Just finished an incredibly disappointing meal. Salad fair, lobster bisque fair at best. Service was ridiculously rushed, entrees were served 45 seconds after appetizers were cleared. Never offered a second drink and wouldn't have because the entrees were already served. Scallops entree, bread crumb toppings was greasy mush, scallops were flavorless, chefs veg was summer squash that was so salty I who loves salt couldn't eat it, mashed potatoes were luke warm. Seafood pasta advertised as whole picked lobster had an over cooked lobster tail no claws , 4 shrimp and 3 clams served over over cooked pasta for $41? . Chocolate mousse tasted like it came out of a box, blueberry crisp had a topping that was not crisp and tasted like uncooked flour. Do not waste your time or money. Looks nice , piano player was good, food is horrendous. read more

We were looking for a quiet place for outdoor dining and Jonathan's didn't disappoint. The setting in the parking was perfect with covered tents and soft music. Despite being short staffed, as everyone is these days, they provided everything we needed. The food was excellent and not overpriced. I got the lobster special (when in Maine) and it was priced comparably to the other entrees. Definitely will go back next time in the area read more

We've eaten at Jonathan's during 2 Ogunquit getaways over the last year, and we thoroughly enjoyed each visit. Funny that Old Village Inn is so heavily recommended in the area, but Jonathan's is so much better. Upon our most recent visit, we arrived close to 9PM in Ogunquit after dealing with some heavy traffic on our way to ME, and a call to the restaurant put us at ease. When we arrived, they had a table waiting for us overlooking the pretty rear garden. We enjoyed Calamari and the Crab Cakes for starters, which were outstanding. For dinner we enjoyed the Carmelized Salmon Filet and Mediterranian Pasta, and both were so delicious that we wished we had a home to take the leftovers to. We skipped dessert, but I enjoyed one of their signature Elderberry Martini's and he enjoyed his glass of red wine so much we have since bought the bottle a couple times. The only flaw was entertainment in an adjoining room that was a bit too loud for comfortable dining conversation. During our first visit, there was no entertainment scheduled that night, and that made for greater dining pleasure. If you're in Ogunquit, and you want a great, reasonably priced dinner, a bit off the beaten path, Jonathan's is the place to go. read more

My boyfriend and I happened upon Jonathan's while in Ogunquit this last weekend and were thrilled with our "discovery." We did not have reservations (it's "off season" so I wasn't too worried about not getting a table) and were seated promptly. Despite the fact that the room we were in was on the large side, the atmosphere still felt intimate and romantic... aided by the fabulous live jazz in the next room. The waitstaff was terrific and while we didn't indulge in appetizers or dessert, we did start our evening with their signature Elderberry Martini (amazing!) and our dinners were phenomenal--exactly what we were in the mood for--good old New England comfort food! My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his lobster in drawn butter with haricots verts and mashed potatoes and I savored every morsel of my caramelized salmon filet. Our evening was so enjoyable, in fact, that we decided to have brunch there the next morning. Once again, we were not disappointed. I would not hesitate to return! read more

What a dissapointment. Came here for my Birthday- terrible service, terrible experience overall. Server walks over, asks what we want, without even asking for a drink order or offering specials. After asking for a drink and waiting 20 minutes, received our appetizers and dinner all at once. Still no drink. Didn't see server once after giving food order. For spending $40 dollars on a mediocre steak with zero drink, lack of service, or any hospitality whatsover I am pretty shocked. Don't waste your time or money. read more

I've been to Jonathan's for several holiday brunches. They always have a nice band providing a soundtrack. I think that is a nice touch for a holiday morning. This Easter, it was a gospel act that was banging out Stevie Wonder and Leonard Cohen tunes alongside more religious stuff. Very cool! The food is mostly nice quality. They cheap out on the pastries unfortunately. I feel like they can do better than SAMs Club mini Danishes and cheap bagels. The omelette station kicks ass. They used a really tasty, high quality sharp white cheddar this year. Lots of fillings to choose from - it's not just ham, onions and mushrooms. That was the high point. The other food is hit or miss. The sides were mostly OK - bacon, sausage - but the home fries were dry, as were the waffles. There has to be a more effective way to retain moisture in these pans and keep the food from drying out. They do a real nice blueberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast. They are nice and thick slices. The carving station had a juicy pulled lamb shoulder, which I found interesting and quite tasty. Also had the usual ham and roast beef, both of which were fine. One of my favorite stations is the smoked salmon...both thinly sliced roll-ups and flaky fillets, with onions and capers for toppings. This is kind of becoming an Easter tradition for us. Our kids love it, I have a couple of mimosa's and the atmosphere is very nice. The price is decent too, but I'd rather pay another $5-7 a head for some higher quality options, including more lunch foods. We did Mothers Day brunch here too last year, but I think we will skip that this year and wait till next Easter. Side note - this place has a pretty diverse lineup of concerts, and it's an intimate venue. I've been waiting for something on the calendar that really turns me on, but I'm excited about doing dinner and a show here sometime. read more

Went for the menu advertised online it was not the current menu being served. Ordered a filet and it was overcooked. Sent it back for a redo, 2nd one was sent back as well as now undercooked. My entire family was able to finish eating while I had to wait for a redo on a steak that should only take 10 minutes. No offer to keep my sides so I at least had something to eat while waiting. My replacement also being wrong should not have taken 35 minutes to redo. No offer of apology when I told them to forget it and remove it from my bill. We had family in town visiting and wanted to get them a traditional boiled lobster dinner in Maine. Not only was I Unable to even eat with my family I then had to drive home 2 hours hungry since I didn't have any dinner. Then the waitress said the owner would remove my never eaten meal from the ticket. Well I would hope so since I didn't get to actually eat it!!!! Manager never even came over and spoke to us about the issues. Kids meals were overcooked as well. Overall not a great choice to go especially for the price they ask for each plate. This was the very last place we ate after spending 8 days dining our way through Ogunquit. For new parents, this place was perfect to bring a young one, it was super kid-friendly and the food was excellent. I got a sirloin with garlic butter sauce, and also a side of their homemade Worcestershire dipping sauce and it was soooooo good. Even the bread that came with the meal and the blueberry butter was good. Plus there's this garden surrounding the place which you can see from the windows and it's really magical. Went here for brunch recently as it was included in our package at a nearby hotel. It isn't really brunch, there are no lunch items on the menu which was fine with me. I got the Irish eggs benedict which is real (not canned) hash which was better than I expected. English muffin wasn't toasted enough. The little muffins they give you to start are a nice touch and were yummy. Nothing really too memorable about this breakfast-overpriced if you ask me, but that's how Ogunquit restaurants are. We had dinner at Jonathan's before Mary Poppins at the Ogunquit Playhouse. I had read mixed reviews, but was very pleasantly surprised! The service was great - no delay issues at all. We arrived at 6pm and were finished by 7:15pm (including dessert), plenty of time to get to the playhouse for a cocktail before the show. We had the Poached Lobster and Stuffed Haddock both were amazing. The Poached Lobster was the best lobster dinner I had in Ogunquit. Gotta love it when the shells and butter are already done for you! I was only surprised that the atmosphere was pretty casual. We expected more formal/romantic decor given the prices. There was a whole tour bus group dining in jeans/t-shirts when we were there. Not that we cared - but we were slightly over-dressed in casual dresses incomparison and it wasn't the romantic dining atmosphere we'd anticipated. read more

Really off night I hope. Our party of 7 was seated in the main dining room overlooking the giant fish tank and pretty gardens lit up at night. Great beginning but then quickly went downhill with very poor service. Wait staff inconsistent, not sure who was in charge of our table. Errors is food and drink order and long wait for everything. Food was good but not worth the hefty cost. $37 for a rib eye steak and barely warm mashed potato. Hope Jonathan can respire his waitstaff. read more

I've been to Jonathan's numerous times, usually in conjunction with a band playing in their upstairs room. This time it was Adam Ezra Group, one of our favorites and something not to miss when they are near Portland. The food is usually good, with some hits and some misses. The scallops were a standout and the margarita was wonderful. The duck breast special they had was spot on, but the pasta dish my wife had was just okay. It was a little bland in our opinion. The service and ambiance is always good, if a bit noisy but it is a large place and they are very gracious and took great care of us. read more

I do not mind paying hefty prices for a good meal. The prices are not capital grill level, but certainly way above 99... I've had better meals at the 99 on a bad day. This place needs to find the spice rack and add some life to the meals. Swordfish was good size but lacked any sauce or flavor. Steak tips had no flavor either. I will not return. read more

We came here for Easter Gospel Brunch. I had never been to the restaurant, but I assumed if you advertised it as a gospel brunch, you would be able to hear live gospel music while having brunch. The set up just does not work for this, though if you were seated at the bar, you could hear the band (which I would call blues - jazz, pretty far from gospel). Also, I would think if you advertised gospel brunch until 1 pm, the music would go that long. The band was out the door by 12:30. The room we were seated in actually had some other stereo piped in music playing, so we could hear strains of the distant band mixed in with some elevator music. Ugh... tough for my audiophile husband. Onto the food. It was mediocre. I will say our 8 and 10 year old daughters loved it and they each had several plates of food (omelets, carved meat, cereal, toast, etc). I enjoyed the omelet bar and some fruit, but that was about it. The pastries seemed old and like they came from aramark. No other deserts available. No salad or veggies. The quality was not anywhere close to what I would call fine dining. Perhaps the quality is better at a regular meal time. The service was pretty decent, nice wait staff, nice servers, etc. I would love to come back and hear some of the great performers they have lined up. read more

We were so disappointed with Jonatan's Ogunquit, which had 4.5 stars on certain sites and proclaims to serve " new American cuisine". The place was packed. I can't imagine why. No interesting or inventive dishes, no interesting drink menu. Okay, we reset our expectations and ordered wine with traditional meals (seafood stuffed haddock and seafood pasta along with some appetizers). Dishes were boring and I'm pretty sure the square of fish was frozen. Stuffed mushrooms were pretty to look at and not worth eating,mostly whipped cream cheese. Artichokes were the same - mostly melted cheese. We had a lot of people tell us that this restaurant was good so we tried it. I hope it was an off night but we will NEVER go back for an overpriced, barely okay meal. read more

Jonathan's is now open for lunch. I went today, and it was terrific. The menu is great and reasonably priced. On the waiter's recommendation, I tried the pulled pork sandwich. Sept 2018 - Plenty of seating and there is entertainment on the upper level (but call or go onto their website to see who is playing). We sat at the bar that had plenty of seating, and our Bartender, she was wonderful. There are flatscreen TV's throughout the bar area so you wont miss a thing. The food was fine, we ordered Appetizers- I ordered the Chilled Shrimp (Medium Size) served in a Big Martini glass over ice, but they forgot to add the cut lemon. My friend ordered the Eggplant Rollatini were they served qty 1, honestly this dish was just OK, but if you want a Rollatini that is amazingly delicious you need to come to Irvington, NY and go to Mima Vinoteca a read more

I've been to the music venue here many many times, while its a nice listening venue, it's definitely NOT worth the prices they charge for tickets, and the fact that if you want front row seats or pretty much any seat that's not in the very back of the venue, they force you to have dinner downstairs first. Even the tickets way in the back have an extra fee attached to them but they justify it by giving you a drink or dessert credit for during the show, even if you don't want the drink or dessert, you're forced to pay the extra fee. We had dinner here once and it will most definitely be the only time. Not only was it out of this world expensive, it just wasn't good. I got the filet mignon, I asked for it to be cooked to medium, it came to me absolutely rare, it was inedible so I asked for it to be cooked more and the waiter acted as though I was crazy for asking for it to be cooked more, he sighed and walked away with my plate. He came back about 4 minutes later with my plate and the steak was cooked slightly more but it was still too rare for me. At that point, I just ate the outer edges and left the rest. It was under seasoned, the vegetables were steamed perfectly but we're also under seasoned. The people who work upstairs in the music venue are always very nice, Duke is the best! read more

This was one of my goals while on vacation even though some reviews were downers. My husband and two children went for lunch. It was fabulovs. The only reason I gave it a four was the service was a bit slow but the staff was very attentive. The food and presentation was excellent. I wish there were more stars to give Jonathan's Restaurant in Ogunquit. On Wednesday December 12th my now husband and I had our wedding ceremony and dinner here. They were more than accommodating. The manager Larry was great! I couldn't have ask for a better wedding day and they had so much to do with it. On top of my special day, the food and service for dinner was perfect. The bartender and waitress we had both very friendly and knowledgable. Every appetizer, salad, soup and entree we had were all amazing. I can not wait to celebrate my one year wedding anniversary with Jonathan's! Hopefully I can get back before then! read more

The lamb shank is really good here. We sat down at 5:30 pm and the kitchen was out of them. Sadly ordered a steak, only to find out that there's no rice in the restaurant. Seriously dudes ... you can't keep a $0.99 packet of ready-to-go in 90 seconds rice in the house? Two of the people at our table of four were then told, sorry, but we're out of Tenderloin Steak. This is the evening of a ticketed event. You know how many people are coming. Could you be prepared? The self evident answer is that the restaurant has no customer focus. This is the second event I've attended with the same experience, so I guess this is what is to be expected. To their credit, the staff did remain in good humor while their management was berated for general incompetence. Lastly, and further evidence of complete disregard for guests, was the very pleasant but so poorly trained server. She spent minute after minute struggling to enter our order on an iPad. Poor software, poor training, and utter disregard by management for their guests. This place could be sooooo much better with sooooo little effort. read more

A friend and I made reservations at Jonathan's for this past Sat. evening based on previous reviews. We now wished we hadn't. We asked for a table by the fireplace but even though there were many open seats in front of it, we were, unfortunately, seated in a cold, drafty, dark back room. Immediately, we asked to move because of the excessive noise from a party in the abutting function room--which contained loud young children and even more loud adults who quickly drowned out any conversation we were trying to have, let alone the hope of a nice dinner with a reasonable noise level. We were moved to the opposite end of the dining area to no avail--the noise was truly some of the worst I've experienced at a dining establishment, especially one that is supposed to be more upscale than the local pub or chain restaurant. After reading another review from someone who was seated closer to the situation, I understand the staff was told several times the party had become rude, excessively loud, and unreasonable in addition to our mention of it. I noticed that it was left up to two gentlemen patrons closer to the noise to ask the party to please keep it down. We were close enough to hear that the first two requests were civil, but unheeded. Unfortunately, the party became rather retaliatory (more noise and threats to the gentlemen patrons) after being asked by the other patrons to please be quieter. On top of that, we paid $15 for four large shrimp as an appetizer, $9 for each dessert (my bread pudding was completely burned on the outside), $28.50 for a small 1.25 pound lobster dinner (small scoop of flavorless mashed potato and what tasted like a small frozen corn ear), and 1 small basket of bread (no refills)--$97 for both of us (no alcohol or beverages, water only)--the value wasn't there. The waitstaff was nice enough but not terribly attentive--we had to flag them down several times for water refills. We won't be going back. If you decide to go, my advice is to ask if there is a function that evening and if so, ask in advance to sit far, far away from it. It's not a good layout or design for functions when there are patrons nearby wanting a nice, quiet dinner. There are no doors on the function room that face the back dining area along with a large, open "pass through" window that allows more noise pollution. It was too expensive a place to have our meals ruined like that with no compensation except an apology from the acting manager. read more

While we realize their season has only just begun and some of the staff may be new, the service was awkward and poor overall. The very limited menu left us with very few options so we both settled on the pork schnitzel, which the waiter said was their post popular dish. One serving had a generous amount of gravy while the other was nearly dry which made us feel that the food was inconsistent. The pork was very crispy but flavorless. The warm potato salad was sour with too much vinegar and the cabbage side was bland. We barely finished our meal and decided to pass on dessert or coffee. We won't be returning to Jonathan's. My husband, myself, and 30 of our closest family and friends celebrated our wedding at Jonathan's in September 2019. It was flawless. They worked with us on menu and private room rental. They were extremely responsive to all my questions and last minute adjustments. And day of, when we arrived, they had set up a beautiful vase of fresh flowers on our sweetheart table and left us a card with congratulations and a gift card to the restaurant. The wait staff was kind and professional and I couldn't have asked for a better meal!!! I am so thrilled with our choice to have dinner here!! read more

Went there for dinner before a comedy show. Very much looking forward to it. Ordered drinks before dinner arrived, waitress brought over the wrong drink... when I asked her to bring the drink I ordered, she was polite, apologized and said she'd be right back. FIFTEEN minutes later, she returns, with the original drink and tells me that the bartender said I had the right drink. I told her to take it off the bill, I wasn't drinking it. They lost $$$$ because we had two hours to kill before our show. No problem, we were staying at the resort next door, just walked back to our room and had our cocktails for far cheaper. That aside, I had already ordered scallops before she came back, they were ok, small and a tad greasy, described on the menu as large, maybe they cut them in half, I don't know, but they certainly weren't large. For the price, $32, they weren't worth it. The skimpy scallops might have been acceptable if the service was better, we won't be back. read more

Eh, I am under impressed. The food was kind of blah, especially in comparison to all the other excellent places to eat in Ogunquit. We ate here as part of a show package- dinner before the show- however, they had no reservations available so we ate at about 5o'clock for a 8pm show. I'm curious why this place is so busy as the food was bland. The overall experience reminded me of a cruise ship dinner- lots of things that look good, but nothing tastes like you expect it to. We started with the Baked Artichoke Hearts and they were a bit too creamy/greasy. Then I had the scallops- again just eh. I would not go back and I'm sad that I wasted a meal on a subpar Ogunquit restaurant. read more

i ordered stuffed lobster and it was pretty good. a couple others ordered seafood cache- and neither of them liked it. so food generally average. the reason for 2 Stars was the service. the waitress just came up to us and just asked if we were ready to order without any type of greeting. ok- no big deal. we asked about any recommendations or specials and she just refused to say anything and it seemed like she just wanted to leave. we asked about sizes, etc and she just said she didn't know. -then another guy came and said he was also helping and i couldnt even get him to bring a lemon. after we finished entrees waitress came back and literally thew the desert menus at us. not one word- just dropped them on us. it was quite awkward. maybe she just had a bad day- not sure but it wasnt a good experience read more
