Jonquils Cafe has been on my Boston list for the longest time. Their innovative cake designs made by 3D printed molds look 100% insta-worthy and are sure to captivate every girl. Honest thoughts: The cakes were indeed beautifully crafted, but $13 was overpriced. The cake quality didn't meet the steep price. The cafe was self-service and some furnitures were quite worn out. From their ig, I saw the price tag was ~$9 last year. It was aggressive to raise $4 within a year.....It would be more reasonable to charge at or under $10. ＊Autumn Leaf $13 * This seasonal special was my favorite. Spiced sponge and pecan crunch were wrapped inside the subtly sweet maple mousse, with a hint of banana flavor coming through midway. I had to visit and try one of the 3d desserts. I had heard a lot about these items due to social media hype. The looks of the items on display are so visually appealing. The cafe itself is clean and surprisingly large, with 3 levels of seating. I picked the geometric apple; made of cheesecake mousse, apple compote, caramel, dark chocolate crunch, and a chocolate sponge. I can happily say the dessert tasted as good as it looked. All of the layered flavors worked well together resulting in a delicious treat. $13 for one dessert is a splurge to me, but it was worth it. Service was fast and friendly. My friends and I stopped in after we were finished shopping and needed a cute little cafe to rest and recharge. Walking it, it was really busy! Very cute decor and actually a good amount of seating for how small the place was. Since it was a little later in the evening, we didn't get to try any of their sweet treats so I opted to get a LAVENDER LEMONADE. Very good, not too heavy on the lavender; a really balanced and refreshing beverage. Would definitely try and make it here for their treats next time, though! read more

There are very few places that can create an artistic pastry that actually taste really good. The pastries are beautiful, but for me, it ended there. Having sampled a few, there was nothing I would return for. I think they know that people will come just to take photos of their creations. And yes, the food is photogenic. The desserts here are super special! We got the pumpkin and chai ones, and I loved the chai one especially. The mousse was super fragrant and light. Each dessert had a unique combination of compotes, sauces, mouses, cakes, etc. and every one felt very distinct in character. They do look a bit silly and overpriced at first but they really do deliver in taste too. Each dessert is $13, which sis definitely pricey but I'm ok splurging sometimes on novelty. Finding Jonquils was a bit challenging as there's no sign outside like other stores, so we initially walked right past it. Once inside, the café has a sleek, modern design reminiscent of contemporary home interiors. However, the blue leather couch by the bay window was visibly worn--peeling and marked to the point that it really needs replacing. There's additional seating downstairs, though I didn't check it out. Service, however, was friendly and accommodating. For both our drinks, y husband asked the barista to add extra syrup which turned out to be a good call. Matcha Rose Latte ($7) with Almond Milk ($1): He noted that the flavors were distinct initially, but after stirring, it looked like strawberry chocolate milk. Unfortunately, it didn't taste much like a matcha rose latte--the almond milk overpowered the other flavors. The matcha seemed low-quality, as it was dark green with a coarse texture. The rose syrup, which has a dark red color, didn't quite have that true rose taste. Lavender Latte ($6.65) with Oat Milk ($1): The lavender layer was baby blue rather than the expected light purple, which made me double-check if I had the right drink. Such a cute, trendy cafe located on Newbury Street. They are mostly known for their desserts, which are made fresh daily in-house. Their desserts rotate regularly and I always get to try a few new ones. During peak hours, it can get very crowded here, and it may be difficult to find seating. I've tried their drinks but they are a bit expensive and were alright. However, they have the cutest pastries that you cannot miss out on. They come out super photogenic, and the craziest part is that they taste as good as they look! I've tried a good amount of their desserts by now, and I have to say that Rose is my all-time favorite. I also really love Love and Green Apple. Geometric Apple is a popular one made for those chocolate lovers! One is usually not enough for me because they are too delicious. Sometimes they will sell out of certain items if it's busy, so it's better to go earlier in the day. We tried taking the dessert to-go before, but it didn't taste the same. I'm failing to understand the hype about this place. We visited from out of town based on reviews and were disappointed with our entire experience. Jonquils Cafe seems more about the "aesthetic" than the coffee or pastries. Speaking of pastries, I don't know if I would call this place a bakery. Sure, they had some desserts, but the lack of variety was shocking. We paid $13 for a cute Instagram-able apple that looked better than it tasted. We spent over $20 for two coffees and one dessert and left hungry. The coffee was nothing to write home about. As a matter of fact, the iced coffee was pretty bad. They also only have one "regular" size and don't offer a large. Lastly, the place is cute inside, but you can't enjoy it because of its limited indoor space. We got lucky and were able to snatch a table outside. It was also dirty -- the tables were not clean, and the bathroom was filthy. I wouldn't go back here when I'm back in Boston. read more

The Iced Rose Latte was 1) super pretty, 2) the espresso was fresh since the coffee is roasted in-house, and 3) the bitterness of the espresso meshed well with the sweet, floral elements of the rose and creaminess of the drink overall. Really enjoyed it! The Geometric Apple has got to be one of the most unique desserts I've ever had. I was afraid it would be gimicky and not have good flavor but I'm so happy I was wrong. The cheesecake mousse was soft, sweet, and lush. I'm not big on apple desserts but the apple compote and caramel paired well together and were nicely balanced. The chocolate sponge cake tasted good but could've been softer and more moist. All in all, it was absolutely worth having on my itinerary. If I'm back in Boston, I would definitely try their other dessert/drink options. Highly recommend checking them out and supporting this small business! read more

When I saw the leaf and the apple dessert on Yelp, it was an immediate, ' I HAVE to have that', feeling. So I bribed the person coming from Boston with my special customized spinach ravioli with sautéed vegetables for bringing this dessert in exchange ;) Was it worth it ?! Well, I got to see up close how a celebrity dessert looks, but then I found out it had gelatin, and I am allergic to that, so, my partner got to eat everything- my special dinner and the most exclusive desserts, I got cheated !!! Booo hoo :( The cafe is in an upscale neighborhood ( not surprising), it was perfect weather for that perfect dessert. I was told that the guy who packed it warned against taking it on the flight as it was mousse and it could either melt, or go the opposite way and harden depending on the temperature it is exposed to as against the controlled environment within the cafe. We got the to-go in any case. The cold flight temperature and the short distance home had helped retain the shape but it also hardened a bit, nevertheless it was still sooo unique- a combination of mousse, apple stuffing and a little bit of cake hidden inside- absolutely worth the $10 per dessert ! " Jus sooo good !" was the reaction of those of us who actually got to relish it. Maybe another celebrity chef will make a celebrity dessert which even I can eat too. I can only speak to the drinks here, since we didn't try any of the desserts or pastries. We got the Spanish Lattes, which I recommend. It was just the right level of sweet, with it not being too sweet, but just enough to have the drink taste good. Other than the Spanish Latte, some other of the speciality flavors included a Rose Latte and a Lavender Latte. The inside of the store has a very clean aesthetic, and there is some seating available. I came to Jonquils Cafe Bakery on a Friday afternoon. It was not super packed inside. I had just arrived in Boston and was looking for something to jolt me awake from my early morning flight into the city. Luckily, my friend and I did not have to wait long to order or for our drinks to be made. The Matcha Rose Latte that I ordered came out beautiful. The pink and the green were perfectly separated before I mixed my drink. The drink was sweet, but not overly sweet. It was definitely well made. We sat downstairs where it was more private and there were more seating options. I had the cran jewel which was absolutely delicious (especially if you love pistachio and fruit) and the peanut butter banana was pretty good too. The chocolate croissant was delicious and fresh. I'm not a coffee drinker but I am a sucker for lavender so I decided to try the lavender latte (decaf) and it was really good! My friend's been wanting to try here, but hasn't really gotten the chance to catch them before they sell out of everything. We decided to test our luck and thankfully there were still pastries in stock. We opted for the geometric apple and this ginger pear pastry. The seating arrangement in this cafe is a bit tricky and takes a little bit to maneuver around, but there's more seating downstairs. The store itself is pretty narrow so it gets pretty cramped, but we managed to snag a small table between the two of us. They played the desserts on this plate with dividers, so you didn't have to carry around two plates for two desserts. I thought that was a little convenient detailing in how they serve. As for the pastries: GEOMETRIC APPLE: This one was beautiful to look at, but I didn't think the flavors meshed too well in this. There was caramel mousse wrapped around a thick spoonful of apple compote rested on a chocolate sponge. In theory these flavors should complement each other well, like a caramel apple. Maybe the flavors were too spiced for me, but I felt like it was a lot going on. GINGER PEAR: The ginger pear, on the other hand, was a soothing flavor especially in the winter time! There was pear compote on top of a vanilla base wrapped with a layer of ginger mousse. The ginger mousse wasn't too strong, very smooth and just paired really well with the pear. The flavors altogether made it a very delicious winter appropriate dessert. The cafe was cute and the pastries showed amazing craftsmanship. There are a lot of options to choose from and it seems like they rotate their menus out seasonally, so you'll never get bored. read more

This place gets a lot of attention on invisible, unfortunately the hype didn't live to expectation for me. The cakes look beautiful but flavor wise fell flat for me. I ordered asymmetrical apple (5/10)- it looked beautiful but taste was too sweet and average. A lot of apple pie flavor with very little caramel hints. The mango pineapple cake was better (7.5/10) - still sweet for me but the tropic notes cut the sugar. It's not worth the price in my opinion. The service is excellent. The place has good ambiance for the photos but it's small so only few folks can get the best seats and it's also a bit worn, only good for photos. read more

Went very early with my boyfriend and we had a very nice time in this place! The food was amazing, we tried three different desserts which had a very nice presentation: the geometric apple tasted sooo good like apple cheesecake, the pink flower tasted like whipped cream and strawberry, and the beautiful leave tasted like banana. The service was amazing, the barista was the only person working during that day but he was very nice with us, he even spoke Spanish to us since we needed some help with deciding about our order since it was sour first time here. I admit I was lured in my all the pictures that have been floating around social media, but I was a bit disappointed by my visit. I tried the Apple Caramel, which does look gorgeous in person, and supposedly had an interesting combination of flavors (apple confit, soft caramel, cream cheese, caramel cream, crunch, chocolate sponge), but the taste was very muted and there was no "crunch" whatsover. My aunt and I went here while walking down Newbury street for a quick treat! I found this on TikTok and it was also recommended to me through a coworker who visited earlier this summer. I got the purple Mango/Vanilla Mousse "cake" and it was really good! I had no idea what the flavor profiles would be here, I didn't think it would be anything fruity based on what they look like, so I was pleasantly surprised! The service was decent. There are a few areas to sit, but the space is great. If you plan to study here, it may not be the right spot unless you grab a seat early. I got the lavender latte and I loved it. It does have a strong lavender flavor though so be mindful of that if you don't like that sort of thing. On to the dessert, I got the geometric apple which is the most popular one. It was beautifully made. It's essentially a cheesecake with apple filling and then a chocolate cake like bottom. Not too sweet, I was able to finish one on my own. Staff are very warm and welcoming. In terms of aesthetics of the dessert and concept, it's really pretty and fun. Definitely a cute photo. But for the price I paid ($9.25 per) I think the flavors and overall dessert was lacking. Stumbled upon me this pretty cafe after shopping. I ordered my matcha and it was really good and they have some lovely displays. For a place that wasn't that busy the chairs were disgustingly stained and the tables were not wiped down at all...they were filthy. I had to put paper napkins to sit on the chairs and on the tables. The staff would pick up the dishes but no one actually wipe the tables. We just got over the pandemic you think they learn something but they didn't. This should be top-notch cafe considering the location. I used to live in the area so if this was here 15 years ago I would have come here as a go to place but I guess it doesn't matter if they don't keep high standards. Jonquils is a cute cafe & bakery located on 135 Newbury Street in Copley. The bakery specializes in geometric shaped cakes made with 3-D printed molds. Not surprising for the owner who was a former architect turned pastry chef. Grab your favorite drink and a specially designed sponge cake. There is plenty of seating by the stairs or lower level. In my opinion, the best seating is by the stairs leading to the lower level. The lower level is located where the cafe's restroom is and it gets a lot of foot traffic not just from patrons but also people walking through Newberry Street. The hot matcha rose latte is my favorite drink order. I have yet to try the iced version but I am sure it's a beauty with the green color from the matcha and the pink for the rose milk.
