I admit that I have only ventured into three items on the menu; Chicago Dog, Gyro and Falfel. Side items Fries and onion rings. The Chicago dog was great. It had that required snap indicating a perfect cook. Good for them going with the brand name dog. The relish, tomatoes that looked and tasted fresh were wonderful/ The sport peppers were of the level that took me back to a dog shop on McKinley in Chicago. Highly Recommended. The gyro was pretty good. Both times, I failed to ask for the garlic sauce on the side and it was delightfully smothered in sauce. Hawrd to eat by picking up, but very delicious. The Falfel was a surprise but I nice know to the Arab-Americans who settled in the area. It was Falfel Green. The young lady who was taking my ordered whwn I asked her it if was Falfel Red or Green, she didn't have a clue but called the chef over. He responded quickly and was friendly. This is not health food, but it was yummy and a great deal. We tried the broccoli cheddar bites (like broccoli cheese soup flavor but deep fried) and liked those a lot. The fries are salty, the buffalo chicken wrap was thick- did not need a side - and I liked that I could put vanilla flavor in my Diet Pepsi. This is a small, bright diner kind of place, where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The walls are covered with Chicago memorabilia as you might expect. The gent behind the counter was friendly and efficient. The food was very good. I had a Chicago dog, it was exactly what I expected. I had a side of fries, they were hot and fresh and perfectly cooked to my taste. My wife had a gyro, it was heaped with meat, onions and tomatoes, and covered with a healthy portion of tzatziki sauce. It was very good! Customer Service: 9/10 How Fast the food came: 9/10 Quality of the food: 6.4/10 Pricing: Above average Ordered a Gyro combo and an Italian beef combo and it came to $28. I took a trip to Chicago last week and stopped by Johhnies Italian Beef. The difference is night and day between that and the Taste of the Windy City. I think what throws off the Italian beef for the Windy City is the bread. A different type of bread was used in the city. The Gyro was decent, above average. Fries and onion rings were fresh and hot. The portion on the onion rings were kind of sad so be aware when you order them. The service was top notch. 2 gentleman working who spoke with manners and served fast with a decent crowd plus Uber eats orders. I would maybe stop back because my go to spot is Chicago grill more towards downtown Appleton. Will do a review on them soon! read more

Exellent food, I go there for their Gyros and Fries, usually for carry out. If you are looking for eat in, it is a pretty basic restaurant, noting special. The food is excellent. I typically order my Gyros with No Onions, which they get right most of the time. Never had any issues withthe food. I have to have their burgers sometime. Prices are reasonable. read more

Went there and ordered a burger and cheese fries for me and the kids. My daughter's burger had a metal shaving in it and when I told the person at the counter the only thing they said was well I was just cleaning the thing next to the grill. Didn't offer a refund didn't even offer to remake it and just asked if it tasted good. The cheese fries that we ordered was also overcooked and almost burnt. It was honestly the worst service and food ever. I used to love the restaurant, but after this, I'm never going back. read more

I ordered a dry beef sandwich. The Ajou is too salty and I get home and my sandwich is completely soaked. Unable to eat it. Way too much salt and the sandwich is wet extremely wet. Waste of my money. read more

I live nearby, so I'm always trying to find the small places for a quick lunch that aren't Arby's (overpriced these days). So I decided to give this spot a go. The prices are pretty decent. I got the fajita chicken wrap (one of the pricier options) and made it a meal with onion rings. For the price, not bad. The wrap came out nice and hot, as did the onion rings. I didn't feel like there was any skimping on ingredients. It felt like there was something missing from the wrap flavor wise, but I couldn't lay a finger on it. It was served with salsa and sour cream on the side (for dipping?). I gave these a small try but felt they took away from the rest of the wrap. They also have a neat Pepsi machine that lets you flavor shot your drink (I guess I either usually frequent coke locations or am drinking water). While I wasn't "wow-ed", it was overall a solid experience and I will most likely be back at some point. read more

Very nice people, the Italian beef was very good. We also got the gyro and the meat was good but the pita was dry and tough. We had to eat it open face and I could barley cut it. The pita is a main ingredient in a gyro and in chicago it would never be dry and tough. Gotta do better, it ruins the gyro. read more

So I ordered from them the first time a few days ago because when I was doing an order pick up for another person I noticed they make breaded mushrooms!!! I love breaded mushrooms and can not find a place in Appleton that has them well they do and they nailed them, they are so good and probably the best I have had so far. The cheese curds where good but not great and the Chicago dog I had was good but not great, the fried rocked also soooo good. Will definitely order again but try something that's not a hotdog. read more

Stopped here on the 4th of July to satisfy a summer hot dog craving. The gentleman who took our order was outstanding in terms of customer service and making us feel like royalty. He even checked on us midway through our meal to hear our reviews. At a hot dog joint! This is a hot dog joint but the dogs are expertly prepared, with fresh buns and the best condiments. I had a Chicago style dog - top shelf. The husband had a Cicero dog with melted cheese and caramelized onions. He gave it a 10 and it looked and smelled amazing. The fries on the side were hot, crisp and salty. It's hard to get excited about a hot dog, and some are just plain awful (like the overpriced sorta warm dogs on stale buns at Lambeau) but, I'm telling you, these Windy City dogs are perfection. The place is clean, the staff is very friendly, even when they're working on a holiday, and the food is more than worth the very reasonable prices. First time here, but definitely not the last!! We're from the Kewaunee area, but will come back often. The food is amazing! I had the Gyro (which was gigantic) and my husband had the authentic Chicago dogs. The fries were great, too. So happy we found this place! We do love Chicago dogs!! Bad Bad Bad! I got a chili dog, a Chicago dog, and a hot beef. All bad! The hot beef was pretty much inedible, greasy and overdone, the au jus was a cup of grease. The Chicago dog was cold and was equipped hard bun. This place was out of French fries and the soda was terrible. I got mozzarella sticks which were ok at best. Eat somewhere else! I'm from the Chicago area. I worked at an Italian beef place in Elgin. This does not have Chicago style Italian beef. Meat was too thick and small pieces. Italian beef is thin slices with a savory juice. I asked for sweet peppers and got little chunks of green pepper that looked like they were grilled on a flat top. French fries were not completely cooked. Half of them were raw. Blech! read more

As advertised, this place really does capture the flavor of Chicago dog and burger joints. Good Chicago dogs are hard to find north of Chi-town, so I was thrilled when I found out about Taste of the Windy City. Favorites on the menu: Chicago Dog, Gyro, and the Gyro Burger (bring your appetite for that one, it's a beast!). Unlike many other small chains, food quality is consistent between both locations so I gave them both the same review. Good stuff! read more

Nothing special. In all fairness,I should try the gyro meat because it got decent reviews. I might go back for that but definitely NOT for the Italian beef or the cheese fries.
