Almost always I said things were fine, but the one or two times I actually had something I hoped they could address, instead of being gracious about it (and seeing it as a potential opportunity to make some additional revenue), he would get irritated and defensive. After the first few years we never saw Hugo himself any more. His wife and son or other crew members would do the work every week. I asked Ms. Luna about him and she said he hurt his back. Never saw him in person again. All these years we retained their mowing services, they never once: - Suggested any steps or treatment we could take to improve the care and appearance of the lawn. - Never suggested or offered (even for an additional fee), to fertilize; aerate; thatch; overseed; treat for insects; treat for invasive weeds; adjust, fine tune, add to or improve, or even repair broken sprinklers. Not once. And no, I never discouraged or would have discouraged this. I would have been thrilled if they offered and more than happy to pay extra to have them do any of these things. They are the supposed experts after all. But given Hugo's past reactions I never explicitly asked. Sometime in late 2022 or early 2023 we began to notice that they were not coming every week. Now sometimes things happen, and knowing about Hugo's (supposed) health issue, and the fact that his wife does all the actual work - at least for us - we didn't make an issue of this. Missing a week now and then and the lawn getting a bit shaggy is not the end of the world. But things did not return to normal as we thought they would. Still, we let it go. Maybe they're having hard times. Still driving pretty new trucks though. Their attendance slipped to showing up at most every second and often every third week. But we're still paying for weekly service. No explanation. No reaching out in any way. Finally after a year of this - paying for weekly services but getting 1/4th of that, I asked Ms. Luna what was going on. She immediately calls Hugo and hands me the phone. His first words are, "What are you paying?" I answer. "When have we ever raised our rates?" Once. Then he starts in on this tirade about how unfair that is - and literally would not let me get a word in at all, shouting over me every time I tried until I finally got angry and started shouting back. Just to be clear: I *never* gave them any reason to assume I wouldn't be willing to tolerate a rate increase - AND THEY NEVER ASKED (or informed). I mean seriously, am I supposed to make Hugo's business decisions for him? I am well aware of increasing costs and actually was surprised all this time that they hadn't raised their rates. Stopping providing service 75% of the time while still charging the full amount may be in Hugo's mind a form of rate increase, but it is cowardly and dishonest. It is stealing really. I cannot recommend this business.

I got a hold of him and he told me his truck broke down and seeing as how no other landscape company so I let him reschedule. In total he no-called no-showed 3 times. He seems like a nice enough guy but you're better off going with someone that will show up. I am still out the $200 deposit. Live and learn I guess.

Our gardner let us know he could not do the job at the last minute - which is why we reached out to Grassland. Sean was upfront with the costs and let us know what he could do. I had Sal install grass in the front and back yards as well as sprinklers and bushes. We agreed to…read morea one week timeline and the total amount with a 50% deposit $3,000 up front and another 50% upon completion. It started out OK but as the project progressed, Sal requested more money up front which was not what we agreed. We were sympathetic so we wrote a check for $1,600 as requested. At that point, we had already given him 75% of the cost. At some point, he was not being up front about when he was going to be at my house to work on the yard. I had to text him every day to confirm whether or not he was coming. Even after I gave him more money! The sod was delayed and the project was prolonged for a few days. Not a big deal. However, Sal kept asking for more money with no explanation other than he has to pay his trailer. In the end, I paid him for "completing" the job. But it was nowhere near what we discussed. See the inspiration photo attached. You can also see in the photos that the "bushes" he planted were tiny and looked unhealthy. Some of them are dying and one even split in half. Fast forward to a month later, now in April 2023, There are large dry spots in my grass because the sprinklers used were not brand new and they are not covering the entire grass area. I've reached out to Sal to no avail. I'll just have to hire another guy to repair what was installed. I forgot to mention that he wanted to charge me $300 extra for black wood chips for the backyard. SMH I went to Lowe's and I could cover the yard for $100. It's terrible!
