This is a fun space, with an eclectic collection of new and vintage treasures (from a variety of vendors). There are refurbished furniture items, art, jewelry, books, and many house accents. I always enjoy exploring this store when I find myself downtown and believe it's one of the best parts of the area. Overheard the owner speaking to a woman as she was purchasing something. She was so rude. no respect for the people keeping her shop open. Was not a great experience. Indeed a very fun shop to browse around in and the cafe is a lovely spot to sit ( the staff is wonderful) and absolutely order a warmed in-house made ham and cheese scone! also somehow a giant chocolate chunk macaroon made it in the bag as well! I truly enjoy walking around this wonderful shop. It looks small from the outside but when you walk in here, there is so many hidden treasures that you will probably spend almost 2 hours walking around if you are just seeing if something calls to you ! Everything is very organized and has its own cute little section. They also preview artists in the areas jewelry as well as craftsmanship (candles, oils, necklaces, earrings, signs, bandanas etc ) I always go there for my themed jewelry meaning for Valentine's Day St. Patrick's Day Christmas and so on they have the cutest earrings. ! I found the best 1920s necklace there that only cost $20 and I was shocked since it was stunning and beautiful. You will always find some thing meaningful here. Everything is well cared for and well-maintained. Enjoy the hunt in finding something that will make your home complete . Service :100% they are always willing to help and walk around if they see you have to many items they are such sweeties and bring it to the counter to start your go home pile! Josephine's is a fun place to explore, especially if you're seeking a unique gift or something locally crafted to showcase in your home. It's a good mix of vintage, new, and artsy as each space is individually-owned, so you really have a wide-variety to choose from. What I really liked was the locally made clothing and cards repping the town and state. It's a great souvenir if it's your first time or good for someone that's missing the creature comforts of their hometown. Things change on the regular and when we came during the Halloween season, there was a good amount of old-timey decorations, props, and other spooky items on display. So definitely worth a stop in every few months to see what's new. It's a giant space, so give yourself some time to browse. And if you get tired/snackish, there's a cafe on site too! Lots to see in the area, so whether it's your start or finish, this store should absolutely be on your route when exploring downtown Port Orchard. read more

I've been to Port Orchard a couple of times but never went into this fascinating store. There's old, repurposed and new from furniture to lights to clothes. Had a fun time walking through the whole place looking at all the merchandise. Unfortunately there was a door I wanted to buy but it was for display only. I guess it was a lucky thing because I don't think it would have been able to fit in my car LOL. Employees were extremely nice, walking around the store asking if everything was okay and if I needed any help. Presentation of the Mercantile is absolutely lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to browse. You'll want to go to once you look at the pictures in this post. Reasonably priced as well with an awesome bakery in the back featuring homemade goodies. read more

My niece loves the antique carousel. It's so cute, she probably rode it 8-10 times in a row. I got a necklace, it says 'shine bright,' and features a lightbulb. God, I love a cheesy pun. My sister bought a constellation puzzle, a children's 'beauty and the beast' book, a feng shui book. Lattes, mmm. Molasses cookies, double mmmmmm. My mother got us a sandwich to share, egg salad. It was good, too. I liked their use of sunflower seeds in it. Great customer service, too. Enjoyable place to browse. read more

Josephine's (and its sister store Revival) and it's owner, employees and curators are very welcoming and inviting! The store is part of my walking route with my dog, Snickers so we wander in quite regularly. They welcome us every time we come in and regularly ask if there's anything we need or looking for in particular. One of the curators even asked me to message her and she could make me something she didn't have. And another offered to order more of what she didn't. I've even gained some friendships while in the store that I know I'll cherish for a lifetime! Oh, and Farmer Rosie, what a treat! All her pastries are to die for and when you're in also get the Wood Shed sandwich, oh so good! She even sells the fig spread that's on the sandwich there in her cafe. There's always something new in Josephine's to find. And while you're in and you see me and sweet GWP Snickers, say Hi! The old yellow building at 701 Bay Street in downtown Port Orchard sat vacant for much of the winter, with the windows papered off and "Good Things to Come" written on the masking paper. When it finally opened a few weeks ago, my wife and I were astounded at what they had done with the place. My first thought was "shabby chic". But then "antiques". As I wandered around, more themes emerged: home decor, interesting geeky stuff, local artisan pieces... It really is a fun mix of all of the above, without being over-the-top in any one area. Most any interests can be met as you wander in and around this large retail space, whether you're just looking for a gift or that perfect piece of local art or unusual antique gizmo. We recently moved to Port Orchard, and for my work I regularly take the Foot Ferry over to Bremerton, then onto the Kaleeta "big ferry" to downtown Seattle where I then Uber to meetings and such. So one of the first things that caught my eye were the pictures I posted with this review - a local photographer's artistically altered photographs of the Carlisle II foot ferry and the big ferry as well, each for only $35 which I thought was really reasonable. We stop in every time we're downtown, just to see what's new. There's always new inventory, and it's very well arranged. But it can get crowded! Some Saturdays, the place is packed - which I think is a good thing. It's nice to see support for local stores, selling local art and products. Very nice shop - if you're looking to accessorize your home with a little bit of flair while visiting Port Orchard, Josephine's IMO would be a great place to start. read more

This looked like a quaint store with some new merchandise, and also booths people rent to sell their antiques. Being new to Port Orchard, I initially thought it was going to be a fave, but alas, that was short lived. I purchased an antique item as a Christmas gift and found out it was not something the intended recipient would like, and so I wanted to return the item. To my shock, I was told they do not give refunds and I could NOT return my purchase. Apparently there is some tiny print on the bottom of their receipt stating this, (the receipt you get AFTER purchase) but was never told this at time of purchase. I asked if I return for store credit, and was told they don't do that because there are so many different vendors. I asked if they would inquire to the vendor from whom I purchased, and was told they would check with her and get back to me. I never heard back. I called and inquired again, but no response. So I'm out $75 and stuck with a unique antique sitting in a box in my garage. The moral of my story: Buyer Beware. You can't ever take anything back from this place. Not my idea of a good business strategy and They lost me as a customer for good! Bummer experience and a waste of my money! read more
