather I was trying to give them the opportunity to correct their first mistake and I understood that a package could not get here from India in one day which I why I asked if they ALREADY had it on hand. She then told me that I was being hostile at her and that she was trying to HELP me... I just told her to cancel my smoothing treatment and I'll go somewhere else and she HUNG UP on me! I've never had to go back to a salon to get my hair redone before unless it was an "experiment" that I agreed to. Most stylists are realistic about what they can and cannot do and most listen to what you want. I actually signed up for Yelp to post this because no one deserves this treatment, especially a mom who has no time already and who is trying to pamper herself and do something for her for once. I am giving this salon an all around zero star rating, the one star was for Matthew being a nice guy. read more

I have to agree with everyone that YES - the staff is VERY nice. The only problem I have is I often feel pressured to upgrade to additional services etc. Whether is gel for the nails.. getting my hair colored (ive never colored my hair and im not going to start now) or waxing my lip when all i want are my brows done. This last Friday I visited for a simple wash, blow dry and flat iron (I was going to a wedding). During the evaluation Mimi told me I had lots of split ends. Really????? I just got my hair cut 8 days ago. My normal hair dresser (for many years) would have said something. I'm normally told I have very healthy hair. Mimi kept pressing the fact that I needed a hair cut to remove the split ends. I replied several times, no thank you - I dont have time. Still she insisted at least 4 times... to the point I thought perhaps she was going to do it for free - and I said yes (i know.. my fault). half way through my haircut I hear the guy saying the same exact thing to a new customer.... almost to the "T". I knew then this was an upsell tactic. Oh... she charged me for the haircut. The haircut that I didnt need...... saddened that I feel taken advantage of because I'm too kind to say no. I wont be visiting this salon again - not even for a quick blow out. read more

I just wanted to share my new good experience in Foothill Ranch / Lakeforest area. I stopped by the Jon Paulo salon on Thursday afternoon to just want to have a trim. I was greeted very nice by Mimi, the salon manager. After sitting down in her chair, she politely asked me if i wanted to touch up the color of my hair since my grey hair started showing. I agreed to do it and i really loved how Mimi really took her time to carefully color my grey roots. I walked out of the salon feeling fresh and rejuvenated. What a nightmare!!! Just got my hair done here, and I should've taken all the red flags as a sign before I saw the finished product! The first red flag was that my appointment was supposed to be with Mimi. Mimi did indeed greet me, but she sat me in a chair and I waited around for 10 minutes before anyone greeted me. This woman started coloring my hair, she was very nice and worked hard..but unfortunately she didn't blend the color (a single color process of dark brown onto medium brown) and the color turned out spotty and striped. I feel like some sort of jungle cat! I asked to speak with Mimi, she tried convincing me the color turned out this way because of my highlights. I didn't have highlights! Mimi asked me to show we in the mirror outside, and as I was going through my hair I noticed more spots without color, to which she then took the mirror away from me. So unprofessional! I told her I would pay for the cut, but not for the color. Also, I was haggled by the nail attendants a few times, one lady even came over and told me to get my nails done while putting her hand on my shoulder, lingering it there for awhile even after I said no thank you. This place was awkward, awful and uncomfortable. I will NEVER go back! read more

Being new to the area, I was at a quandary as to where to go for my hair color and cut. While shopping at Ralph's next door, one day in March, I saw a large banner advertising a March haircut special. Yes, I'll admit it, I'm cheap when it comes to spending money on my hair. I've had some very bad expensive haircuts as well as some inexpensive ones, and coming from Texas, I am still suffering from sticker shock. So... I've been hopping around since we moved back to California a couple of years ago. I decided to give Jon Paolo a try and walked in to make an appointment. I was greeted by a very friendly gal who said if I had no preference, she, "Mimi," would be the hairdresser doing my hair. When I went in on the day of reckoning, I explained what I wanted to Mimi. I needed to have my two inch roots touched up and wanted to keep my wedged bob style cut shorter. She advised that it would be best for me to redo all the color in my hair using highlights and low lights and said she would do it at no extra charge. I'm so glad I decided to try Jon Paolo. It will definitely be my hair salon for as long as we live in this area, and Mimi will be my go-to gal for all my hair salon needs. I have to give her a lot of kudos for doing a great job. Even my husband who usually doesn't seem to notice, commented on how great my hair looked. I have been extremely happy with the color and the cut, the best I've ever had!
