Nice little hidden gem we discovered while in Appleton. I had the falafel, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Husband had the SMALL gyro (see pics). Really curious how big the large is lol. The tzatziki was well done, a bit thicker than I've had in the past but complimented our food very well. Amazing Mediterranean food! The menu is somewhat small, but offers a surprising amount of different options. Many different sauces are offered, and it is very easy to add or remove ingredients from your meal. I would say the staff is friendly and quick from my experiences. Online ordering is offered. The only downside to this restaurant is that it has very limited dining space, especially in the colder months. Someone stopping in for the first time could be turned off by this. read more

My husband and I were in Appleton for an early afternoon dental appointment. We always can agree on what to have when we're traveling away from home for lunch. Gyros!!! Well, looked up on Yelp and what did we see? Josef's on Soldier Square a small hole in the wall right off College Ave in downtown Appleton. What a treat! I ordered the Greek Salad with gyro meat on top. It was cold, crispy, a fresh mix of greens and spinach, accompanied by fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, greek olives, and totally creamy feta cheese chunks. The best this side of Madison thus far. My husband had the gyro sandwich and a piece of baklava. We were thoroughly impressed. Huge portions and delicious food. There's no much room inside to sit, so plan accordingly.

The best in town without a doubt. It's a small place tucked behind the main drag but it is more than worth your time to find it. We eat there almost weekly, and They don't let you leave hungry. I get the Gyro every time evaluate it is made perfectly and he lets you add your own cucumber sauce, the hummus is awesome and the toasted pita is a perfect match. Only gyro shop in 20 Mike's with a chicken gyro option. I loves gyros and this is right up there with Gyros Kabob of Depere.

Ok I grew up eating Gryo's at a place in Oshkosh (Delta Rest.) when it was owned by a greek family. There has been a lack of good places that serve greek food in the Fox Valley, and having recently moved back to Appleton I discovered this awesome little place on College Ave. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. I get the Big Gyro and by itself is HUGE and very filling!! Also the baklava is very good. read more

Delicious gyros and homemade french fries. The pita bread and gyro meat is so good and their tzatziki sauce is great. The small is definitely enough food for 1 person especially if you get fries on the side. The prices are fair and the service was friendly. Josef's is one of the hidden gems of the fox valley. Anytime I've stopped by I've had great food. Don't feel limited to the gyros though as the menu is full of great items. The best part of all though is the friendly service. Even though it's usually a one man show when I stop in the staff and owner takes the time to stop by the table and check in. I love gyros and this is the best place I've found north of Milwaukee for a good gyro. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is calm. Portion sizes are ridiculous, so plan on taking home leftovers or splitting with a friend. I especially love the fresh cilantro on every gyro, it adds a nice little bite. read more

Located in a converted bar in the heart of downtown Appleton, they have great gyros and baklava. The sizes are a little mis leading. The slim is more than enough for most people and the regular is huge! Their customer service is supurb as well. Always helpful and fun. I used to eat lunch here once a week. Visited from out of town. Meh. It's a gyro. The quality was average, and taste unremarkable, but I will give them one thing- the portion was ginormous. More sandwich than I could have eaten in one sitting. The spanakopita was tasty but greasy and could have been either drained better, or wrapped with a more absorbent paper to go. read more

Have been coming here for a couple years, was good before but now it's great! Inside has very nice cafe look to it and patio seating outside. The new owner/chef has definitely stepped it up a notch the gyros are fantastic as well and the delicious seasoned fries! Portion are very big usually split a small gyro with my wife or if I'm feeling really hungry that's more then enough. Will be coming back for more very soon! read more

Best gyros in the valley. I've tried all the others and they do it right here. The small is the perfect lunch size while the regular is more like a two-person meal. The brown the meat and toast pita. The inside is pretty small but the outside tables are really nice on the quiet downtown street. I typically call ahead when I'm in town for work though it doesn't take that long. read more

Awesome gyros! I got the slim gyro with fries and it was filling. The gyro is refreshing with the cucumber sauce. The fries were seasoned just right. Not much seating there. A few tables outside and maybe one inside but that wasn't a problem for me. Wait time was about 5 minutes. Definetly will go back to have more gyros and try other items! read more

PHENOMENAL. I used to just get the small gyro (more than plenty and I can eat a lot) but now I get the Greek Salad with Gyro Meat -- it's like a super-duper gyro since you also get feta and kalamata olives and peperonici and cucumbers. I don't miss the pita and like all the crunchy greens. I only ever call ahead and carry out from Josef's. I LOVE this place, and have brought all my coworkers into the fold, too. read more
