Our favourite was the rose (strawberry) among the three pastries we have tried! The rose featured a nice crunchy out layer and soft and creamy inside that full of flavor and it was surprisingly very good though the presentation was okay. We got the passionate love (passion fruit chocolate) and it was very tart to the point we could not finish it. The coconut pineapple did not stand out to us as well. Overall, I'd say their pastries are inconsistent with quality in regards to presentation and flavors. Their lavender lemonade was super carbonated and it was nothing special as well. This place has limited seating and we had to stand in a corner at a table to finish our pastries. The interior felt like a regular bakery shop which I expected it to be fancier given the aesthetics of their pastry. This is self-service where you order at the front, they will hand you your pastries in cheap paper plates and find your own seats. Overall, my experience was okay but I came later in the afternoon where most of the good pastries were sold out. The pastries are all gorgeous but pretty expensive ($10 for one). Some pastries definitely looked better than they tasted (aka the Tulip). The Twisted Love and Apple Caramel were much better. Their latte drinks are okay, instead I'd recommend their Flora Tea. The Flora Tea was beautiful and had a refreshing, delicate herbal flavor. You should also plan on dining for a short time because people will hover your table (which really ruins the experience). Beautiful desserts are my Achilles' heel. I cannot walk by a work of art and not want to eat it, which made my long-awaited visit to Jonquils all the more heartbreaking when I realized every single one of their desserts had some kind of tree nut in it. We did pick up a Tropical Sphere and Geometric Apple ($9.25 each) and while I could not eat it, I was told the apple dessert was the better one, with a moussey cheesecake finish that was similar to that of the gateau nuage at Lady M. Props to the desserts being halal-friendly as well! All gelatin used are derived from fish. The cafe is situated on the lower level of a Newbury St storefront and was quite busy. We went on two separate occasions because of how amazing this bakery is. I'd highly recommend the yellow cake that is lime and coconut. We also got the purple one which is a fruitier cake which was good but not as good as the yellow cake. The desserts are super unique with a delicate shell with a unique texture and cake filling. So this place was on my must go to list because they make 3D printed desserts, pretty cool right? I would have to say for my first experience I left feeling a bit disappointed. To be fair we visited near the end of the day and they were sold out of most of their desserts, they literally only had 2 flavors left. The one we chose was a banana peanut butter dessert and it was just okay. The girl at the counter really couldn't explain the 3D process and to be fair it was a long line so it probably was just poor timing. Came here with my girlfriends while we were walking around town! I had seen this place on Instagram and saw that it was a very aesthetic café, so I wasn't really expecting much in terms of food and drinks, more so just aesthetic cakes, however this place was a little more than just the aesthetics! My friend got a latte and said it was actually one of the best lattes she's had! I'm not a big coffee drinker though so I didn't try it. The cakes are also very good, although a little expensive. The guava cake was so good and they used pretty fresh tasting guava paste. my friend who is Cuban who eats a lot of guava pastries said that it was pretty good quality! Will definitely come here again with friends to show off some of the beauties and also delicious food that Boston has to offer! One thing that could improve could definitely be the management of the line, and management of the restrooms, and availability of water, cups, and utensils. It would be better to have a self-service station near the service counter so that those waiting for the order don't obstruct the way for those just trying to get utensils or water. This bakery is so cute. The pastry options are all beautiful - each designed to look like what they are supposed to taste like or at least, totally IG worthy! We tried the rose, which had strawberry mousse and a vanilla sponge. It was delicious - cream was smooth and chilled really well, sponge was soft and moist, vanilla pastry cream was fragrant and not overly sweet. It was perfection in a bite! It was pretty small - too much mousse and not enough of the mango filling, in my opinion. While it was pretty, it was not worth it. I was also hoping it would have more cake and less mousse. POUR OVER: COLUMBIAN ROAST - 5.50 Sizable cup of coffee, but too watery for my taste. I really enjoyed the tasting notes though and had considered buying a bag of beans. They also made this pour over using an automatic machine. There's a lot of seating inside and outside (the tables inside were pretty dirty and unclean - doesn't seem like they get cleaned up after a party leaves) with Instagram worthy interior decor. $10 for a small pastry is a bit steep in my opinion, but I can tell a lot of effort was put into each dessert here as the presentation is so pretty and picture-worthy. I ordered a Twisted Pumpkin and even though I finished it in about 5-6 bites, I thought it was delicious. Seeing this place on the list of top 10 most unique desserts in the US made it a must try while I was in Boston. I did really like the concept of the apple and I thought it was a unique take on recreating the flavors of an apple in a dessert. It was definitely the better of the two. The ginger pear was nice and definitely had a unique flavor as well, but I don't think they're the greatest desserts or near the top 10 of the best desserts I've ever had. Came here around 2 pm on a Saturday with a date. We were hoping to try out the beautifully designed desserts, but by then, there were only 3 options to choose from. If you have your eyes set on a certain dessert, you will have to go earlier before things get sold out. We ended up getting the cran-jewel and the Ferrero rocher chocolate ball (forgot the name). Both desserts were very good, the rocher one wasn't too sweet and I liked the mixture of the mouse and crunchy hard shell. The cran-jewel had a cranberry filling but was not too tart. We also ordered two hot oolong tea, perfect for the cold weather, and balanced out the dessert sweetness/tartness nicely. The menu is a bit pricey, but overall, it was a fun experience, and the place is pretty cozy. I especially liked the crunchy bits in the hazelnut cake, and the flavor of the mango passion fruit spheres. They have a high tier selection of coffee too, with great latte art. Aside from espresso, they have Sey pourover with a pour steady machine and a Turkish coffee setup. My only quip is that pourovers are way too pricey. $9 for a single origin pourover is a big turnoff. I personally don't like cakes with a lot of cream. Jonquil's cakes tend to be on the creamful side, I'm guessing because it's easier to mold. They have beautiful outdoor sitting, their main space inside the cafe is beautiful and they have nice ample space downstairs for more seating. We ordered a Spanish latte and a mocha gourmet chocolate as well as a pear confit dessert. Everything was amazing. The Spanish latte did have condensed milk so if you're lactose, don't do it lol. On Sunday afternoon the cafe reported they were completely sold out of all pastries, as well as most teas. The polite staff member told us they had a couple of teas available but that they "had no cups" and we would need to wait for the cups to be washed if we wanted to stay (we wanted to, since it was bitterly cold). How does a cafe manage to run out of cups? We were offered to-go cups which are a MUCH smaller serving yet the same price. The geometric apple dessert was not only wonderful to look at but tasted great as well! The inner layers of chocolate sponge, dark chocolate crunch, caramel, and apple compote paired nicely with the cheesecake mousse exterior. I'm not sure what the outer coating is made of (maybe white chocolate) but it had a nice crunch that elevated the texture of this dessert.
