Through the years, I've had several bad experiences with dealer mechanics, so I began using independent shops, and found one I was very happy with I used for many years. With the purchase of my gently used car, it was some time before I needed a mechanic for any reason. But when at last I did, much to my sadness, I discovered my trusty mechanic had retired. I was really glad to have the help of Yelp in finding a similar replacement, and that's how I located Joseph Auto. His reviews were superior! I had a rear brake job that a shop near my home had given me an exorbitant quote on. So reading that I just needed to come by, I did and was quite happy with his price. He completed the job in a reasonable time while I waited. That was about a month ago, and in the mean time, I knew I had to make a decision about my car. The '05 Hyundai was coming up on it's 10th anniversary, but the thought of paying thousands of dollars for a new car was a serious downer!! I was sure my fading A/C needed a new compressor, but in all the years of ownership, this was the only major problem I had ever had. I had not done much more than regular oil changes and standard tire and battery replacements. So, this all being true, I decided to investigate what else I would need to do and what the cost would be to bring it up to good running condition and hopefully keep it for many more years since it had been the best car I had ever owned! I went by Joseph Auto and told him of my plans, and compared his thoughts with what I had researched on Hyundai's website. We were pretty much in agreement, and I was happy with his price quote. To make a long story a little shorter, the work needing to be done was broken into 2 visits---there was about a 2 wk break between jobs (my choice), and I was comped a loaner car both times. This was definately a plus!! Upon completion of the second visit, Joseph informed me he had underestimated the time required to do all that was necessary, but he was going to be true to his word (there was not a formal written price quote) and not charge any additional collection. Needless to say, I couldn't have been more pleased!! The a/c of my old car has no freon. I want to have a retrofit done on it such that it can use the newer and more efficient R134a freon. I called Joseph Auto Service, described the problem with what I wanted, and asked for a guote. A lady put me on hold, obviously went asking someone for help. We started a bumpy conversation after she came back: She said, "Why do you want to have a retrofit done? " I thought they should have known better than I do. I explained that I want to use the newer R134a freon. She said, "Why ? In order to make use of the new freon, you will need to replace the compressor. If the compressor is good, it is a waste of money." I know that to retrofit a car a/c you don't need to replace the compressor. I don't think she's lying 'cos obviously she has no idea what she's talking about. She insisted that I should just keep using the older R12 freon. I asked: "Since the a/c has a leakage, you suggested that I should just have the leakage fixed so I can keep using the old R12, right? How much will that cost" She paused for a second, sighed, and said, "NO! I told you, just find where the problem is and have it fixed !!" HUH? Isn't that the same thing that I told her ? I wanna make sure that she said that because they need to check where it leaks before deciding the cost, "So ... you are saying that you don't know where the leakage is so you can't give me a quote, right?" She again paused for a second and said, "NO! why on earth do you want the whole system changed? I told you already, don't need to do that!" HHUUHH ?????????????? Are we on the same phone line here ? I saw no way of communication so I said thanks and hang up. I have no idea how they keep the business going. Not only the knowledge but also the attitude and basic communication skill are poor. And the conversation was carried out in Mandarin, a language we both are (obviously) fluent with. I can't imagine how it will go with someone speaks any other language. I am not sure if the "one-star" rating I am giving to this store is fair to judge their auto service skills, 'cos I didn't have a chance to get that far. read more

I got into an accident. Searched for a body shop that had a free loaner car. Joseph's does so I came here. Now, the area is in a sketchy part of town and the shop is one of those classic hole-in-the-wall, family run shops. I was admittedly having regrets as I pulled into the parking lot. However, Joseph, the owner, made me feel welcome and at ease. He said he'd work with the insurance company on payment and not to worry, he'd have it fixed. I dropped it off on a Wednesday and got it back on Tuesday (mainly because he had to wait until an insurance adjuster came out, etc). The work was very solid. Replaced a fender, headlight, bumper, and grille. My 2014 Dodge Avenger looked as good as new. I do want to say that the loaner cars they have are absolute clunkers (dirty, radio doesn't work, stained, smelly)...I was kind of embarrassed to be seen driving around in it. But that's why it's free to drive while they're working on your car. It did get me from point A to point B in those 6 days though. read more

First of all, I do my research before I go anywhere....that being said... Joseph Auto Service has gained my respect and my business. In a world where integrity and honesty is in short supply, Joseph offers both! My beloved Silver Bullet ( you know you name your cars too!) decided to just die on me. I couldn't figure out what was wrong and after a week and a half of sitting in the parking lot, I started losing hope. Now, I love my car and was NOT ready to loose her in the depths of the Swamp of Sadness. So, I pulled up my trusty Yelp website and began my search for a car shop that wouldn't cost me my first born. After 45 minutes( and a lot of reading reviews) I came across this gem! I called the shop and Joseph himself answered. He let me know he doesn't have a towing service but if I can get the car to him, he can take a look. That wasn't an issue since I can rent a tow dolly for $49 from Uhaul. I got SB to the shop and he was very nice and very attentive. He simply asked I leave her there overnight and he will call me the next day when she is ready. (Confident..yes!) Next morning around 10 am I was called to come pick up my baby! I was in shock how quickly they were able to locate the issue and get it resolved. The best part..cost well under $200. No lie! I told him I found him on Yelp and he thanked me for my business. I asked for some extra business cards so I could pass his info along to my co workers and friends. One thing I respect is a job done well and done right. That's all it takes for my loyalty. Even my check engine sensor was fixed, and I didn't even ask! Joseph is going to be my forever mechanic. Fair price ( not cheap) and the car was repaired. Came home and did not have a new problem. Seems like other mechanics look for other expensive problems or make a new one so you can come back. Not Joseph. His place is immaculate, his service swift, and prices reasonable. I am just leaving Joseph Auto Service and I am amazed. My air conditioner was not working so I took my car to Mr. Joseph and waited for some time. He gave me the keys and told me it was fixed. I asked how much it would cost he said don't worry it was only a loose conncetion. Such an honest person. I am so glad I found an excellent place where I can fix any problems in my car in the future. On a road trip to Houston, my 1990 4 Runner died. Not a full death, but what was obviously the death of its alternator. Being Easter weekend, I had a hard time finding a place open, but it was urgent that I return to Dallas. Luckily for me, when I called, the eponymous Joseph answered the phone and did state that they could replace an alternator, but that I should come by right away. Joseph's business is clearly a family business. And finding Joseph is easy. His name is on his shirt and he definitely is moving and shaking to keep his employees on task. He gave me an immediate and very reasonable estimate. I sat in his waiting area, which, for purposes of what a difference experience, was fantastic. First, the not insignificant (what I could only deduce is a) Mandarin language library, and the comfy couches, but all of it apportioned with interesting tidbits of Joseph and his background, art work and the yummiest donuts (and by yummy, I mean, it is clear that Joseph does not skip on treating his customers to much more than above average donuts). Joseph was extremely attentive and friendly; As the only non Asian there for the three hours (two of it, btw, was just for the delivery of the part for a 1990 car), I continually discerned instances of "Ni Hao" and "Xie Xie." The easy conclusion is that Joseph's shop is about much more than reasonableness, quickness and accuracy in its services. read more
