I call back and the nasty lady tells me that this has been an issue in the past and that they are aware that United Healthcare thinks they are in network but in fact, they are not! Ummm....lady, don't you think it's your job to tell the patient when they call and ask if you accept their insurance (Especially since this is CLEARLY AN ISSUE?) She said, we do accept your insurance but we are out of network so that means insurance barely pays towards your bill. Can you say...LOOP HOLE?! Well, she was rude and Dr. Gordon kept cutting me off and telling me it's his time to talk. Stay away from this office. The operate like they are out of the 1950's. Moral of the story-always double check and ask if you are in network with any doctor you make an appointment with and do not rely on them to give you clear information.

I was misdiagnosed by two different doctors, yet Dr. Dorfman correctly diagnosed my issue (rather serious) over the telephone, without even looking in my mouth! Yes, he is that good. In addition to Dr. Dorfman, who will keep tweaking your dental work until it is absolutely perfect....you want your dentist to be a perfectionist....there are other experts on staff here. Endodontists, orthodontists, gum specialists, and this means that you can get all of your dental work completed in one location. There is none of this: get ex-rays here, go to someone else for fillings, see someone else if you need a root canal, etc. Truly one stop shopping. I saw Dr. Dorfman's advertisement in New York magazine and made a visit. His practice is like no other I've been to. Dorfman has a blue-chip background - college and dental school at the University of Penn and a tech-geek bent that makes him the first on the dental block to learn all the new tools and techniques. I first spoke to him about whether I should invest in braces or do cosmetic dentistry. He felt the healthiest option was for me to do braces - something his practice had no affiliation in at that time, but given I had no patience, I asked about what cosmetic dentistry could offer. I appreciated that he gave me an honest answer that did not increase his bottom line. Needless to say given I did not want to have a rack of metal in my mouth, I forgo braces and opted to do some cosmetic dentistry to even out my smile. Dr. Dorfman did the job in two visits back in 1993 and to this day, no one can tell that some of my teeth are laminates and bonded and the work has stood the 21-year test of time. They look and feel great after all these years. It was not inexpensive but is was money well-spent. I don't have dental insurance so I believe in working with the best dental practice I can. The Center for Special Dentistry does outstanding work and is a friendly and calm place to get dental work done.

I found this out shortly before an appointment, and informed that my insurance is now Out of Network, meaning I would need to pay in full and then request reimbursement. I called my insurance company to verify this, and they confirmed that Dental Passion is still in network-- meaning I would not be eligible for direct reimbursement. When I called back to discuss this with the office, they admitted it will take several months before the transition to Zen Dental is complete. They insisted I would need to pay up front, even though my insurance would not agree to reimburse me given their current in-network status. Such a shame to see that this new practice is behaving unethically. Needless to say, I will be finding a new dentist.

I did not like the younger Asian gentlemen I had twice (don't think it was Dr. Shick but could be wrong); each time I saw him, I had teeth (different in each case) that were in imminent need of care as they were developing cavities. Next time I see another dentist, and there is no issue despite my home routine not changing; even when the previous doctor was showing me the X-rays he did, I didn't really see the issue then either. Extremely annoying that this guy wanted to do what would've been unnecessary work to charge more, however he didn't get it over on me and the actions of 1 person don't reflect on the rest of the staff. I'm finding a new dentist anyway since I've moved further away and they no longer accept my insurance. Would recommend giving this place a shot but just learning the names of the docs so you can keep seeing 1 you like versus who wants to max out your insurance.

I popped a few minutes early to fill out paperwork before my cleaning. Jessie warmly greeted me and had me fill out a new patient form and then I went in for x-rays. I was super happy with my x-ray experience. It is a standing machine. You bite down on a device once and then the machine revolves around your head, amazing! Saved a lot of discomfort from having to open and close your mouth for 10+ uncomfortable slides, especially for someone with TMJ like me. Dr. Brody reviewed my x-rays quickly and greeted me and asked me if I had any questions or concerns. He did a thorough cleaning and polish and I was done in under 20 minutes. I will definitely be back in 6 months for my next cleaning. The building is between 6 and 7th avenon 46th st across from Havana Central. They were filming something in front of the building that day, but I was still able to get into the building with no problems. You also need to show your ID when you get into the building.

We have been seeing Dr Hsu score several years. We even moved to NJ and still make the trek to see…read morehim since he's so good. He's always been very patient and explains things well. He sometimes also does the cleanings and is very gentle, as is Luis, one of the hygienists. We hadn't been in a while because I'm severely immunocompromised and get sick very easily. Since masking protocols have dropped most places, we were hesitant to make a visit. I was happy to find that Dr Hsu is still masking. He cleaned and examined my wife's teeth and wore an n95. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth, Luis, put a second mask on over his surgical mask when I said I was immunocompromised (I couldn't tell what it was...I can't see well without my glasses). He also pointed out the location of the air purifiers they have running in all the examination rooms and we saw one in the lobby as well. All other staff were wearing masks. Some surgical, others looked to be kn95 or n95. We also received a text before hand asking people to wear a mask and the patients we saw come in were abiding by that. They also have half walls for the exam rooms and the doors don't close, which is good for air quality/flow. My highest aranet reading was 883, when I was in the exam room. If you're not familiar with this tech, basically this number tells you how much "backwash breath" is in the air. Anything below 1000 means the room has pretty good/clear air filtration (as a comparison, it's usually a 500-600 reading outside). All in all, I was happy (but not surprised! At the added layers of protection the office has continued to observe. The staff, hygienists and dentists are all kind, competent and patient humans. I would highly recommend this office.
