Cute retro joint to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Our soups were done well definitely from scratch. Rubin was lean, sauce was good. Tuna melt was very good also could of been a bit larger. If you are looking for a traditional "diner" experience, you must visit Joni's. We checked out of our hotel with the hope that we would be able to find breakfast without waiting too long for our meal and discovered this gem almost by accident. While the space inside is tight, people are always coming and going and even on a Sunday morning, we waited less than 10-minutes for a table. The coffee was excellent, which is the most critical breakfast item on the menu in my mind. We ordered omelettes, which were loaded with toppings. My wife's included a fantastic cream cheese filling that sounds like it shouldn't work but ended up being the absolute highlight of the meal. The rest of the sides are standard breakfast options and the food to price ratio leaned heavily toward the food side. The only reason for any concern is that with the small size of the venue the temp in the building was way warm for my liking. I prefer only to sweat during a workout and not during my breakfast. Overall this is a place I would recommend for a tasty breakfast that will not break the bank. read more

We had a quick breakfast here yesterday and it was a really old school, homestyle diner. The waitress was really friendly, and the food definitely hit the spot. It was also refreshing how cheap it was, as breakfast in Chicago can run you like $15/person or more. It think our total bill for two people was $18. read more

We love this old-school diner that's a very short walk from the heart of downtown. The shiny metal, the Formica tables & counters - it is retro diner heaven! Great selections for breakfast & lunch with speedy, friendly service. We sat at the counter and Shannon was our server - she's top notch! The rest of the staff was attentive & friendly as well. I had the BEST corned beef I've ever had here. I had the corned beef hash with eggs breakfast and I like that their hash was much chunkier than what you get at other places. This is one of those old silver 40s-50s dining cars...you know...the kind you see in a lot of movies. It is located off the main street and Lake Geneva. The food is incredible...banana pancakes, omelettes, and other comfort food items. The prices are reasonable, and you get plenty of food for the dollar. Parking in the lot is minimum, but there are some places you can park on the street. The best time to go is during the week, and make sure it's not during Lake Geneva tourist times, because it will be packed (Summer mostly). Check on the times. It's well worth the wait. read more

We drove past this diner a few times over our weekend away and thought we'd give it a try Sunday morning. Wow what a gem! One of my favorite breakfast meals is eggs benedict and some places are pretty good, but alot use what tastes like a powder mix for the sauce. As soon as I took my first bite, not only were the eggs cooked perfectly, but the sauce was amazing and clearly homemade. We will definitely come back to this restaurant again and again when we're in town. read more

Had a Denver omelet which was over cooked, hash browns that were just those stringy, frozen things. The best thing was my sour dough toast. This little gem is nestled between a Culver's, KFC, and McDonalds very close to the lake! Joni's has the old fashion diner vibe and a menu to match. I had the special, a triple decker turkey club, and it did not disappoint! The turkey was thick carved slices along with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo....yum! With the good price and generous portions...I recommend Joni's to anyone staying at Lake Geneva (especially The Cove Resort as it is right across the road;)). Enjoy! read more

Not a good experience. My wife had the tuna salad sandwich with a side salad and I had a Spring salad with blue cheese Her salad looked pretty bag when it came out and she found a hair in it. I'm surprised she didn't send it back. Her tuna salad sandwich was OK. Nothing special My salad was swimming in a blue cheese dressing when it came out.. disgusting. Like soup. I had to send it back. My family & I sat at the counter, I ran my hand under the counter and not only was it clean there's no dust anywhere! Eating at Joni's is like being invited to eat at a friend's home. Wow, what a great find! When we arrived I was drawn in by the theme and decor right down to the staffs uniforms. We started with the frickles ( fried pickles) delicious. Lightly breaded and fried to perfection not to salty which is usually the case. Next we tried the cheese curds, also a great choice, they make Wisconsin proud. For lunch we had the Ruben just the right mix or ingredients if you order this you will not be disappointed. My wife ordered the turkey club wrap which was very tasty. Fresh cut fries were a nice side. The burger was the only disappointment , dry with little flavor, the grilled onions were good. I wish I had room for a shake they looked good.
