Watch out for Jose Martinez Tree Service Company! Safety is clearly not their top priority, and their operation is extremely unprofessional. Jose's crew failed to set up cones, signs or any barriers to prevent vehicles from parking in areas where tree trimming was actively taking place. They proceeded to cut tree limbs directly over parked vehicles, which resulted in damage to my truck. This is completely unacceptable and unsafe. Even worse, the owner refuses to take responsibility or repair the damage caused by his company's negligence. Be very careful if you see Jose's crew working overhead. They came to trim the trees in my condominium complex. As they cut the trees, they dropped the branches onto my patio without any concern for my expensive flower pots. I stopped them from doing it. When I told them they could break my pots, they said not to worry, they could get me new ones. I refused to let them continue, and they finally helped me move the pots. However, they continued to drop the branches onto the patio carelessly. They broke an outside light and ruined my sliding door screen. I reported them to the HOA management. The HOA tried to contact them, but Martinez never replied. The HOA ended up paying for the light. I paid for a matching one, so my patio would look good. In total, the HOA paid over $90.00 for the light. No one ever paid for the screen. These people have no regard for other people's property. read more

He was very competitively priced. And walked us through the whole process and took all the stress out of a project of this size. You'd be crazy to even think of using any other company. This morning coming out of my house. I saw the company Jose Martinez tree service truck completely blocking our way out. I notice the truck being close to my car. I notice the woods chips have fallen straight onto my cars trunk and windshield. There's a bunch of thin small scratches on the trunk and on the roof. I called the company to let the owner know but instead of finding a resolution to the problem the owner Jose Martinez ask if we want to meet (as if he wanted to fight me) I told him why would he want to meet? They provided terrible service! We hired this company to remove two trees, one of which had very extended roots that had created a lump in front of the house and the roots were extending to the driveway. Jose promised to remove the roots to eliminate the lump. He sent his crew to complete the task, but he never came to supervise them. They removed the trees, and two hours after arriving they left to take their lunch, they came back and did not complete the job arguing that they couldn't remove the lump/roots because they would damage the grass (which I didn't care about). They broke a sprinkler water line (I found out days later) and didn't even care to inform me or repair it. I asked to speak with Jose before the crew left for the day and although Rodrigo (the lead of the crew members) was speaking with him on his cell phone, he didn't allow me to talk with him claiming that Jose would call me later but he never did. I had to hire another company to remove the roots of the tree and fix the sprinkler water line. If I could give them a minus-10 rating I would. Do not hire this company unless you want to be provided with deplorable service. read more

I called a couple tree trimmers. Jose came out quickly, was friendly and spoke great english. I told him what i needed on my single chinese elm, and he gave me an estimate. I thought it was a little high based on what i have paid in the past but i wanted a REALLY good trimming, and showed him a tree next door that had (in my mind a close but too tight a job). He said ok, and the crew arrived the next morning. I dont think any of them spoke english because i tried to tell the "foreman" what i had requested and he kept saying "your the boss" to whatever i said. Unfortunately the tree was given a "regular trim". They did a good job, but it wasnt the close trim i had asked for and thought i paid for. I went inside and came back out and they were gone, along with my check. But they left behind of bunch of small branches on the ground (it was a really windy day so ill give them some leeway on cleanup). They were great when we used them before to cut down our palm tree in Laguna Hills but when we called back for repeat business they never got back to us. I should have yelped these guys first. they suck. didn't listen to any of my instructions. said they'd be there 730am to 8pm. I have to leave for work at 9. they came at 830. I asked them to grind specific stumps. the manager Federico said OK don't worry. I come home at 645 pm to make sure they did everything right. they left at 5. they left a bunch if roots. I asked for a small pile of firewood chopped small. they leave me 4 huge piles. I mean huge. what kind if idiot thinks a 40 inch log will fit in a fireplace. I called to complains. he told me you asked for firewood. I said yes. a small pile. not 4 large. and they're too big. he said he will return to cut them down and grind the stump. he lied and told me the stump was left due to the trees stability. all bs. my uncle said their stump grinder broke down. and my neighbor said their tree shredder truck was too full so they left me all that wood. I took down a huge tree and did a major trim on 2 others. they should've came with 2 trucks. I specified before they came back. cut the logs down to 24 inches max. he said OK. it didn't happen. I still have a huge pile if 36-48 inch logs I cant even move. I have 2 measuring at 6 foot long! they also just cut and let the wood fall. multiple times the large pieces just hit the electrical line. oh yeah. they broke 2 sprinklers lines because they didn't watch where they were grinding. I also have a log just sitting on my roof ready to slide down on me. i went with them since they're liscensed and looks legit. legit business but not legit work. go elsewhere. they're goal is to come get the job partially done then leave. they act very professional to get business but they just rob you. update 7-16-2015. I see the owner responded to rebuddle my review. it doesn't matter if the person at my door couldn't speak English. if you would've kept notes you wouldn't have had to ask again. and either way. I called to complain. your staff returned and still failed. incompetent is all I can say about your workers and the management team. and if you would've stayed until 8 as promised I would've been there to tell their dumb asses how much to leave. ps. it's wood not would. maybe you should update your response to try and save your company some face. read more

I'm not the party that hired Jose Martinez Tree Service to trim our many trees at the Serenity Villa Apartments at Pomona, Ca. I am a tenant here. It has been 3 years since we have had our palms trimmed back and the fronds grew very low on the trees and totally hid my 3rd floor view of the mountains! In two days they had all our trees trimmed way back and looking fresh and daylight now pours into my apartment and once again I have a panoramic view of the San Gabriel mountains. After paying quite a heft price for the removal of ivy roots, I have come to see that they did not remove the roots for a large section of the area I paid for. After telling Jose this, he said he would stop by to see for himself. Needless to say, he didnt come by. After several calls and messages I have left, Jose has continued to ignore and not get back to me. Maybe Jose now has too much business, because its clear that this year he didn't care about my business or my satisfaction. He didn't even return my call for an estimate for over 24 hours, then was an hour and a half late for the appointment. His crew was to have started the next morning, but showed up late in the afternoon on the same day. Although his crew was very polite and professional, it's unreasonable to think they could do a good job in the dark. ...but they finished well after dark. I called Jose while the crew was still on site. We started talking and he said one of the workers was paging him, but he would call me back. Didn't call me back until the next afternoon to ask for a check. I made an appointment for the next morning for him to talk to me about my dissatisfaction and to pick up a check. Again, he showed up an hour and a half late and it was clear that he had no interest in trying to turn me into a satisfied customer. They trimmed two huge trees, & did a massive removal of ivy like vines that had completely taken over 3 condo walls to the ground & the patio windows, dug out a Bougainvillea, cleaned out the flower beds, & pulled out the pervasive growth between the patio pavers. What distinguishes them from the other tree services is they have all the heavy equipment, a truck with a lift cage, an on-site chipper and a truck to haul away the wood chips, all parked in front of my home. They actually came early and cleaned up completely. True professionals and a well-run business. They are licensed and pay workers' comp and have insurance.
